T56 6 speed install tips and shifter recommendations
LS1 Z replied to qwik240z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Hey Dave!!! Funny you brought this up. I installed mine yesterday. I will do a post shortly on the install!! JOEY P.S. PIX Are on the way (I'm such a lagger at times) -
WOW!!! Johnc. I've been a smog tec here in northern Cali for 18 years. And I've haven't seen or heard of BAR nailing cars at car shows. But..... The small town I'm in has sheriffs (spelled wrong) instead of cops and they have issued tickets for modified cars to go to Test only for a Smog inspections! JOEY

When Big Arnie got into office, He got rid of the 30 year exception and brought it back to 1975 and older. JOEY
-
It is normal. From what I know the cars came with the negative tow in the rear. ARIZONA MOTORSPORTS sells suspension upgrades to make the rear fully adjustable. I've seen these set up's a couple of times at my shop. Very nice!! JOEY

HEY DALE!!!! I can answer those 2 questions. If you remember I have the same headers as you but I got mine much earlier, custom made and alot more money!(sanderson) Also, as you know John's kit. Mike Knell is totally aware of these 2 problems, well not sure about the o.p.s. He even asked my opinion about shaving a little off the block. I didn't have a problem with it and neither did MAS280, KHASHIBI1 or 1FLYFAST1. For oil pressure go to the LS1 location and get an adapter. The stock G.M. one will read backwards with Datsun gauge. JOEY P.S. Aren't they nice!!!!

I don't know why they closed after years after all these years.I'll ask him next time I talk to him. I new customer of mine (ex z-doctor) menctioned that John (new manager at Orinda Motors) came from there. Small town here in Orinda, we all get along and deal with each other and most importaint of all people are gonna go were they are most comfortable and can trust. Enough of my soap box. Need me or help I'm always here! JOEY
-
I'm right on the other side of the tunnel from you in Orinda (orinda shell auto care). I've worked on Hydridz's members car's as well as worked with members here on our own cars. Or.. If your looking for John (Z-Doctor). You can find him at Orinda Motors. JOEY

LS1 1-3/4" headers now available
LS1 Z replied to MikeJTR's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Hey Dale!! I believe they are the same as mine and MAS280'S. But at a much better price and made by the same company (SANDERSON). We paid 850.00. Right on Mike for your work. No mine do not have egr, smog pump or the o2 bungs. Go with the LS6 intake (no egr). Get rid of the smog pump and your o2 bungs will be in the header pipe. LS1 EDIT will let you deleat the unnesassary smog equipment and codes that you will throw. Unless..... Your doing a totally smog legal swap with evap and cats? Collector size? I don't remember 2 1/2 or 3 inch I believe. I'm sure Mike will answer this! JOEY -
I'm interested! When are you thinking of doing this? Sounds like fun. I just need to get my cam installed and the T-56! I'm lagging! JOEY

I use the tool on daily basis and have had one for years. Excellent tool and the amount of info has saved me tons of hours. I have had zero problems.

Yo YOP..... http://WWW.BROKENKITY.COM !! John's cars are great. as well as, use the search function. A ton of info has been written by me as well as others. PLETHURA Don't know the def to that one. but.. I believe i gotta clue! Need any help Dale or any of you bug bitten LS1Z people, feel free to get ahold of me! And yes! as QWIK240Z said... Still lots more of work. I used to wonder way ahead on how this project would turn out, and ALL of these problems I would run into. At times, I didn't have an answer. Every thing comes together, through this website. Hella cool Like one big family!! THANK YOU JOEY

Always remember.... "The first four rules!" 1. Engage BRAIN before hands 2. Check the basics 3. Check the basics 4. PLEASE Check the basics...... Do you have compression?!?! What do the plugs look like? I don't know your expierence. Why did the car sit for that amount of time? If the plugs are wet in way, replace. Gas being that old, does it smell bad?! JOEY
-
Hey Bill!!! What about yours? In John's eyes maybe yours doesn't count? Then again, you are the guinne pig! And at 13k Johns design has been proven!!! You Guys Rock!!! JOEY
-
RIGHT ON MIKE!! I can testify on John's kit. I've had no-problems with the kit or dealing with John. I was a little surprised when I talked to him a couple of weeks ago and he menctioned out of the kits he has sold, Mine is the only one he was aware of that was on the road. I got about 500 miles on the car and was about to head to the track when the stupid trans went out! Going to a T-56. As for JTR.... Like Mike menctioned you can do the mix(like I did). JTR rad set up with John's hoses. My air ducting, no problems. And the biggest one is my headers. Mine were custom made by Sanderson.(Same as MAS280'S) And are the same that JTR is gonna offer for alot less! JOEY
-
. I believe JTR is getting close. I would p.m. MIKEJTR or give JTR a call. Great people to deal with!! JOEY

