  1. THANKS for post but I have to tell you that the engine install pic. was taken at ADV. DYNO's shop in SUISUN, CA. Sorry, I wish it was my garage also!!! Just a note but my 75 280Z was bought on e-bay and I had it transported to CA. from the great state of TEXAS out of ABILENE,TX. LARRY
  2. Just placed my order!!!! Looking forward to it.... ...LARRY
  3. You can toss the charcoal filter also !!!! 2004 in CA. 1975 and back are smog exempt. 75 280Z and older..... YES ....LARRY
  4. I love this topic and couldn't have stated it better...... A little history--- purchased my 75 280Z on e-bay for $5200 from TEXAS and had it transported to FAIRFIELD,CA. It had a tired sbc V-8 in it but I thought let's do something differant and add a blower and pro formance up grades...$3500. Let's add an alum. radiator and electric fan and dyno it. The engine gave out on the dyno run so let's put a real- build engine in and while we're at it rebuild the tranny and beef it up. So while the engine is out , let's clean the engine compartment up, redo the brakes, put a new steering rack in, increase the sway bar size, add some new guages on the outside and the inside, put new bushings in, add a new rear fuel pump and run new lines, add an adj. fuel regulator, change to MSD 6BTM system, add a mini starter and a custom strut bar!!! With some other odds and ends this added up to $14,000. I'm not crying and these are just the facts Another fact is I had 2 new AFRs sent back that didn't work, a wrongly factory wired MSD unit, and an electric fan wired wrong. Just because it's new doesn't guarantee any thing. Quality has slipped everywhere!!!! My 2 cents.......... LARRY
  5. My suggestion is to pull the radio center console out again and buy a can of silicon spray and hit the areas that could touch the dash or center console and hit the screw holes, make sure you wipe those areas of excess. I would do this first before pulling the dash which I've done on my 80 280ZX. This involves pulling the steering wheel, and if you have to completely pull it the labeling of vacum lines, wire and plug connections, plus the air flow interconnectig pipes is a smart thing to do!!!! I did this to to replace a leaking heater core and replaced all hoses while the dash was out. I hope that was the last time that's needed!! ..........LARRY
  6. For what it's worth, I listen to my sidepipes singing, my blower joining in on cue , and the fuel pump as back-up to this music humming from a low to high pitch or even at times silence. This has been going on for a year now!!!! On the other hand the radio.......... forget it!!!! .......LARRY
  7. Might check a couple of these tips out..... http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/zbody.html LARRY
  8. First of all it's smart to have more than one operating car, I don't care what the engine is in your main car!! I have 4 Z'S but let's address your question about the 350 sbc reliability. In my 75 280Z I installed a HOLLEY 144 blower with a 700 cmf HOLLEY carb built for superchargers. Of course I have an electric fan, alum. radiator, and larger water pump. I drive this car every day when it is not raining . Sure I had initial issues, but correct.... matched parts and detailed engine build is an important key to any high proformance engine. I expect this car to be running good for years to come with proper care!!!! LARRY
  9. This tip for V-8 cooling on the GEORGIA Z CLUB site for V-8 cooling is interesting...http://www.georgiazclub.com/tips/ztech/v8cooling.htm LARRY
  10. {moderator Edit}---This is for mature audiences---{/moderator Edit} Move your cursor over the image...... http://mirrored.flabber.nl/boob.cursor/ LARRY
  11. On the site click " GALLERY " and in the Welcome To The Classic Z Club Photo Gallery's search box type in " Cuong Nguyen " , the cars owner. The power steering rack is on page 10. Hope this helps!! LARRY
  12. When I read the orginal post I was thinking the same thing Just my 2 cents LARRY
  13. Great looking ride My COCKATIELS were responding to your soundtrack when I played the video......... LARRY
  14. The JAN. Z of the month car, on the Classic Zcar Club site, has a featured 73 240Z with a RB26DETT GTR engine out of a R32 that looks awesome!!!!! http://www.classiczcars.com/ LARRY
