  1. 80LT1, A company named Pured Choice Motorsports sells adapters that will attach directly to the feed and return lines that are already on your rails which convert them to male -6 AN fittings. I just bought a set and they are very good quality. Price was $34.95 I think. I bought a bunch of other things from them at the same time so I don't remember the exact price.   2. PHaTTy, You're right about the cookies. The HybridZ one appears to contain links into the SQL database that track our prifile information? At least thats what it looks like to me although thats just a guess. The Nuke one might contain a date time stamp but they aren't formatted so it would take some experimentation to figure out what the entries are for. Thanks for the cookie names. I think I'll leave them alone unless I can get the specifications for what they contain. I totally understand if you aren't willing to provide that info, might cause some security issues. Bastaad525, You probably aren't breaking the rear tire(s) loose when on a roll because the increase in torque at the onset of boost isn't enough at the rear wheels to overcome the traction at that point. When you look at your dyno graphs do you see a very large increase in torque over a very short RPM range? If not then the torque is applied to the rear wheels gradually enough that they don't accelerate fast enough to exceed their traction. I hope this helps. I thought of another item you'll want to address if you make a cam change. You might need to upgrade your valve springs. If you use a high lift cam it might exceed to lift allowed by the stock ones and at higher RPMs you'll be dealing with valve float. In fact you might be experiencing float now at the higher RPMs. I know SBCs start seeing it around 5500-6000 RPM mostly because of lifter pump-up, but weak springs will contribute to it as well, not sure when a L28 starts to have problems with this.   4. PHaTTy, Can you tell us which cookie it is that saves the last login date so we can delete or modifiy it. I have experienced this same problem many times and it's VERY frustrating.   5. Bastaad525, What Jon was saying about the cam is right. You don't want a lot of overlap with a turbo or you just blow your air/fuel charge out through the exhaust port. What you want is a high lift cam with less overlap and then port your intake and exhaust systems to increase the flow rate. One mis-conception people fall into is that a turbo will cure a poorly designed intake, but the mixture still must flow through the system and restrictions still slow it down and cause turbulence even when it's under pressure rather than vacuum. It shouldn't move your power band up, but it should broaden it toward the high end. Your power is dropping on the high end because the flow rate reaches a maximum. Ported intake, head, high lift cam and larger exhaust should increase the maximum flow rate there-by making more power at high rpm and the turbo should offset the lowend charge velocity decrease once it's spooled up. I hope this makes sense and if you see any glaring errors in my logic please let me know, I'm not an expert in this but it seems to make sense to me. I think a cam with low overlap, high lift and possibly a small increase in duration would probably be your best bet. Wheelman
  6. Setting aside the frame/unibody strength issues you'll have a lot of fun trying to control that combination. The boat /trailer combo weighs as much as the car. If you run into any wind or aren't very aware of just how fast you're approaching a corner it will get very exciting very quickly. I tow an ~3000 pound tent trailer with my GMC Safari van and the rearend gets pushed around quite a bit by the trailer, I can't image what that would do to a Z. Your biggest issue will be keeping enough traction to the ground to control the trailer. Wheelman

    Lt1 rear end?

    The answer depends on what you plan to do with the car. If you intend on drag racing and getting into the 10 second or faster range then you will have to switch to a solid axle rearend. If you are going for a milder setup or road racing then you can switch your R180 differential to an LSD or swap it out for an R200. Do you have the JTR (jagsthatrun.com) Datsun swap manual? If not then get it. If you have it there is information in it regarding an adapter that can be used to mate a GM drive shaft to a Datsun differential. Use the search feature of the site, you'll be amazed at the depth of information at your finger tips. Wheelman
  8. I'm getting ready to purchase fuel line to feed the LT1 and I'm a little over whelmed by all the options. I'm replacing all the lines and have already purchased a Walbro GSL392 pump so that much is determined but I don't want to spend a fortune on the stainless braided stuff. I've almost decided to use Earl's Super Stock line with appropriate hose ends but have no experience with it. What do you guys think? Do any of you have experience with the Super Stock hose and fittings? The other option I'm considering is 3/8 aluminum tube with appropriate adapters so I can connect to the pump, filter and sump on my tank which has male -6 AN fittings. This setup requires more adapters and I still need to use some flexible line for parts of it. Also does the Walbro pump need to be mounted below the tank outlet or will it pull a siphon on it's own?   9. I don't know what year the switch from 10mm to 12mm for the ring gear bolts happened but I do know that the first year of the 280Z got the R200 when the car had a manual transmission (1975). None of the cars with automatics had the R200. Do a search on this topic and you're certain to find a table that lists when each diff was available in each model of car. Wheelman
  10. drftn280zx2+2, The statement in the earlier post was that it takes DEEP pockets to get high HP numbers from an L28 NA motor where an L28ET is relatively cheap and easy to get decent HP numbers from. Wheelman
