What carb is in that 280Z?...it may have been a little overkill but I put in a 110 in my '71' date=' had to install a regulator and block-off plate as well but it's been bulletproof for many years and is VERY quiet...there's a slight motor sound as the pump spins up on ignition but is soon lost under engine/exhaust notes...not the cheapest solution out there but the reliability has paid for itself over the time...

   [/quote']

I don't think the 280Z has carbs! EFI if I remember correctly. EFI systems require a higher fuel pressure than carbs. Regarging the Mallory fuel pump you have....I'm running the same style gear pump, mainly because it is so much quieter than the diaphram type. Works just fine too!

  2. Something in between perhaps? I don't want it to be overkill either, but it's always nice to be noticed when you have put so much time down in a car. But the most important thing is that the car looks GOOD! I want the best looking color! :-)

A best looking color may be different from one person to the next! I believe you are the only one who can make the color decision.....any input will only be a suggestion or a personal favorite color. You the one who has to live with it! My suggestion is to stick with a solid color and not a metalic!

  3. Also, If you plan to mount the cooler in the front grille, that means you will have quit a bit of hose running to and from the diff. With this additional volume of oil you may not require such a large cooler. Just a thought!

  4. #6 is certainly a product of our latest generation of youth. Everything is like, like, like, like, like, like...............etc! I guess every generation can be identified by some dumb use of the english language.

  5. Halloween Z, Put the idea out of your head! The little cruiser bike is designed for a 150cc engine! If you stuff anything into it with more than 15 HP you will certainly overstress everything else. If you go about modifying it to accept bigger HP, you will wind up spending alot of time and money. Just save your cash and when the time comes you can step up to a motorcycle

  6. I was considering "appropriate" gearing as what makes the car accelerate faster. :D

I would say, based on your statement, that lower gears would be the ticket for you. Example...4.11 gearing will allow a car to accelerate faster than 3.90 gearing given that everything else remains the same. It's the basic laws of physics coming into play.

  7. An X-military buddy of mine told me they call this situation a "Slamfire". He said guys with experience always stand to the side because this situation does occur from time to time. Certainly the breach block hit this guy first as a casing exits just before full recoil travel. Ouch for sure. Doesn't appear to be american troops though.

  8. Depends on which engine you are using. N/A might benefit from a 3.90 or 4.11, but a turbo I6 benefits from lower ratios like 3.54 or 3.36.

I don't think it matters if your engine is naturally aspirated or has forced induction, on what gearing is better or not. I think appropriate gearing is a matter of how you intend to drive your car! JMO.

  9. I think that with the right amount of attention, it has some potential.....

Tim, I know you are more than capable of turning any car into something nice...given the right amount of $$$ and time, but why this piece of dodo. There is a saying that goes like this......"Friends don't let friends buy junk".

  10. Looks to me like someones nightmare and a future owners endless money pit. "Front end is like a 67 vette (NOT) and the rear is like a 74 vette (NOT)!!!!" Looks exactly like a hacked up Z car to me. Beyond the sad looking exterior, it appears to be a stock Z. Maybe if the guy reduced his price to $500.00 he might get some takers.

P.S. Tim are you feeling well?
