Mine came from a cbr 600. I talked to the guy that did the paint work on the car and he said they just cut the hole, brought the filler up from teh bottom and molded it in. Did a good job but it sucks for pracitcal purposes. You have to add gas really slowly or it sloshes out and gets on the paint or either clicks the pump off(like it's full). Pretty sure you can order a gas lid from a new bullit mustang and it's very similar. JT

Zpeed: I bought the car as is as far as looks goes so I really can't help you much as to how exactly everything was done. Basically all I have to it is mechanical work such as a new motor, LSD rear end, and 4 transmissions. JT

Zpeed: I own the orange car in the pics. The wheels are 18x8 TSW trophies. I believe the offset is +20 on the rears and +40 on the fronts. Fronts use a small spacer. rears are really really tight with stock suspension but now that I have coilovers I wish they wheels were tucked in a bit more in the rear b/c they want to scrub the fender lip on occasion. Sounds like a good deal even if it was a stock motor and turbo and all. Is it 5spd or auto? See if it has the p90 or p90a head. It will be on the pass front side of the head right next to the valve cover. JT

I want a good quality V8 sound. How could I achieve this. ----Drop in a v8 and throw some flowmasters on it. JT

I have a hurst and a steeda shifter and have also driven a car with a B&M. My personal preference is the hurst, although they are all comparable. JT

I want to invest in a set of wheels to fit some 8.5" ET streets on. Trying to work it out so the wheels will fit my 94 cobra as well but mainly need them for the Z. I want some 16x8 or 16x9 weld draglites. I have the coilovers with I think the 8 or 9" spring in the rear. What offset/backspacing will I need JT

Jamie? It's Jonathon. I wouldn't say money is no object, but I'm not worried about it costing more than a normal buildup, within reason. Like I said before, I just want to do everything possible to make the most power the first time I build it. JT

Not really all that worried about the price of the 3.1, just need to know what setup is going to be the best way to go for a high hp setup. Already have the LD crank but I'm sure I could get rid of it pretty easily if I decided to not use it. Anyone have experience building one of these? Can you send me in the right direction as to exactly what parts I need for the combo? Is it really even worth it? I'm shooting for 450-500 at the wheels, ultimately, so I would like to build the bottom end right the first time, rather than having to go back later and redo stuff I cheaped out on the first time. Nah, it's not a plate kit...just a single nozzle with an inlet for fuel and one for the nitrous. Installation would be trivial...just tap the nozzle in some where before the intake manifold and hook the fuel and nitrous lines to it. Pretty simple. It's lagging b/c it's just a big turbo on a low compression motor. Exhaust is 3" all the way out. Lag isn't really even the reason I want to spray it....reason is b/c I have an extra nitrous kit sitting here and a small shot does wonders for turbo cars. Main thing is I dunno how my bottom end will handle it...seems like I'm pushing it already. JT

240z turbo: You were using a wet kit, right? Were you doing this with the stock bottom end? the 60-1 on this car is pretty laggy. JT

I bought a Nitrous express wet kit the other day to replace the NOS dry kit on my 94 cobra but I have been thinking that maybe I could use the wet kit on the Z with a small shot. The car is pushing 350+hp to the wheels as-is. How much is the stock bottom end good for? I'm thinking that since it's a wet kit I'll be ok as far as fuel delivery goes. Seems like a little nitrous to go along with the laggy turbo would be sweet. Any comments? JT

I am thinking hard about upgrading my cobra tranny to a tremec in the very near future and since I have broken 3 trannies in the 280 in just a few thousand miles I am wanting to try to make the cobra tranny work in it. Here is what I am thinking: I want to find a junk T5 from a 280zx turbo and swap the bellhousing and input shaft over to the cobra tranny. Would this work? I can't think of any reason it shouldn't. JT

I was also asking about this a while back. The lower revs on the highway would be cool but my main reason for asking was to get a stronger tranny behind my l28. It's putting out around 350 at the wheels at the moment, soon to be alot more and the 280zx tranny doesn't like to hold up very well to it. Still haven't figured out what to do about it but I have another tranny to go in for the moment....after i nuke it I need to do something else I suppose. It's all going pretty straight forward. Pulled old r200 out, swapped flange that the driveshaft bolts to onto the LSD unit, started putting the LSD in the car. The fins won't let it bolt up all the way...they stick out too far(hitting on mustache bar?). ANyone else had this problem? I assume I'll need to swap to the plain non-LSD slick cover? SCCA: Yeah, since the headwork and stuff is going to cost me that much I will probably go ahead with the SDS next. Going to throw a 9" in there somewhere as well. I am ultimately shooting for well over 450+hp at the wheels with this car so when I do the head I want to go ahead and do everything now so I don't have to have more done later. Planning to build a bottom end maybe the first part of next year to hopefully handle that kinda power. Just trying to figure where to put the extra money from selling the 18" wheels at the moment. Speaker: I have 420's sitting on my shelf here. Check on z31.com..they are from a 75 mercedes or some **** like that. I called up top-end performance today since they listed motor and headwork, etc for nissan engines. Got a quote of $1600 for a full head job, oversize SS valves and all kinds of **** I can't name at the moment plus a new cam...seems like it was 490 lift and 270/274 duration. It was alot of work but seems like an awfull lot of money for it. Does this sound right to anyone or overpriced? Can anyone recommend another place to do headwork that is good? You mentioned in an earlier post that you were using z32 na wheels on your z. I was wondering what exactly you did to make them work. I have a set laying around and was test fitting them other day and from what I can see I will need about a 1.25" adapter in the rear and about a 1/2 spacer in the fronts. Does this sound right? I am selling my 18's and want something smaller and more practical with some sticky tires on them. I have some conquest wheels on the way but I would like to have a backup plan with these z32's in case the conquest wheels don't fit right. I have always had hursts in my cars until I got the cobra....I got it with a hurst in it but had a brand new steeda tri-ax shifter laying around for when I get a t5 in the Z so I threw it in the cobra for the meantime. It seems to be alot louder than the hurst but it's more comfy and seems to shift a little bit better. JT ------------------ 1978 280z with 280zx turbo motor. BLKMGK: Tirerack says the 245's are the same price as the 275's @ $145 apiece which is in my budget considering it would cost me about $180 apiece to replace the 18's on it now. It's cool, I was just playing. The rear tires are 245-40's and the fronts are 235-40's. I wouldn't recommend this wheel this big though b/c it is very heavy and hard to get traction with. I am selling them to a friend shortly and more than likely getting 17x8 SSR Integrals on the car. Nitto makes a 245-45-17 drag radial now so that's probably all that will go on the back of the Z anymore. Hopefully I won't be spinning half way down the track with those. Any T5 shifter will work. You can usually pick them up on a mustang site used for $100 or so. I like the steeda best of the shifters I have a felt but it is considerably louder.
