DRIVESHAFT LENGTH FOR LS1 WITH JCI MOUNTS (JOEY)
LS1 Z replied to qwik240z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Your cool Dave! My original shaft was about 4-5 inches short. What is up with your trans crossmember? Thought about the JTR route? Or I wonder what John's will look like? JOEY -
The exhaust cost 750.00!!! Ouch.. but... or no buts He did an excellent job. As you probably know, there man Tony also did MAS280'S and KHASHABI1'S LS1Z'S. MAS280 recommended MEL AND SONS. Through out this whole project MAS280 has given me alot of advice, opinions and tips. He has yet to steer me wrong. Mike has alot of knowledge and is always willing to share. Thanks again JOEY
-
First off big THANKS to Mas280 for posting pictures!!! The exhaust is 2.5" off the headers through 2 18" glass packs (sorry don't know the brand) to 3" out the back to a Magnaflo 3" in and out. Mel and Sons did a very nice job! Nice to have time to get this completed. Whats left, Fuel lines, Speedometer and wire to car!!! Shooting for 2 week deadline!!!! JOEY

Got some what of an update!!! The car is at Mel and Sons getting the exhaust put on. They did MAS280'S and KHASHABI1'S. There guy Tony, does great work! What I'm doing is 2.5" off the Sanderson headers, Through 2 glass packs, to a single 3" out the back to a magna flow muffler. Tony said with that set up will be more than enough exhaust for the car and it will have a nice sound! The throttle cable I'm using one from a Camaro (thanks Mike Knell). What I did is remove the pedal assembly from the car. I cut the curved part off the metal rod, so it is now straight. I then drilled a hole, towards the top, for the cable to go through. On the body,I hammered the piece of sheet metal down, to bring the pedal up and get full accel. Bingo. The pedal is still lower than the brake pedal and flored the throttle plate is wide open!!! Will get some pictures to MAS to post soon. THANKS MIKE!!! JOEY

Hey Dave!! seems we took over this 280zx thread. Anyways. I agree 100% with MAS280, the JTR Trans member will work. Mike Knell is on top of his game(talked to him this week). John will give you a refund. Also do me a favor and let me know the length of your drive shaft, say the length of the tube. The reason I'm asking is my drive shaft was about 6 inches short. John knows about this. I figure I bought my kit in January, sooo the problem has been corrected by the time you got yours. I looked at the shaft for 2 weeks, with no time to escape from work and Drive Line services picking up a customers shaft. I had them take mine and lengthen it. John knows this and offered to compinsate. My Z is at the Muffler shop right now, and I will have it back on monday. Soooo if it takes me till then to get back to you on length. I will and I will add to the JOEY PICS post on the exhaust and my throttle cable! JOEY

WOW Qwik240, You do sound a little frustrated! When I mounted my trans cross member I kind of thought the 240 would be different. Looking at the underside of MAS280'S(240Z) My crossmember would not work. Patience is a vurtue my man! John has been wonderfull with me and I'm sure he is on top of it!!!! JOEY

I'm lagging big time!!! The car is basically the same as my last update. I haven't lost interest by any means, I've just been soo busy. I haven't had any time. Just got back from 2 weeks vacation back east, back to back weddings, nascar, carshows, softball and family events, have taken up all my free time. I'm gonna have the car shipped out this week for exhaust and start working on it after repairing everybody elses crap all day long! I'm shooting for 2 weeks! Very tired of pushing it in and out of the shop daily!! JOEY
-
ONE MORE!! Wiring it up will save you alot of time or..... Sending your harness out to HOWELL or CHIPSBY. Will probably come with a similiar or same box. Even more time saved!!!! JOEY
-
That box looks identical, by description and looks as the one that came on my DYNATECH harness. Either made by the same people or a copy. but...... Dead on. JOEY