  11. I don't think you'd need a custom bell housing to mate a T-5 to the 351. As for a T-5 from a Mustang, make sure it's a World Class T-5 otherwise it won't last very long. The World Class units are supposed to be rated to handle 300ft/lbs of torque in a Stang sized car so should be able to handle a little more in the Z. You'll find that you either need to use a hydraulic throwout bearing or build a custom slave cylinder setup as most Mustangs used a cable clutch setup rather than hydraulic. I remember seeing a setup on here at one point when I was researching for a 5.0 swap but don't remember who did it. Terry(Blueovalz) or Al Silveria(alsil) would probably be a good place to start looking. Not really sure what else you might run into so just ask lots of questions as you go. If I remember correctly most of the problems have been solved at one point so searching should turn up answers to most of them. Biggies are: Oil pan sump location, hood clearance and header availability. Wheelman
  12. I have 2 comments regarding this setup in a Z. 1. It looks goofy to me, not cool and I don't think its a good solution for the price!! 2. Where are you going to route the piping for the exhaust and intake under a Z? The only place I can think of is to run the exhuast down one side of the tunnel and the intake up the other side. This means that unless you shield the intake it will be heated by the exhaust pipe which effective reduces the efficiency even more. Running those 2 relatively large pipes in the tunnel will also make it a major pain to do any work on the tranny and/or drive shaft (u-joints anyone?). I also don't see where you'll place the turbo in the rear, there isn't room between the diff and the tank like it's mounted in the camaro to say nothing about the nightmare of routing the exhaust and intake tubing back there. Maybe remove the spare tire well and put it there? Another thing about the exhuast and intake routing, the intake will be forced to cross at least one side of the exhaust piping to get into the engine bay, another spot where heat will be transfered to the intake charge. I guess you could say I don't think it would be a good fit in a Z regardless of it's design merits or lack there of. Wheelman
  13. DatsunLover, If that 240 has an LSD R180 then you don't need to swap it for an R200. The weak point is the spider gears. The LSD should have 4 where the non-LSD would have 2. If it's a non-LSD it should also be a 3.39 gear ratio rather than 3.54. If the R200 from the 280ZX has a 3.90 ratio you will definitely want an AOD tranny in the future or even swap in a T-5 or T-56. The only things I saw missing from your list of items was the shifter, which you mentioned in a later post and upgraded fuel tank and lines. If you put it in the 280 you should already have a baffled tank but the 240 will not. You might need to upgrade the feed and return lines to larger size to feed to 351W. The stock feed line size is 5/16",not sure what the return size in the 280 is but the 240 just has vapor return lines which are definitely to small. I'm swapping in an LT1 which is similar in size to the 351 and I'm using 3/8" feed and return and have added a baffled sump to my tank. The LT1 has a 5/16" return from the fuel rail so the 3/8" will be a little bigger than I need but I don't want to go to the extra effort to buy 2 different line sizes and they are both the same price. I wouldn't use a holley pump either, get the Walbro GSL392. It's a good high pressure pump that will flow enough fuel for your engine. Edit: Went back and re-read the thread. If you put the R200 into the 71 240 you'll need a new mustache bar, front and rear transverse link mounts and front diff mount. The early 240s had the diff mounted more forward than the later ones so you'll need to replace several of the pieces. Do a search on the internet or look in the JTR manual for a more definitive list of parts you'll need to replace. I'd also consider converting to 300ZX Turbo CV axles. It's relatively in-expensive and makes the rear end stronger. Wheelman

  15. My wife googled the school and got the phone number for the principle's office. When she called the secretary said they had received many calls regarding the news story. My wife got the principle's email address and sent a message requesting an explaination from him and the school board. Apparently the secretary told my wife that the news story only showed one side and that the school board would explain the entire situation. Yeah right!!! Anyway, how many of you guys would like me to post the principle's email on here or PM it to them so they can express their "concern" to that school's administration? What about the explaination from the school board, should I post that when/if we receive it? Wheelman
  16. Moridin, What He's trying to say shouldn't need interpretation, he should just say it. I heard him say the war was a mistake, pretty tough to re-interpret that, then that the soldiers were not dieing for a mistake, pretty hard to interpret that as something else also. What it boils down to is that he wants to have it both ways because he has no convictions of his own. Can't say the war was justified and had to be done cause then he'll lose the "anti-war" vote and can't say people are dieing for a mistake because then he'll lose everybody else, definition: flip-flopping spineless goobber!!! If he has any real convictions about anything I have yet to hear them. All I've heard so far is how Bush is wrong and his plans (whatever they are) are so much better. If he would answer a stinking question with a real answer I might change my opinion of him but I'm not gonna hold my breath for that. My guess is he won't tell us what his real plans are unless he's elected because it would scare the hell out all thinking Americans and he would lose for sure. Wheelman
  17. I've ridden since I was 12. Not consistently the whole time but enough to have some experience. I have to say that if it's your first bike get a 600 or 750 and learn to ride it then step up to a larger one if you still want to. You'd be surprised how fast a Kawasaki Ninja 600 is. The key I found is to be very defensive when you ride. As several people have already stated, you have to watch out for the other guy because they won't be watching for you, unless they're a rider themselves. I also think that most motorcycle accidents are the fault of the rider, at least all mine were. I've only had one bad accident and didn't really get hurt all that badly, but my bike burned up. I lost some skin and have a bit of a bum knee now, but it was because I got cocky and was going way to fast for the road. Easy to do on a bike, especially the superbikes that are built these days. I ended up getting another bike after that one but my riding style changed dramatically which prevented more accidents. I've since sold the bike and now have no desire to get another, to many goobbers on the roads these days, or maybe I just notice them more as I get older. One last piece of advice, get a good set of leathers and always wear them no matter how hot it is. When I had my bad accident I was wearing bluejeans, a t-shirt, tennis shoes and a full-face helmet. Lost all the skin off the inside and back of my right arm and the heels of both hands plus various other scrapes and scratches on my torsoe. I jumped off the bike onto the assphault as it went down and then it went over a hill and through some trees. Saved my life bailing off but if I'd been wearing my leathers I would've only been sore not scarred up. Wheelman

