Im liking the matte black idea.. was watching someshow last nite about a guy who rebuilds busted up muscle cars then resells them at auctions ... had a wicked blue with flat black strips.. was called a SMC for supermusclecar and is out of corona, Ca. only caught part of it. im going to try to find pics of it later.

funny thing about that yard... i mowed that damn thing with a push mower for 5 years.. then when i left to go into the military.. dad suddenly found the money to buy a riding lawntractor... imagine that.. LOL

damn... thats what i was going to say.. 280zforce's gauges are really nice. -
Here's a few pics of my 68 camaro that im working on tandem with my z's.. not that my z's will ever be done though =0) Its a 68 with a RS front end.. 327 4speed. has the RS back seat that folds down with carpet on the back ..dont have the match luggage though. this is SO NOT a numbers matching car. Learned most of my bodyworking on my ZX when i painted it so this is my next project so i can sell it and put the money into my other Z. sigh.. too many cars, not enough money. it is kinda funny though.. the oldest running car i have is my 77z and it has the least milage.. as soon as i tag and get my camaro running it will be the oldest and with the least milage... something wrong there i think lol Im thinking of painting the 68 yellow with black strips cause it will look sharp and the lighter colors will hide the flaws better. any thoughts??? Anyone with photoshopping skills feel free to color it out =) maybe it will give me some ideas. Some pics right before primering.. The drivers door was caved in most of the length and my Dad did most of the work.. old fart is pretty good. the back lower fender right behind the rear wheel was rotted through so i tacked up some mild sheet metel from the window valance of a z to it lol so i guess there is some hybridZ in it =0) was about 107 in that damn garage when we finally finished spraying the primer. The holes in the deck lid are for the originally tailpiece. had a shock when i took it off though. the camaro badging was gone and the HOLES were still there with out the rubber grommets that go in it.. that explains the water in the trunk lol My first attempt at welding was taking a 110 wire feed welder and filling in the holes and grinding them smooth.. i think im liking the wirefeed once i get the feel of speed and temp to what im working with.

Hmmm like it a lot better once the nissan vinyl was put on.. its a bit ricey but the work this guy put in on it is worth a clap or two. love the front except ofr that bumper thingy lol looks like its european though.. km speedo .. maybe some oneoff kit. and I love those black steel wheels also.. now if he had some black accents to go with it... and lose the wing lol
-
yeah... would like a better pic of the hood for sure.. and i love those rims lol i had a set but ofcourse they were bent like every other set ive found of those. wonder where his exhaust exits from though?? looks great. more pics please.

You might also consider that a lot of the guys who are running wider rims are also running flares... something to think about. the zx does have a more pronounced fender lip then the z does so it might work out ok. if you know anyone local who is running aftermarket rims you might ask if you can see how they fit.. even if its off a z and not a zx. most z guys are more the happy to help. expecially with the dreaded aftermarket Z rim drama!

whoops... meant 30ish.. not 3ish good catch.
-
oh and Veritech is right ....NO WAY those Scion wheels are -3. they have to be more like +3ish like most front wheel drive toyotas are... which is what it is. and it would be spendy to redip nd repair them anyways.

Hey Ben...have any pics of your 79 up??? Thats the same model year i have and i have'nt run into very many 79s... ton of 82s but the first year seems to be hard to find in good condition. pics of mine are in the link below.

unfortunately.. he's right.. =( most people at shops give a quote straight from a time estimate book on the car.. and while this is usually an hour maybe 2 job.. on a older z with someone unfamiliar with it.. its a pain. when i first bought my z, it had a horrible exhaust leak so i took it to midas. not only did they break a stud, but lost one of my heat shields (there are 2 not 1 as i found out) on the underside of the intake. This is one of the fewr eally big gripes i have with the disign of the car is the intake and exhaust sharing studs and bolts. i did it the next time on my own and now that ive done it once Katman is right.. only takes about an hour. and the reason i did it again.. blown gasket on my Monza header .. if its free and you dont mind the extra heat/noise and can fab up the rest of the exhasut.. sure why not.. but you might consider waiting until you can get a better built header. Or make sure the exhaust from the header back is the proper size that will fit up with the minumum effort to the next header you buy. =)

When building a SHOP car...... what to do/what not to do
phantaz replied to a topic in Miscellaneous Tech
I think im going to have to sign on the bandwagon here, definately keep it clean!! Flashy bling cars grab your attention then lose it just as quick... there is something about a really clean, well put together car that just speak volumes about the owner/builder... One of my favorites Z's ive ever seen was sitting in a parking lot at a car show lol its was silver with black bolt on fender flares.. thats it. no spoiler, side skirts or even an airdam! the badging was gone, sidemarkers flushed window trim was blackout out and windows were very lightly tinted. It wasnt a monster road racer, street race car or dark and mean looking... instead it was like looking at silk in car form. Just smooth and tasteful. Just one of those moments when you see a car and say "yep" thats what i want. =) I think i took more pics of that car in the parking lot than i did at the whole car show! i really like the idea of a modern power plant in the z with efi and turbo.. that shows your up with todays tech.. and something like triple's in the roadster shows your enthusiasm, and respect for the old school ways that started all this in the first place =) -
looks great.... definately a stand out.. great job. and yea more pictures please =0)

thank god im not the only one.. LOL i have the orange 3350 with awd and body kit , but i modified the motor with the lithium battery upgrades and better chip contoller to keep it cool... lol damn thing will hit 40mph in about 3 secs LOL and yeah... so hooked... =) -
looks like a hybrid boxer engine to me..
-
i have a 79 zx with the auto in it and the only rare thing ive found about them is finding a rebuild kit or someone who will rebuild it with out charging you a few grand... if its a daily driver and your in the city... no biggie.. want to modify it.. go manual. that being said, want to sell the auto tranny?? =0) i need a second one to try my hand at rebuilding one.

yep good selling point to me was "person of limited talent can paint with it ". LOL only place ive found it for sell around here was OKC and i picked up some of the semi metalic blue for a gas tank on my friends Harley... he painted it and i did the fenders .. if you use this stuff.... do EXACTely what it says on the website about the base coats or it will ... bleed through horribly. only problem is they dont have a waterbased clear coat yet so you have to use a normal one which kinda defeats the ozone friendly aspect of garage painting. but damn does it dry nice.

i was going to say it looked like a 944...even had the mesh wheels... i liked teh back but the front... not so much. as for aftermarket headlights.. i would save my money and go for round HIDs instead of trying to modify/fabricate something else but thats just me =)