The definitive LS1 header thread; Sanderson, etc.
LS1 Z replied to Savage42's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
HEY GARY!! I'm using Sanderson headers. The same as MAS280 AND KHASHABI1. There is no part number due to they are custom made by Boyd. Cost? 860.00 coated. Mine was the third set he made, after one test fit, they were welded up and coated. They are a block hugger style, with I believe 1 5/8 tubing. Very nice??? Exhaust I haven't got to yet. Been very busy, no-time. JOEY -
O.K. I'll try this again, Dalemx had a good point but.. not sure how to go. Anyways.. The ls1 z project is almost done. What's left... The engine is wired just gotta wire to the car. I went with an Edelbrock fuel pressure regulator mounted where my washer bottle was(thanks mas) and my fuel lines are still being made up by my local machine shop. John's pump in line filter and lines ran back to the tank. Exhaust, similiar to MAS280'S and KHASHABI1 to be done at the same muffler shop. I'm thinking about duals all the way out to a single large muffler.(don't wanna cut the body). Spent last sunday(the one before memorial day) with Mike Knell working on the Z. He brought by the rest of my cold air intake and a throttle cable. Mike is great for his knowledge, comments and opinions. Right on Mike you rock Mike did have a name my project and I believe it was either "The cream of the crop" or "The Princess of the Night" or i forgot and will let you know. Kinda goes with Qwik240 and Savage and there Silver bullet projects. My car has been built with silver bullets!! Anyway's The Mistakes and Mod's I have made.. Worst first-- all $$$ In the beginning I was gonna go smog legal, bought a smog pump. tossed that due to evap. IT KILL'S ME I'VE BEEN TYPING FOR THE LAST 2 HOURS. FOR MY POST ON MY PROJECT AND TO HIT SUBMIT. AND FOR IT TO GET LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LS1 Z

WOW DALE!!! THE INSIDE OF MY BOX IS VERY CLEAN, THE FUSES ARE IN THERE, AND ALL RELAYS AND FUSES ARE ALL MARKED AND MOUNTED ON A CIRCUIT BOARD. LOOKS GOOD!!
-
The black box is wired into the harness close to where the ecu plugs in. The ecu will still need to be reprogrammed. I'm using LS1 EDIT. The harness made my life alot easier. The manual is fantastic, the quaility is first rate. All of my lost questions and some I didn't even think of are in the "black box". Relays, wiring, vats all in there. The huge down fall is.... I had zero comunication with DYNATEC!!!! They had my whole harness and ecu for 3.5 months. No returned phone calls! Nothing!! Soooo long I thought it was lost forever. I purchased another complete harness off E-bay to do it myself. And.... When they did send my harness back, they didn't return my ECU!!! Luckly I scored an ECU W/ LS1 EDIT program off E-bay. I'm not soo sure I would recommend them at this point untill they get there sh*% together. If Oscar is cought up give them a shot. phone 562-945-5300, E-mail milj@juno.com or http://www.autogoodies.com/dynatech. As for the LS1 Z project getting close.... Will write more about the car very soon, gotta open the shop!!! JOEY

I'M USING THE JTR RADIATOR AND MOUNTS. LOOKS NICE!!!

Hey Qwik240!! I do plan on showing my car as well as racing. To powder coat all the power to you! Alot of my car is powder coated(bumpers, trim, ect....)I'll touch the brackets up. Do you remember me by saying his manual is not the greatest?! That's O.k.... It will get the motor-trans mounted. All the rest of the stuff is all here. MAS280, PHANTOM, ME AND OTHERS will all make it work!! I will post an update soon!!!(you will have alot of questions!!!) As for John.... Zero complaint's. He has been great!!! I would like to meet him and give a hand shake and thank you! JOEY
-
I"m as you probably know... Another me too!!!! My box also came damaged. I believe due to U.P.S. I thought I was missing a motor mount, The mounting on the kit with Johns directions.... All clear! John's has been great to deal with. Very nice guy. As for fuel see Joey's update pic's. No pic's on fuel yet, but... direction asper MAS280 on how to work it. Wiring... I used Dynatec, great product. I believe being a business owner, they need management. John recommends Howell or Chipsby. Unless you have a welder and alot of time.... John's is the way to go!!!! My rocket is about realeased!!!!!!!!!! All will be seeing my rear license plate LS1 Z JOEY-A.K.A. LS1 Z

