I do remember reading a post on a Z site about the N47 head flowing better than the n42 ... I remember the guy even had flow charts to back up his clame. Im gonna be using a P79 for a turbo project, everyone always freeks out over the steel liners but If it flows better...
right now I have an N42 head with a mild cam... not very good for a turbo project
What are you going to run for your fuel delivery... SU's, Triples, FI?
Matt-
modded su's is the set up im runnin, ported n36 runners, matched spacers, matched carbs. blah blah blah. plus a dual fogger setup on the nitrous side of it. should make for a hell of a ride. if you keep the egt's down to a certain degree, the liners shouldn't make that big of a difference either way you go

Hmm.. Silent about summed up the “non-classified†reasons for his choosing the N-47 over all other available L-series heads.
I’ll just leave it at that.. He heheh he…
can't give all the secrets away
-
Hey silent, why did you go with the N-47 head just wondering
Matt-
im sneaky for one. i have an n47 on the car right now. also. the cc of the chambers, vs the cc of the pistons. getting the c/r that i was going for. couldn't do it with other heads. im sure he could, but i didn't want to do a full blown race head. and i wanted to keep the same header that i have now.
im sure paul can go into more detail about it
-
Do you remember what you were thinking at that moment? You looked very pensive.
that it was cold?
got me man
-
I love that picture with the background, and you looking down at the ground. Are you, or the person that took it an art student or something?
nope, thats my goofy ass. a friend of mine snapped the pic without me looking, or knowing

360 fwhp, 400 ft lbs. yea
it's a good time!!!
i think im going to stay NA. i'll be fine with a z that is slower than my daily driver. besides, it handles better!.
thanks for the update man!

Silent, not sure if 12 psi is enough for your 300rwhp goal but with the 450cc inj and the MS system you can boost higher than 12 even on the stock turbo. Make sure you intercool and have a healthy turbo. You dont need to stroke it...you can save money there keep the bottom stock and even keep the head stock. Everything else sounds great. Up to 300-340rwhp you dont really NEED internal engine work.
BTW, 2400 pounds and 300rwHP puts you in the mid 11's in the 1/4!!
I bet thats faster than your 400HP Hippo.
true, it would be. but everyone nees a 400 hp family car don't they? i know i do. for some odd reason
i already have the 3.1 bottom end sitting, collecting dust. dunno what im going to do just yet
-
um, im in kansas city missouri. no coasts around me. nor anything good to look at it really.
paul, i'll give ya a call monday when i get off work. we cna discuss some more stuff

LMAO…
Silent,
No I’m not upset at all. We just want to make sure you are happy with the end result no matter what route you choose to go in regards to your Z car. I was beginning to think maybe you were getting upset with me for not posting the pics of your N-47 as I promised I would do a few weeks ago. Sorry bout that. More on that further down.
As for your Z dilemma, I feel your pain. Your new street toy is spoiling you isn’t it?
To get an all motor L-28/31 to run as good or faster is going to make for a street car that is not quite as docile as your current street ride. Boost will definitely get you closer to your intended goals or better with less sacrifice in around town street ability.
SOOoo… do we need to shelve the current N-47 and start a P-90? We still have that P-79 as well….
BTW, your N-47 will be finished and ready to ship in a couple/few weeks, “but†that is only if you plan to keep going the N/A route. I should be posting pics of it during the first week in Oct. Sorry I didn’t get them up sooner. As has been the case this entire summer, we got really behind.
I wouldn’t blame you for wanting to go boosted if retaining the L-series under the hood
FWIW, if you think you may want that P-79 instead of the N-47 for boosted head, you better speak up quick as Ron Tyler has his eye on that P-790 we originally started for you and he will most likely end up with it if you don’t…
Keep us posted on what you want to do and if we can, we will try and help out the best we can.

naaa, im not mad at ya man. i just have the ole lack of money due to car payment syndrome right now.
im not sure what im going to do at this point. yes the new car with the bottle on it is spoiling me. if i can run door to door with a new c6 vette {they trap about 110-112 mph} and im right there in my lil ole grand prix? yea. thats the delima. anywho. the guy that has the turbo stuff isn't responding to me on a local z board, so i may end up just staying all motor, and putting the car back together and just driving it.
i really don't care if the z is going to be docile or not. my plan was to have that cr be mean ass hell, and shake at stop lights. also to scare kids. but thats pretty easy anyways

