  1. So about a week ago my car started to have issues when it got up to temp. It would originally start, idle, and run fine, but after the car began to get warm it would lean out like crazy (have a wideband installed) and there would be no response when throttle was applied under load. It did this for a few days until it decided to completely die on my way home from the gym. After a few minutes the car would start and idle lean on the side of the road, but then die immediately with any throttle (not under load). The engine is from a 1983 280zx turbo. After a little bit of research I'm wondering if it is my Crank Angle Sensor in my distributor, but I'm still very confused. I don't think it's a wet Throttle Position Sensor because I had that problem recently and I removed it/dried it out and the car ran fine. Also the symptoms are different due to not even idling rather than failing at 2000rpm. Short video with symptoms: https://streamable.com/nn9ls
  2. Oh! Sorry skipped my mind. 77 280z, 83zx turbo motor swap.
  3. Sorry I didn't follow this. I was looking in the FSM, but was having difficulty finding the testing procedure .
  4. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to test my fuel pump relay with a multimeter? I was driving last night and my car started sputtering and running really lean and eventually just died. It would start and idle choppy until i pressed on the gas killing it. This morning when I went to go call a tow I noticed that it now only starts and immediately dies afterwards even with a jump.
  5. SOLVED!! Was a wet Throttle Position Sensor (or valve). Removed it and ran compressed air through the opening and now the motor runs fine.

  7. Sorry should of clarified that. Its running very lean. I believe you're right about it being the ignition system. My distributor cap and rotor are less than 3 years old so I wouldn't think that would be a problem. When I parked it yesterday it ran normally. It rained overnight and the problem seemingly came out of nowhere. I'll check the cap and rotor now.
  8. Cross post from troubleshooting Hello, I went to drive my car to the gym this morning I it is running horribly. Yesterday it ran perfectly fine, built boost seemed normal. It starts normally, but then starts to get slightly choppy and when I rev it it wont go past 2k rpm and is sputtering and popping all over. I have a wideband 02 sensor installed and when I start to rev the engine, the gauge goes crazy and reads its maximum (- - -). I disconnected the 02 gauge last night when trying to mount it a different location, but I thought that had nothing to do with the engine since I'm running a stock 83 engine and management system. (Previous owner was about to megasquirt, but sold it before finishing). I disconnected this connection and tried to rev the engine and seemed to be running early identical to when it was connected (barely at all at rpm): https://imgur.com/a/q7at5 Small Streamable link (44 sec): https://streamable.com/nzztz

  10. Thanks I downloaded a few I'll read up on it. I believe everything is plugged since the car runs fine and there seems to be many areas plugged with bolts.
  11. Hello, I recently got my car running this past week after it was in hibernation for over a year. I bought the car in 2014 and never took the time to learn much about what I had. I was hoping someone could help me figure out what has been done to my engine. To my knowledge the motor and computer is from an '83 zx turbo. Also I told by another user that my valve cover breather hose is causing a major vaccum leak. What should I do? This album is from a previous post, but it has a few good pictures of the engine bay and motor. http://imgur.com/a/4uGkb
  12. Thanks JSM for the link to the service manuals. Downloading now.
  13. Wow, I really wasn't expecting such a thorough response! Thanks a million ZHoob2004. I'm going to start tackling the quicker issues tomorrow. Hopefully I'll find out if I need to purchase anything by Sunday. I'll definitely be asking more questions across the forum. That breather hose did confuse me, I'll going to figure out a fix ASAP.
  14. (Not sure where to post this) I cross posted this to members projects as well. Hello, Was browsing multiple forums and decided to try out Hybridz for advice. I bought a 1977 280z Frankenstein of a car with an '83 280zx turbo engine swap in 2014 for around five grand. I drove it around for a year or so and it died on me after removing the previous owners sound system. Life got in the way and the car had a parasitic draw and sat for around 15 months. I just brought it to a shop and had the fuel system flushed with new filters, however, got robbed on the price in my opinion. I did some general maintenance (oil, spark plugs, coolant) and have been driving it around for the past week. The car is far from stock and I was hoping some of you guys could help me by identifying what I have. Any help is much appreciated! Below is a numbered imgur album. Sorry it is alot of pictures. My knowledge is weak and I know I need to find a service manual, but I don't know where to start. Its pretty fast when the turbo kicks in, I believe its running around 12 pounds of boost if the gauge is accurate. Definitely kicks your head back. http://imgur.com/a/4uGkb