I guess my many e-mails got to Mas280. Thanks Mike!!! Those of you just starting on this post. Please go to LS1 MOTOR MOUNT OPTIONS and come to here!! To answer a couple of questions?? The headers (which should come tommorow) are custom made by SANDERSON. Same as MAS280 AND KHASHABI1. Boyd at Sanderson is getting it down. The 3rd set he has made for the LS1 Z. Larger than John's I believe 1 5/8 tubes. Cost?? 860.00 coated! The aluminum tube on the drivers side is the intake, missing a couple of pieces to be delievered by Mike Knell next week. The set up is going from I believe 4.5 or 4 at the throttle body to 3 or 3.5 at the M.A.F. and wraping around the front to a 9 inch K&N filter. The tube fits perfect through the hole. All available from J.T.R. The car is getting close and I'm excited. Whats left???? I finally got my harness back from Dynatec (3 month's later). And Just like Mas280 said if ... you get it back they do nice work. True the harness came back with a "black box" The box bypasses VATS, has relays for the starter, A/C, high and low speed fans and gauge hook ups. W/ EXCELIENT instructions! Quite impressed. I'll get to the mistakes I've made in my next post. Still gotta work on a rad fan. Mas280 gave great advise on the shifter. Camaro shifter mounted in the tunnell. On top,the consul won't fit. Still working on a throttle cable. Tried a 94 integra cable and it's about a inch short. As for this week end....... Get the shifter done. and work on the fuel lines. Going with a aftermarket regulator, John's pump and an in line filter. Will post mod's to the motor in my next post! As for exhaust I'm thinking of going duels with small glass packs(like mas) to a single muffler at the back(unlike mas, he has 2, i don't wanna cut the body). Anyways Gotta go be a star in Softball!!! JOEY - A.K.A. LS1 Z OH!!! ALMOST FORGOT A QUOTE!! "COMPAIRING A LT1 TO A LS1 IS LIKE COMPAIRING 6 CYLINDER TO A 8 CYLINDER" MIKE KNELL.........

The car is getting close!! I sent mike 4 e-mails yesterday. What your looking at is the first set(obviuosly). Did you get all 4 Mike? I believe there is a total of 30 or so pictures. Starting from the ones posted here to how the car looks today. I believe he is putting them on a site. I'm using my home computer(the old work one, aol dial up) due to my new Dell w/ dsl got a real bad virus-worm and was eaten alive! Which slows things up(sending the pictures over three tries would take over a hour each time) . Enough about computers!!! I will post a long post on detail on how the project is going in the next day or so, when I have more time!! Gotta get to work!! JOEY P.S. THANKS MAS280
-
Without a doubt a bad ground. I ran in to this problem years ago on a 68 Camaro. My throttle linkage would get hot and spark everytime I cranked the motor over. To solve make sure your negative cable goes right to the starter or even block, to a bare metel surface.(not painted). can also add braided ground strap or straps from engine to body!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH GTPLUS2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ordered JCI LS1 Mount Kit today
LS1 Z replied to DaleMX's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
As You all know I'm also using John's Kit, almost done. Check the LS1 MOTER MOUNT OPTIONS TOPIC FOR UP DATES AND PIC'S SOON TO COME!!! As for the drive shaft.... MAS280 came by in his Z today and measured his motor to mine... Johns kit sets the motor one inch forward than his or for what I believe where a JTR set up would be!!!! JOEY A.K.A. LS1 Z P.S. Everbody wants my personalized plates!!!!!!!!!!! Care to guess what they are????? -
Weekly update!!!! The car is getting close!!! I got the r200 posi installed! My headers will be done on wednesday. Serp belt installed. Thank you KHASHABI1 for bringing your Z by for a looksy. By the way how did it go at Sanderson? JTR radiator and supports in stalled. The rad works with John's hoses! And part of my cold intake is on. Need a couple more pieces from JTR. I have pictures of all of this from the beginning. By the time I got the software installed on my computer, I had a few too many beers and got confused They will be on the way shortly!!! As for DYNATEC.... They don't return phone calls and I will be on them again this week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JOEY