  15. Check out the JAN. car of the month on the Classic Zcar Club site. It's a 73 240Z with a RB26DETT in it. He's using the SUBARU WRX power steering rack!!!!!!!! http://www.classiczcars.com/ LARRY
  16. Hi, All right then..... we'll be seeing you all there with a group from the FAIRFIELD area if the creek don't rise!!!!!! LARRY
  17. Hi, Since I'm retired I am avalible to meet almost anytime to show anyone the car and share some stories and info!!! Send me an e-mail and we'll hook up LARRY
  18. Hi, although I have the HOLLEY 144 blower on my 350 sbc, let me share a few findings on my set-up. I used the HOLLEY dp 700 cfm supercharger carb: therefore make sure you have a strong fuel pump and a engine mounted fuel regulator. I used a K/N extrem top air flow filter. This left me with 1/2" clearance under my 5" hood scoop. If you want a strut brace it needs to be custom fitted due to the blower snout height. I suggest an aluminum radiator and electric fan. Due to running hot at freeway speeds, I changed to a Edelbrock Victor series alum. water pump because under boost conditions the engine converts air/fuel mixture into heat at a greater rate than stock. The blower increases cylinder pressure so do not run under 20psi oil pressure at idle. I would perform a compression or leak down test before installation. I reccommend the MSD 6BTM ignition set-up and final tuning on a dyno. If your compression ratio is 9.5 you are at the high limit for these blowers. My ratio is 8.5 and with 6lbs. of boost it has a effective comp. ratio of 12.0. They reccomend not to exceed 12.1 eff. comp. ratio.( 9.5 with 4lbs. of boost is 12.1) The following guages you should have: RPM, OIL PRESSURE, TEMP., FUEL PRESSURE, BOOST PRESSURE, FUEL, and AMP. Just some thoughts. LARRY
  19. Here is my 2 cents worth on overheating problems. In addition to the other replies and older posts, I had a heating problem with my 350 sbc/ HOLLEY blower. My fix was to change to a Edelbrock Victor series aluminum water pump. It has a 3/4" ball/roller bearing that withstands higher torsional loads at high rpm, larger cast-iron impeller that produces max. flow rates for greater pressure and volume, and its pump produces more coolant flow at a higher velocity. I think when you downshift to 4 the higher RPM is increasing your coolant flow therefore lowering your temp. I run at 192 degrees on the freeway and 210 at lights or long stops. The engine performs great at these temps. I had a smaller water pump before and can identify with your freeway figures. I hope this can add some info to a running hot problem. LARRY
  20. Hi, Thanks for your comments. No, I'm leaving the 80 280ZX stock. I'm currently restoring my 72 240Z to original condition as much as that's possible!! My 74 260Z is next up after that and that is where I'll do some thing drive train wise again, I just haven't decided what. 2 0ut of 4 stock Z,sss is enough don't you think?????? LARRY
  21. Placed an interior shot of my 80 280ZX of the redone interior in my Personal Gallery. The door panels, steering wheel, under dash panels, glove box, dash panels, center console, sun visors, all front and rear trim pieces were purchased on e-bay from a guy in PENN. who found the car in a building where it had sat since being totaled with 8,000 miles on it back in 1980. The car sat there for over 20 years and my car now has a new car smell inside it!!!! The seats are from a 82 280ZX, leather and suede with 280ZX running through them, from a guy in SOCAL who had someone wreck their car in front of his house and sold him the seats on the spot. All emblems, fasteners, and carpeting are new from e-bay buying. I guess that's why I like e-bay LARRY
  22. http://www.semproducts.com/sempages/semcolorcoat.html Use this link!!!!! LARRY
  23. Hi, it seems like the older the Z then there are more things that can cause exhaust fume smells inside of the car. On mine, replacing the rear hatch glass seal fixed the problem. Use the search function here and type in ,fumes, and in the forum use Chevy V8Z Tech Board and read the posts. In search type, dye, and in forum use Body Kits& Paint and read all the links posted in the posts. You mention salted roads so lift the carpets front and back for rust damage in the metal under them, which can be a real problem!!!! LARRY