73 240z with Ls1 passenger side header fitment.
LS1 Z replied to lex240zls1's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I'm running with Johns kit also. Using custom made Sanderson headers 1 3/4. My doner car was 00 camaro. I believe your gonna have to change the oil pan. That hurts pulling the motor . What kind of headers are you using? JOEY P.S. YOUR GONNA LOVE THE POWER!!! -
From what I have seen the more training you get the better you get paid. Its not how much work you do its what you know! I am trying to get myself to the drivabilty side of the auto repair business because thats where I think the money is.......anyone can check for loose suspension parts, do maintance work, and recalls! Guy I agree a 100%!!!!
-
Well I also think or know B.S. I've had my own independant shop for 5 years and have been in the trade for 18, in California. It is all based on expierence!!!! I went through the trade schools as well as 2 out of 3 of my tecs. Beginning out of a trade school(smog licence?) 12 to 15. A seasoned Journeymen tec, well.... Sky can be the limit. I've heard up to 36 per hour. ALL BASED on what you can prove! There is alot of money to be made in automotive repair business. All based on what you can do. Tools don't make the tech. The Tech works the tools! In all reality...... Think how much the human body has changed in the last hundred years(not much) and think how much the automobile and the technology has changed in the last ten years . There is alot of money to be made and it doesn't happen over night or from a trade school(a building block) All comes from expierence and a willing to obtain and learn from expierence!!! JOEY

Another Sunday on the LS1 and a question.
LS1 Z replied to DaleMX's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
HEY DALE!! I used a air chisel with a flat tip. Not too bad. Cutting and bending? They are in there pretty well. I then used a sealer and spray painted. As John says "the point of no return"! Need any help feel free to p.m. or E-mail JOEY -
"And Searching is for pussies" Search function works fine, just tried it. I believe the whole key of "search search, search" is alot of these questions have been answered more than once. I've gotten a ton of info from this site and those few I couldn't find, I posted and recieved an answer! Never have I got "search". The answers are here.... As for crate motors and transmissions.... All my domestic engine and trans jobs, All come from my local dealers. I've had about 90%, no problems. The one G.M. motor(rod knock) and trans job(jeep cherokee blown trans) over five years. Not bad. Both times the vehicles went back to the dealer for replacement. Great warrenty! Although not sure how that would work with a hybrid. JOEY
-
RIGHT ON DALE!!! Looks like mine when I first pulled her out. I pretty much have picks of my hole swap. If you would like a set on a c.d. P.M. me your address and I'll get a set to you. I made up a set for John at John's cars and gonna get a set to 1qwik240. Let me know. Funny. I was talking to John last week and he said he didn't know my Z was on the road. Infact from the kits he has sold. My car is the only one he is aware of that is up and running! Keep us posted!!! JOEY
-
HEY DALE!! I too have the LS1 edit program. It is great, Amazing how much power you can get by ECU tuning!! My only down fall is I don't know the program. Hopefully MAS280 will key into this and answer all your questions! What has really made me wonder.... Is how people without the program get bye. Amazing what LS1 edit can do! It rocks JOEY

4L60E OR T56 YOUR CHOICE AND WHY FOR THE LS1Z
LS1 Z replied to LS1 Z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Amazing.... I won the trans on thursday (14th), Paid for it on friday and it arrived yesterday! Super quick E-bay transaction! All the way from Oaklahoma.(was wrong saying from maryland). Totally complete. Soo complete if I had an Auto Camaro/Firebird I could switch it out, pedals and all. I've beeen told I can get a Z06 clutch set up from G.M. QUESTIONS????? 1. What year S10 master do I need and How do you adapt it to the car and datsun pedal? 2. Is my John's Cars auto crossmember the same as the manual one and if it is does it bolt up to the body in the same place? If you guys don't know the answer to the second question, I can always get ahold of John. He owes me a favor from my drive shaft I got from him. And I'm sure I will have to get my drive shaft changed. JOEY -
4L60E OR T56 YOUR CHOICE AND WHY FOR THE LS1Z
LS1 Z replied to LS1 Z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Thank you very much for all of your opinions!! I ended up picking up a T56 off E-bay, out of a 99 firebird for 1275.00, complete. It is being shipped out of Maryland. Now the waiting part. I will switch it out as soon as it arrives. I'm sure not as quick as MAS280 style! But then again I don't see taking more than a day. Question?? Do any of you happen to know if John's cross member is the same for auto and stick? JOEY
