Build a clone. You can make it exactly like you want and not worry about putting too many miles on it.
Even the well done clones are starting to bring pretty good money.

I'll be in Germany on the 5th, but just think...we will be drinking beer in different places together!

Not a bad job; nice interior. The tail lights and lack of dual exhaust tips kill it for me though.

Nah, you can easily cut it with tin snips or carbon wheel.
Expanded Metal, like you would find at Home Depot or other hardware stores is easy to cut with snips. If you want to use the good stuff; stainless steel double crimped wire mesh like used on Jags and other high-end cars, then you will need to use an abrasive wheel or something similar. Here is a link to one of many companies who sell crimped wire mesh: http://www.wiremesh-wanda.com/wire-mesh/wire-mesh.htm. Check ebay too.

I was fired-up about the show after reading this thread so I had my wife tape the Ford episode today. I was really disappointed; too much on the Cobras not enough on Shelby's turn-around and development of the GT-40 project or the Shelby Mustangs, Boss series, Torino Cobras and not a single Pantera in the whole show!
Too many replicas also.

Here's a tip... We're not alone on this planet, and if you ask people in other countries, WE are butchering the king's enrish!
This world is bigger than you and I...

gijonas is not talking about Alain; he's talking about the host of Pinks.

Thanks guys.
After Pete's explanation I now understand why the machinists said it would not be a problem to run a high pressure oil pump. After the post by lbhsbz I checked out the after-market performance websites and just like he said, there are plenty of them out there.
-
I love that show! The only thing better would be if Alain ran over the guy from Pinks with one of the cars (and then backed-up over him).
Maybe they will do a Jeep episode so they don't mess up a beautiful car with that dweeb.

If you think about Kennesaw (just northeast of me), bring your gun...it's the law...seriously...heads of households are supposed to own a gun to purchase a home or property. A recent article sheds some light on it. Click
That law is not really enforced; it was more of statement to the gun controll lobby. What it boils down to is...we Georgians prefer the concept of mutual deterents rather than being unarmed.

Guys, on-line I have read (hearsay?) that if your child gets a B average in school or better, he can attend a state college and the tuition is paid for? Is that true????
Davy
That's the "Hope Scholarship"; a program funded by the Georgia Lottery.

I just got my short block back from being assem/balanced and the machinists blocked off the oil filter bypass hole with a threaded plug. He said this was to keep the oil pressure up and was a common practice when they built engines. After seeing it, a couple mechanic buddies warned not to use a high pressure or high volume oil pump with this modification or I could blow the oil filter.
Here are a couple pics so you can see:
Are you guys (Grumpy) familiar with this mod and would you recommend it for a street car? What suggestions do you have for an oil pump?
Thanks.

if you hunt there are good deals out there you don;t have to buy new.
I've had the same lincoln dc-250 multi-process machine for years. I got that for 400 bucks with a LN-7 wire feeder and 50 ft power cord to the feeder so I can go ANYWHERE. I added a tig torch and pedal to that for 200 (used but they still work) and just last week I scored a Miller Dialarc ac/dc HF machince with cooler and cart everything minus gas tank and tig torch for 100 bucks thats right 100 bucks. 400 dollars for the tank and torch and consumables. and I'm welding alum at home now. Buying used old equipment for good deals is better than buying new cheap stuff any day.
76S30,
I could not agree more; that Harbor Freight contraption is a hand grenade!
Do you have any advice as where to look for used equipment? I bought a good commercial stick welder from a rental store years ago but bought a new Miller MIG about 6 years ago (it's awesome). Any suggestions on where to find a good used TIG would be helpful.

If you can't find the right shims I thought this was pretty cool:

Here's one I found recently, not a bad price either....
I have heard TERRIBLE things about Phantom Grip LSD set-ups. I'm sure somebody else will chime in about them but from what I understand they are little more than a spring-loaded piece of sh!!!T that goes into a stock open-style differential.

