  1. Do you have the JTR manual? I am at the same point as you. I have looked at the suggested wiring in the manual and am confused. I am not sure what starter is on the car since we bought a running car and have had to completely rewire the car. It was a show car and the wiring was really buchered. We removed all wiring and rewired with a 1983 wiring harness. I will have my son work on the wiring this weekend and let you know how we come out. We are having a problem with the tach wiring. There is a resistor between the tach and the distributor. We can not find it.
  2. On an 1989 280ZX and a 1980 the resistor for the tech is in the finder well by the window washer unit. Where did they put the resistor on a 1983 280ZX ? waskomtexas@waskomtexas.com
  3. We found out how to fix the problem. We took the electric portion off the lock part. We took a pare af plires and bent the square part that turns the electrical part of the switch slightly and it worked fine.
  4. We are finishing up on a 1982 280ZX and can not get current through the starting circut. A large white wire with a black tracer is in the plug on the back of the ing switch. As best I can tell when I turn the key to start current should flow through the back of the switch to the large yellow wire. My car does not have the relay only goes through a switch on the trans. Then to the starter solenoid. It does not work. We have removed the ignition, taken the electrical switch off the back of the ignition switch and used a flat blade screw driver to turn the electrical switch and it works. We have tried this with two seperate ignition switches and both do the same thing. What are we ddoing wrong? See my car waskomtexas@waskomtexas.com
  5. I have a 1982 280ZX with a Chev. 350, it was a show car on the audio circut so the wiring was buchered. We removed "all" of the audio and original wiring. I wanted to go back with a digital dash so I bought a wiring harness and all electronic components from a 1983 280ZX. Most ov the installuation has went well everything seems to work, including the new audio. A light green wire with a white goes from the back of the tach to a resistor. From the resistor a blue wire runs to the distributor on the 350 eng. Qustion #1. Where is the resistor located? Question #2. Will the existing resistor work. The JTR manual says to use a 15K resistor, does this replace the original resistor. If you have information on this please respond. See my car waskomtexas@waskomtexas.com
  6. I have a 1982 280ZX with a 1983 wiring harness including the digital dash. How do I connect the tach to the dist. I have traced the wires. Starting at the tach, I think the correct wire is LgW (light green w/white tracer. According to the manuals that I have it runs to a resistor and out of the resistor it is L (blue) and that wire connects to the dist. If so where is the resistor located and will I have to change the resistor. The JTR manual says that I will need a 15K ohm resistor form radio shack. Will that resistor be the correct one for the digital tach? Do I just replace the original resistor with the 15K ohm and where is the original resistor located in the car? 10. Nice car, looks somewhat like the one I am working on. We don't have any new pictures since I purchased it back about July. We had to complete rewire the car and are putting the original dash back in the car. We have completly reworked the sound system. Our motor is pretty much stock and no longer has the blower. Check out my car.
  11. The car has the original rear end and the tires are Pirelli P700-z 225/50ZR 15. I did type the web address wrong. Corrected web address waskomtexas@waskomtexas.com
  12. We have a 1982 Datsun 280ZX, it has a Chev. 350 and a turbo-400 trans. We are installing a digital dash. We also need to use a right angle drive coming out of the tran to eliminate the sharp bend in the cable. The Chev parts says they have several different gear ratios in the right angle drives. Does anyone know what ratio I should use? See our car at: waskomtexas@waskomtexas.com
  13. I have a set of Phantom White Face gages for sale. I took them out of a car. You can see then at:Phantom Gages waskomtexas@waskomtexas.com
  14. I have a set of Phantom white face gages that I removed from my car after I baught it. You can see them in the car at: Phantom Gages If you think you would be interested in them e-mail me. waskomtexas@waskomtexas.com Phone 903-687-2456
  15. Actually I am also comverting to a digital dash also. I purchased a car that had been used as a show car and had most of the original wireing either removed or chopped up. The heater/air, windshield wiper and most of the under hood components were also missing. We knew that it would be a "project car" and it has been. But we are making good progress and will have a great car when we are finnished. After I got the car ripped out all of the old wireing and installed the wireing and digital dash components out of a 1983 280zx. I did not get the blower motor assembly. I did get the center portion of the heat/air assembly with the wireing. We have installed the airconditioner center assembly and and blower assembly out of a 1980 280zx. It all fits together but I am afraid that the blower assembly should have some sensors that the 1980 does not have. Anyone that has any information on this or if you have a blower assembly out of a 1983 that you wish to sell let me know.
  16. I need the wireing harness that fits on a 1983 Datsun 280zx auto heater/air blower motor. The wireing harness that is on the controler part "in the center" has a plug 12 pins "wires" and the blower motor only has 8 pins "wires". I may also need the complete blower assenbly out of an auto air system. I am not sure yet as I have not traced all of the wires. It may be that there are some sencers in the auto blower system that my blower system is missing. If you know or have the harness or the complete blower system let me know.My Zcar waskomtexas@waskomtexas.com
  17. Guess I am getting too old I remember America the free. One day they will put cameras in your bathroom and if you don't brush your teeth you will have to go in for counseling. It's way past 1984.
  18. I have a car that I got with the dash out. There are some rubber bushings about 1/2" thick x 1" wide and 1 1/2" long. Where do they go. waskomtexas@waskomtexas.com
  19. We are customizing the rear compartment for our 1982 Datsun 280ZX to accommodate a sound system. Can we find a "Donut" spare tire that will fit our car? waskomtexas@waskomtexas.com
  20. Does the B&M Hammer have the ratchet action?
  21. Thanks for you responses. I do not know much about shifters, its meen many years since I had any experence with after market shifters and the weree junkey. My son says we should install one with a ratchet action. I want one that looks good and is very good quality.
  22. We have a 1982 Datsun 280ZX with a Chev 350 eng & automatic trans. It has the original Datsun shifter. We would like to install something better, we would like a ratchet. The car will be used for street use. The car is real nice and how it looks is important to us. You can see the car at: http://waskomtexas.com/zcar/ We have removed the dash and are putting the original dash back into the car. We are also re wiring the car. What would you recommend for a shifter? We would consider a used one if it is in very good shape but have no problem buying a new one. e-mail us. studioa@prysm.net Benny
  23. To take off knobs: 1) Push the knob in 2) While pushing in, turn knob (I believe you can turn in either direction, but try right). It should come off. The knobs have a small spring within the plastic that holds it against the switch shaft. Try it, it'll work. THANKS TO: Bob Bass
  24. yes, we have tried pulling and prying with no luck. Some light switches have a release in the switch body that releases the stem and knob. I have not been able to find any kind of release.
  25. I looked them over real good and found no set screws.