Hey GreenSamo, If Kerry isn't a flip-flopper then how come he kept repeating "The war in Iraq is a mistake." and then when asked point blank during the debate if he thought our soldiers were dieing for a mistake answered "No". Either it's a mistake or not, can't have it both ways. Thats just one example from the debate itself where he contradicted himself!!! ZDMZ, Dude, Do a little research on what these guys stand for. Basing important decisions like this on emotions (gut feeling) is how we elect such goobbers as Ted Kennedy, Diane Feinstein and Slick Willy himself. We all need to take our right and responsibility of voting seriously and make sure we know who and what we're voting for. We have the ability to affect our government and the responsibility to each other to make sure we do the best we can. As I said before I thought the "debate" was pathetic. I wanted some real answers to important questions and all I saw was political maneuvering from Bush and self contradiction and BS from Kerry. Pathetic, just Pathetic. Maybe I'm just expecting to much from our elected leaders. Unfortunately I do think these debates are watched and can make a difference in peoples minds, especially those that haven't totally decided. Wheelman
  20. I thought the whole thing was pathetic, just pathetic!! Kerry did his usually self-contradictions which is what I expected but Bush was horrible. President Bush looked and acted like he was totally somewhere else in his head. If I was him I would fire whoever gave him advise about what to concentrate on during the debate. Kerry flip-flops so much we don't need Bush to remind us. He also looked very un-prepared with long pauses trying to figure out what to say and then when he got going the response was under-whelming to say the least. Kerry came off "looking and sounding" more professional but he is conflicted with himself and I still don't know what his plans are for dealing with Iraq even though he was asked point blank to outline them for us. It's a good thing the measure of a man isn't how well he does in a debate or this country would be in big trouble. I will vote for President Bush because I believe his policies regarding the war on terror are correct but he definitely leaves a lot to be desired when the whole package is examined.   21. If you're running something like an LT1 then you don't absolutely have to slot the mounts but it does allow you to position other aspects of the install where you want them. When I first test fit my LT1 I hadn't slotted the mounts and everything seemed to fit good except that the shifter was a little further forward than I wanted it and to far to the left. So I slotted my mounts and was able to move the engine around until I had everyhting right where I wanted them. For the amount of work is to slot them it's worth the effort. Use a dremel, a file or a bur in an angle grinder. I used a wheel on my angle grinder and it took more material than I wanted. Wheelman
  22. Kevin, You got the bit about the funds being removed from the money supply exactly wrong. The interest, if paid to the lending institution along with the principle actually expands the money supply and is the direct cause of inflation. Do some research on "fractional reserve banking" and you'll see how it works. Now if the loan is defaulted and not paid back along with the interest, then the money supply shrinks and it has a much larger impact than your example. Another thing to remember Kevin is not to confuse the number of printed bills with the money supply. They are very different values. The number of printed bills represents a small fraction of the actual dollars in circulation as most is transfered through electronic means. Wheelman
  23. Pop, You're exactly right, just because the tax system is reformed doesn't mean the government will be fiscally responsible. I was just proposing that a flat consumption tax and elimination of the income tax has the potential to bring more money into the government coffers without hammering us as much. If it was set up to not tax food and basic utilities then the poor would get the break they need. You also made a vary good point about defining what is and isn't taxable. Here's an example from our current tax code. My salary is taxed at about 18% after deductions each year but when you add in the medicare and social security taxes it works out closer to 45%. If was to quit my job and live off of my stock investments (stocks and options trading) all my profits are considered capital gains which is taxed at 20%. So I would be ahead to pay the capital gains and evade the medicare and social security portions. Unfortunately for me I'm not at that point yet. This is just one of the methods used by people who know what they're doing to avoid paying more taxes than they have to. There are lots of other ways as well, but if Iwas to go into that this post would get very long. Freedom, I know you didn't actually call all of us stupid but that was the general impression that came from the post, at least to me anyway. There are no easy answers to this debate. The American people (all of us) have become to used to being bribed into voting for a given party or politician for things to be easily changed. Unfortunately it's going to take a decision on all of our parts to make some hard choices and do what must be done so we don't saddle our children and grand-children with our problems. I don't know exactly what the changes are but I do know we won't like most of them and the longer we wait to tkae care of things the harder it will be. Wheelman