East Cobb County is on the border of Fulton County (Alpharetta) and the real estate taxes are less (my lot is an acre and I pay $1300 annually in taxes...small house) and the schools are good (I've got kids). I've lived in Alpharetta and now live in East Cobb; the big issue in Atlanta and the surrounding area is how close you are to work. Traffic here is some of the worst in the nation and can really affect your quality of life. I work in Buckhead and it's a good hour each way....sucks!!!
As compared to California prices, the city of Alpharetta, East Cobb, the city of Woodstock and Cherokee Counties are going to be a dream come true for you.
Try to get in-town while you are here. Virginia Highlands, Little Five Points and Mid-Town are fun.

If you can't find the Skyline lights you should be able to recreate that look using a combo of Ford Falcon and Corvair or early 70's Camaro taillights.

I just completed rebuilding my WC T5.
The best and most complete rebuild kit I have seen is from The Gear Box
http://www.thegearbox.org/page/page/3819132.htm. Their kit is a little more expensive but has all of the shims, etc. (the kit I ordered from Hanlon Motorsports did not have any shims but Judy at The Gear Box tracked some down for me). The rebuild video from Hanlon Motorsports was very helpful and guides you through a complete teardown & rebuild: http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/index.asp
You can get the needed V blocks on ebay and a cheap dial indicator from Harbor Freight.
Here are some other sources:

All I can say is...supercool!
Those are awesome depictions of barnyard finds; you can almost smell the musty interiors. The work to recreate the faded peeling paint, rusty components and rotting interiors is awesome! To create a diorama all he has to do is place one of his models on some dirt or asphalt; truly amazing.

A mechanic friend of mine was talking about having the outside of a cast iron block machined to remove extra material for weight reduction. He said the result was a cool looking block that weighed about 20lbs less.
Has anyone else heard of this?

YES to 1
No to 2
Have some balls...It will be fun!

I still can't believe that there is not a full tube frame kit for the GTO like the Factory Five Racing Cobra kits, Daytona kits, etc. Is it because the kit car companies are afraid of legal action by Ferrari?
On another note; 16 days and two emails to Oliver at the "new" Scorpion Z and I still haven't gotten an answer about the fiberglass rocker covers. I've gotten the proverbial "I'll get back to you" twice so far but that's it.

Just finished 6 long days (10-12 hrs ea.) working on the car. I'm physically and mentally beat. Progress, although slow, is being made. The wiring harness is finished, the rear end is installed (can't wait to see how the Quaife performs), serpentine system is done (looks amazing !!) and the interior is almost there. Just working on the speaker/sub brackets then I'll snap in the plastic panels. Got the front fenders finished and mounted. I'm really happy with the latch mechanism. After hours of sanding/buffing the aluminum has a mirror finish. Found a guy how is going to try and make me a set of trim rings for the headlights. I'll find out in a couple of weeks how they turned out and how much they cost me.
Hey Mike, haven't forgotten about the valve covers. If you're still interested send me an e-mail.
When you get your strength back...Post Some Pictures!
Can't wait to see it!

Could you provide contact info for either place? Send me a PM if you want. Especially the place that did the whole body or the guy in the club.
I'm leaving town today but will try and get you the info this weekend.

My GTO Rhino Blue Ray GT was bought from Rod Simpson. My cross wire 15 X8 Daytons were special ordered by Simpson from Dayton with the proper off sets front and rear for the GTO and cost $400.00 a piece way back then. You may be able to contact Simpson or Dayton about the wire wheels. IF you cannot find anything out , I will measure mine.....PM me for this.... I cold photograph the wheels and rocker panel cover. I also have the rocker panel pieces which would be easy to splash. My Tomahawk kit could use the rocker panel covers and I intended to make a mold this summer among a dozen other things. I will only work with fiberglass outdoors. I have the push button door latch mechanisims (3 sets) made but no chance yet to fit them.
Hi Larry,
Where did you get all your latch mechanisms? Let me know if you want to part with any.
I contacted Oliver Meulbrouck at Scorpion Z Cars in the UK. He said he was handling everything now and made it sound as if Tom was no longer involved. He is supposed to be getting me prices on the rocker panels but haven't gotten anything back from him yet. Keep me posted if you decide to splash your rocker panel covers.
Thanks,
J.P.