I think instead of having parts related goals, maybe you should just have an overall performance goal in mind-then just do whatever will get you there the easiest. Garrett seems to be making pretty good power with his setup, I don't really know the specifics, but I heard something about 400hp on the turbo? I don't see why that setup you listed wouldn't be able to get you around where you want to be after tuning. I like the idea of nitrous, but it seems like rented HP a little bit. I would like to get my hands on a kit, if for no other reason than to paint the bottle. I've got some good ideas for what I would do to it...
Is that crazy cam you got from BRAAP going to work with turbo, or is it more of an NA spec cam?
my daily driver right now is a 400 hp car {bless the nitrous gods} but it is also a 3600 lb tank.
the cam that paul has in wait for me is for an allmotor/bottle set up. crazy yes, but serves a purpose. i really need to talk to him. i haven't talked with him in a couple months now. im sure he's a bit upset with me. dunno
the set up i posted should be good for about 250 to the tire, with out changing turbo's boost levels may vary here and there. not sure. that was more or less a general thing i threw together
-
not sure what im going to do at this point, the original plan was to do a all motor/bottle car, that should have put it close to 400 to the tire on juice.
i think that might be a wee bit extreme. hence me going for about 300 to the tire would make the car pretty damn silly. with my turbo knowledge and ems stuff i know. tuning it would be easy. then again, so is nitrous. but, thats another 600 bucks for that. not sure what im going to do just yet.
-
i miss having a boosted car. and the whole all motor thing is a lost dream right now.
my thinking.
3.1 bottom end
p-90 head
n42 manifold
60mm tb
stock ext mani
stock t3 on 12 psi
intercooler
aeromotive pump/regulator
450cc injectors
3 inch dp and 3 dp back
megasquirt system
dunno
kickin around idea's
tryin to get 300 to the tire
or i'll end up sellin the car

set the needles rich to compensate for the additional air leaking in.
-
well, if the bearings are the same. what rings then? thus added confusion!
-
hey bud im gunna let u in on a little secret...i wanted that kit to they wont have it till about december or maybe later. they havent had that kit for years!!! sorry to burst your bubble... sum1 bursted mine to:wink:
my shortblock is several years old. i think 5-6 years old. im going for the basic rebuild. hone, rings, bearings. usual crap
-
What makes you so sure it's the zinc? As I said before, I'm running oil that has no zinc content, I've had 3 cams in the current head all with the same rocker arms, never resurfaced the arms. The rockers have about 250,000 miles on them altogether. Could it be something else?
hence the thinking part.
when i think it's either right, or wrong. 50 50 shot.
im leaning more towards soft cam core
-
if you get frustrated, i can offer up my su's, with mild work, ported n36 runners, for a trade.
-
i lost 4 cam lobes and over 50 hp because of this. on a schinder cam
anywho. i think it's lack of zinc content in oil that is causing it. our setups need this for the cam to survive.
-
i believe it is a msa kit
can i get the bearings and rings from them? or do i need to dig up some part numbers from where else and hope they fit?
-
Ooops. Midwest' date=' sorry bout that Silent.
We’ll post more updates this coming weekend, sorry nothing this week.[/quote']
no biggie man. i'll be sure to contact ya at some point in the next week
-
right coast?
midwest!
i'll call ya tonight man
-
how in the hell do you bend the laws and 110% ve?
-
"the motor pulls so much air it sucks more fuel then it really needs on su's hence the leaking shafts being a good thing to let some more air in to lean it out a bit"
Riiiight.
::shakes head::
nevermind, this is like pissing into the wind
build a 3.1 use stock su's then we'll talk.
from the racers that have run them for years, still run them, rebello, hurst, and other z tuners across the nation have more hands on experience and have helped me then some yahoo with a website

a friend of mine has a good transmission sitting right now. it's off a 510, still attached to the all mighty 4 banger.
im guessing the input shaft is different, and maybe the shaft spline on the output on the rear.
it is a 5 spd. soooooo my guessing is it may work in a z car. it has two ears on the tail shaft area which my z tranny only has one.
dunno
just looking for clarification before i go off and take it off his hands
