Now to see... I Bought the cheap crappy RFID alarm for 30 bucks. I'll let you know what I think of it... if it's too horrible, heck, I'll play with the RFID and relays and have some project fun. (I can think of a few fun pranks) That alarm, plus two cheap lock actuators and I have prox keyless entry for 40 bucks, cheap/fun project at minimum.

Interesting... Looks funky to me personally, but interesting none-the-less.

Love the vortex generators on the roof!

ZCC - Custom Tail Project (Rear Spoiler)
TheMission replied to palauoriginal's topic in Body Kits & Paint
I'm definitely liking the development, please do your best to keep us informed and up to date, as I'm fully planning on running this when it's available... BTW - Got the ZCC tow brackets on! - Lovin' them... now just need to lock down who makes the best FG bumpers (if only you made them!), as they are on my short list as well. AZcarbum, I know your affinity for rarer items and not recreating what's out there, but your attention to detail and dislike for releasing wavy or poorly made FG items is appreciated. -
Your "Flasher" could be going out as well... Heck, it's lasted quite a long time if it's original. The stock wiring of the signals is a bit of a pain, but it's not too complicated (get's a little weird with the hazard switch involved, but they ground out near each light, so if your having the issue both left and right, it leans me away from grounds. If it's the same both directions, I'd say it's more likely to be a flasher/switch issue.

ZCC - Custom Tail Project (Rear Spoiler)
TheMission replied to palauoriginal's topic in Body Kits & Paint
I wish the "updates" and "Pics" came as soon as they said they would... I sent a message down ZCC way to let them know if they'd need a good close source that I'd be game to post pics the day I got the piece if they would be game. Nothing drives me more crazy than waiting for updates that never come, especially when they post tomorrow and weeks go by! Like the tail a lot, as well as some of the other ZCC products (Got their tow brackets) I agree with some of the comments regarding how it looks from directly behind, but it's a solidly nice piece. -
I've used Raammat on show cars and other rides for sound deadoning and it's cheaper than Dynamat by far, while being just as good or better performing. It's heavy though, so if weight is a concern, the paint on stuff is ok enough. I still think the mat products are better in the end though, but Dynamat is way, way overpriced. http://www.raamaudio.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=60&vmcchk=1&Itemid=60

What I'd do... make a new one. Make a new hole... drill away and then go to a local pick and pull and find a grommet to fit in it. Cheap, effective, and easy.

Headroom with seats mounted low and a roll bar
TheMission replied to proxlamus©'s topic in Interior
If you don't like your brain... full roll cage without a helmet... Generally, Most people aren't likely to hit metal portions of a door in a medium impact, but put a bar right near your head travel and get a minor sideswipe and kiss your brain goodbye. (You'd also be surprised at how far you REALLY move in a collision) - I don't know how low you'd have to mount the seats, but then you're looking at hitting the lower door frame with your head, which would probably hurt a bit too. I've never met a person of any reasonable knowledge in the racing world that would ever suggest a street car with a full cage and not wearing a helmet... way, way too much risk, especially compared to the "possible" benefit of a full cage... Why a full cage? It seems to be significant overkill for any street ride and although it'd look nifty, the risks of it, plus the cash/time of making it "somewhat" safer seem to not be really worth it. -
Man, if they are willing to hack the RFID chip to get your car, it's the least of your worries... Break a window, hotwire the thing and drive away. Much less work. (that's why fuel pump switches and such are better to worry about putting in and go with cheaper RFID options)
-
Like the seats and such, but am a stickler for details... I'll probably take the same chance on fiberglass seats. Hurts to see those seats surrounded by bare sound deadening... and a nice cap with the aluminum panel in the middle... Are you planning on finishing up the interior and covering the aluminum to have a clean interior with the seats?

Wired the Molex Connectors Up! Here's my first attempt at auto upholstery... turned out decent enough... My Hands are all glued up now...
-
Some more to finish the day - The Wiring Harness was too short and it makes more sense to have the connectors near the firewall, so TADA! The Vent Assemblies for the kick panels on the sides got all recleaned up and niftified: Same for the License Plate Lights:

Got some decent progress done today... All Windows are in her now, as well as almost all the door hardware, except the outside handles, due to paint waiting. Wiper Motor and Assembly Back in... Back Panels Fitted and Temporarily back on Wiring Harness Tentatively Mounted - Where I want it to be. Taurus Fan All Cleaned Up and Testing, Running like the monster it is. Bit by bit it's coming together

