Yeah... he was 81 Black L28E on Zdriver.

14.4 @ 98 MPH... using a 3.7:1 diff... about 260whp, 300lb/ft torque.

need... to... learn... how... to... use... a... camera....

I've decided to upgrade the ECU to the Z31 setup' date=' and bigger turbo. Hoping for 350rwhp. We should see this weekend.[/quote']
Good call. I couldn't believe the difference when I swapped to the Z31 ECU.

I spent weeks calling junk yards.
Buying new is a good idea... but next time, instead of calling 5mil junk yards... use http://www.car-parts.com

Did you leave your headlights on?
-
Did you take pics of the setup when you dropped it in the engine bay? If so, post it. There's usually a way to "tweak" things when necessary. Was the turbo hitting the inner fender?

AutoZone sells several diff fuel line thread sealants... I can't remember the name of the one I used, but it's a white paste like RTV. It was about $2/tube.

1979 280z turbo??? Interesting....
In 79 it was a 280ZX... but the first 280zx TURBO was intro'd in 81... Was he doing a turbo engine swap????
You can get L28 & L28ET pistons from a lot of places.
Your local Nissan dealer...
http://www.blackdragonauto.com
and most any machine shop.

Skittle! Come on... a shop!?

nope

To go along w/ what Z-ya just said, I'm gunna share a lil secret w/ ya nategdizzle...
You can get Ford 370cc injectors for oh... say... $60-$80 for a set of 8 (usually sold in sets of 4) from ebay. Why, there's some on ebay right now!
And look.... slightly larger than those!

Please don't take offence to this Gollum' date=' because I think NOS is a very reliable power source. Who cares if it is a on and off power that runs out, it’s sorta like gas but perfect to run a sleeper.[/color']
I think I just might go NOS, because it would be the perfect way to get rid of turbo lag indefinitely and Keep drivability. I think I even have a nos bottle laying around from my V8Z that I never got around to hooking up. Hey thanks for reminding me!!!
So ya just gunna hook up a bottle n spray eh? That's how people melt pistons.... Be sure to post pics of the damage.

This was one reason that they rust through so quickly!!!!
The reason they rust so quick is because Datsun didn't use good sealant / metal treatment until the mid 80's. Same for Toyota.

How much more do i need to achieve numbers like the ones you said
It has been said several times in this thread:
YOU NEED BIGGER INJECTORS
YOU NEED AN AFTERMARKET OR UPGRADED ECU
-
What kind of "practice" are you going to do in the junk yard??? Do you have power tools available there?
-
Wouldn't the cheapest be to add nitrous?
If you're a ricer....

Using the SEARCH helps ( http://forums.hybridz.org/search.php ). There's only about 5 billion threads about building a high hp L28ET
We'd all love to type up a huge list of possible mods... but since it's all been typed 5 billion times before, there's really no need.
-
iam stoked on your clean ass setup nismo super sick cleannnnnn turbo driven
The reason... my L28ET has 2300 miles in 3 years... only driven on nice dry days, and when it's running right. DOH!
That manual rack should fit just like the power rack. I doubt there would be any mounting/hook up differences.

Standard boost on those cars won't show much over 0psi at full throttle. After I put a K&N filter on and ran the boost up I get around 3psi now. Didn't want to go any higher I just like blowing off the kids in the civics with big pipes and a fin. If you are still running stock intake trash it. I used a three inch exhaust elbow with a brace welded on to a convenient bolt and then bolted on a K&N filter. Set up works good and the car is pretty fast. They also needed a bigger pipe out the back.
WTF??? Sounds like YOUR turbo has a problem too... like evildky said: stock boost is 5-7psi. Attached is what the 280zx TURBO factory service manual says about the turbocharger. If you do the math of converting mmHG to PSI... you get 6-7psi.
newbie turbo question
in Turbo / Supercharger
Posted
Supercharged is a belt driven charger... turbocharger is an exhaust driven charger.
Twin turbo = two turbos.
