  1. got my exhaust all mocked up and welded today. I cannibalized my old twice pipe set up to make the new exhaust. So far i happy with the way the car is sounding however i need to figure out a way to raise my exhaust up a lil higher as i only have 2" of road clearance at the resonator. I bought a cheap flux core welder from Harbor freight and welded the exhaust up. Its my first time welding and it shows but hell its just some exhaust pipe.
  2. Ok got the glass sanded down and put the first layer of body filler. I think i put a lil too much body filler on but guess i'll just use the DA to sand it down nice and smooth.
  3. Got my drive shaft shortened and balanced and changes the flange yoke (neapcor 2-2-899-1) to match my R200 4.11 diff. Work was done by Drive shaft Inc. here in Tulsa and cost me $147.
  4. Progress on the chin splitter has been impeded by the V8 swap that I’m doing concurrently. I was able to get a few minutes yesterday to cut the foam to shape and do an initial glass. I'll try and get it sanded down abd ready for body filler tonight or this weekend.
  5. Have not deccided exactly how i am going to hold the slitter in place yet. I know I'll need a bit more support than the urethane air-dam will provide. Maybe i can use a set of L-brackets mounted off the stock horn location. I thought about that but then decided to foam it and try for a more level/integrated look then the raised look i would have gotten by glassing over the cardboard. I'm not using the foam as a structural member; it is there to provide a shape for the fiberglass. It should work well for its intended purpose.
  6. used some old pizza boxes to form a base for the foam...
  7. Decided to extend the splitter and extra 4" on each side. Next step is the foam the gaps between the section before fiberglass application.
  8. Ok so i have decided to try and make a custom chin splitter for my 240z. I found a rather flat spoiler on craigslist and am going to use it as the here we go: test fitting the spoiler without any modification.
  9. Today i created some homemade fuel lines for my car; the design has a return fuel line that ties into the OEM return lines of the 240Z.... hopefully it works as intended. Also installed my beloved monte-carlo bar.
  10. Finally got the SBC and T5 dropped into the 240z. The entire motor sits behind the front cross member. Next step is to get the motor plumbed and wired; also need to get the drive shaft cut and balanced.
  11. I would like to buy a JTR V8 manual. Let me know if you have one for sale
  12. Got the motor and tranny out today. Took about 3hrs from start to finish.
  13. CHAPTER II So i have decided to go ahead and do a carbureted small block chevy swap into my series I 240Z. As always i will be doing all the work in my garage with the help of friends. First my motor: I'm hoping to get around 250+hp and 300tq at the wheels. freshly rebuild Chevy 5.7L SBC 350. 4-Bolt main Block has been bored 40 over An excellent set of 882 heads Edelbrock RPM airgap intake Holley 600cfm carb New Comp 268 cam kit. New flat top pistons providing a 9.5:1 compression ratio M/T valve covers New Black Coated Steet Rod Hugger Headers Second Transmission: I will be using a World Class T5 out of a 5.0L mustang. I have rebuilt the transmission and done a few upgrades to build in a lil extra strength into the T5. New shift forks New shift fork inserts heavy duty cluster gear support plate New Input Shaft/4th Gear Bearing & Race New Output Shaft Bearing & Race (85-95) heavy duty input Bearing Retainer Third Chevy SBC to Ford T5 Coupling: In order to couple a chevy motor to a ford transmission i an using the bell housing for a chevy WC T5 transmission and a custom adapter plate. Fourth Clutch: Again to run a chevy motor with a ford transmission i an running a flywheel and pressure plate from a F-body camaro and the clutch is from a 5.0L ford mustang. I'll be using a JTR kit for the engine mounts etc. I have the drive shaft from the mustang and once i get the engine and transmission transplanted into the car; Ill get a final measurement for the drive shaft and have it cut and balanced. I got the hood and the exhaust off the car to get ready to pull the old 2.4L L6 motor.
  14. I know its a long shot but i figured it was worth a try..... I'm looking for a 1988 thru 1992 World class 5 speed Borg warner T5 transmission out of a camaro, firebird or similar car that had a 305 V8 in it. Please let me know if you have one for sale or know someone that does.
  15. Ok so I'm swapping a 5.7L SBC 350 into my Datsun 240z. All i have so far is the motor. Let me know if you have any of the other parts required for the swap for sale. I am currently looking for a JTR kit and a good WC T5 out of a V8 camaro or similar car.
  16. So word is that Nissan is reviving Datsun brand to sell cheap cars in countries such as India, Russia and Indonesia. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/driveon/post/2012/03/nissan-is-reviving-datsun-brand/1#.T1JUfPEge_E
  17. the intent of the car is to be grand tourer. Lots of highway/freeway miles. I also still have teh original R180 3.36 diff the car came with stock. Would i notice any realy differnce between a 3.55 and a 3.36?
  18. Ok so i'm doing a SBC 350 swap into my 240z. Just wondering if its gonna be a bad idea for me to use a 4.11 longnose R200 open diff in cungunction with my small block and WC T5 tranny. The SBC 350 will be putting down a very modest 300hp 350 tq at the flywheel. The car is going to be a 100% street car. your thoughts?
  19. Kool I'll double check the lift for a stock vortec head. Yup but i can get an intake for $150 shipped and that would be a pretty cheap 40hp.
  20. awesome 350hp would be more than plenty for a good street car. From what i have read online the Vortec heads can run a cam with up to .480 lift; so the 268H cam with its .454 lift should be fine.
  21. I have an excellent set of Vortec heads out of a 98 suburban. How much HP would i add by swapping the 882's out for the Vortecs?
  22. Like the title says i am looking for a JTR SBC 350 engine kit for my 1970 240z. ALso need a mount for a world class T5 out of a Camaro.