Thanks! This last week got some decent progress done on it: Put the ZCC Tow Brackets on - Cause they are dang sweet looking - Check out ZCCjdm.com All Seals are In Door Window Frames and C-Pillar Windows are In Tails are Re-Wired with Modern Molex Connectors and back on Cut and set up new D&P side kick panels and dogleg panels from new material - Upholstering it later Steering Shaft and Pedal Box is back on I've finally figured out all the wiring for: Turn Signal Switch Headlight and Wiper Switch Full Wiper Motor Rebuild and Wiring and Relay Setup (Which is a Pain) All the EZ-Wiring Harness I'll probably post some of the schematics I ended up with, as the wiring was fun to figure out and it's helpful to add another reference to the mess of wires and how the assemblies work. Picked Up: Taurus Fan - Rebuilt and Cleaned/Tested that monster of a fan Next steps are full rewiring, replacing all the old connectors with modern molex setups, which will take a chunk of time. Interior Rebuild and Re-Upholstery Then it's flocking time! - Dash and all upper interior trim will be flocked to match ultrasuede Headliner and such. The Engine will be purchased soon and mounted on a stand and I'll share my experiences there with a moderate rebuild there, as I'll replace seals like mad, and repaint and accessorize the SR20DET well. I'll pop some pics over the weekend as I finish up the tail section a bit.

Thanks! Just be patient and it'll come together. The Z is way more forgiving than the other cars I've built/worked on myself. (I love the mechanical and electrical simplicity of 70's rides). I'm just a normal guy who works on this thing... I don't like to let shops do the work for me and I really love to get my hands dirty and be able to wrap my mind around how these 240s are built, plus save money in the process. I'm now working on the wiring for it, as I've got a new Ez-Wiring kit to go into it cleanly and it's an adventure to figure out all the wiring for the turns/brake, but even more so for the wiper motor, as it's like pulling teeth to get a good guide on how that whole wiper system works (wire wise) in a '72... I'll have it down packed soon though no problem. The seals are almost all in now, but I solely need to get the seals on the bottom of the doors on. The C-Pillar windows are now in, but I still need to get the window frames back on the doors and get the windows, regulators, and hardware back in. I really like little things on the car, so I get distracted with all the fun stuff to do. Friday is a big swap meet here in PDX, so I'll see if there is anything cool to pick up there for fun as well, and then work on the car on Friday and Saturday Morning. The internet is abounding with information about these cars, so it's actually pretty easy to find out most issues I run into, as almost always someone else has hit it and posted the solution on the forums.

Here's some pics as it's moved from paint back to being slowly put back together... don't worry about the wheels/tires... they are going away. Shaved front sidemarkers, Shaved Z Logos on Fender, Shaved door locks - Shaved Fuel Door, Shaved C-Pillar Logos/Holes, Shaved Sidemarkers This pic is the closest to the real color. - Shaved Hatch Logo Shaved Antenna, Shaved Side Marker, Shaved Door Lock, Shaved C-Pillar Logo Closer pic Quick Engine Bay Shave - Not Perfect, but I didn't care... just wanted it "Cleaner" Nice and Smooth Roof - It got bumped around in the past

Howdy all... I've been lurking in the background watching posts for over a year now, and finally get to show off some of my fun work. I've done everything myself (and friend) so far, with no shop involvement. Mostly, cause I'm cheap, but generally, cause I love to do it. It's now ready to be put together and set up, with new wiring harness, new seals, etc... and will not be a full resto or show car, but a fun weekend street/sport ride to play around with. Here's some crappy iPhone pics of it at my friend's house, who painted it... final color is Laguna Seca Blue (BMW M3)... which looks way better in real life that the iphone can do it justice with. So Far we've done the following body wise: Taken it down to the frame/shell Shaved the door locks (going keyless entry) Shaved the 240z emblems everywhere Shaved the Side Markers Shaved the Antenna Shaved the Fuel Door Shaved the Engine Bay Removed the Fuel Tank Cut out the Spare Tire Area / Reinstalled a New Floor Installed a Fuel Cell New Driver/Passenger Floors New DogLegs Driver/Passenger Installed Roll Bar De-Rusted EVERYTHING All New Urethane Bushings on EVERYTHING, Repainted all the suspension components Reconditioned the Dash Here's what the color really looks like in sunlight: Here's some shots of the special work I've done so far:

Anyone use the McKinney Motorsports SR20 mounts?
TheMission replied to mattyice's topic in Nissan 4 Cyl Forum
Naga... Thanks for the link with the pics... That set of pics (very clear on trans mount and mount location) and the other posts lead me toward McKenney as well... Blakt Out's recommendation means a lot as well, as he's done more on his Z than I could imagine... -
Did you seal off the top of your fuel cell area? And if you did how did you run your vent and return lines. I have the same tank and set up as yours but to be NHRA certified my tank cant be open to the inside of the car and the vent lines can not penetrate the inside floor area. Just wondering how your got around that. Thanks.....
