Bleach you might want to look at upgrading the stock Fuel pump if you are going to run 12psi. I was running a very similar setup and hooked it up to the wideband and found a nice 13.0 air to fuel on the top end. heh.. thats WAY lean for a turbo car. upgraded to a walbro and it supplies WELL enough fuel..
The stock turbo pump will still supply fine @ 12psi. A rising rate fuel pressure reg will fix that lean condition & will still be useful for later fuel system upgrades.

i've got a question. would one be able to use some larger (say 440s or 450s) injectors with the stock efi but just turn down the fuel pressure at idle with a fpr or something and then use an rrfpr to up the fuel under boost. all this while using a factory n/a ecu and 255 walbro pump. I believe that would be a simple yet more reliable than pushing super high rail pressures to the tiny stock injectors.
400cc+ is way too big for the stock ecu. If you do the math, you'd have to run about 13psi fuel pressure to equal the stock injectors at idle. It's A LOT easier to get a rising rate FPR or get Ford 370cc injectors & adjust the AFM.
-
Just get a rising rate FPR, or slightly larger injectors. Ford 370cc injectors work the magic.

The car is running on the OEM Nisan R33 wiring harness and ecu. Car runs perfect and is currently making the 260hp on stock boost and turbo, 350Hp and more with tuning..right now its all stock
260hp? I thought the RB25 made more than that stock...

i was thinking that after ive swapped the engine, id start saving to find a nice 6speed tranny that would fit. r there ne that fit?
I'm really trying to hold back flame-age on you bro... why the hell would you try to put a 6speed on an L28? Do you know that the gear ratios are VERY different on 6speeds? Do you plan on driving @ 120+mph all the time? How often will you need to cruise in 6th gear? It's so low that you don't even need it below 80-90mph.
And how you gunna mount a 6speed to the L28ET? You'd spend as much for a custom hookup/bell housing, as the tranny itself.... all that so you can throw it into 6th once a year?
-
nismo.... is there a reason you don't find a timing light & use it? You can rent one (and get your $ back upon return) at AutoZone... Checker.... etc....
-
Low compression/high boost combinations are a staple of the fast import cars. This is the primary reason the fastest turbo 4 and 6 cylinder cars typically put out a higher hp/displacement ratio than 5.0 liter Mustangs. I've seen a 4 cylinder car running as low as 6:1 compression and 45psi of boost.
I love it... someone that understands.

hmmm. how much HP does the stock l28 put out. how much psi will it take.
L28 or L28ET? one is naturally asp... the other is turbocharged. The L28 stock puts about 135-150 (depending on the year, and trans/diff). The L28ET puts out about 170-180 (pushing stock boost). You can safely up the boost to about 9-10 psi w/o an intercooler, and 12-13 with an IC, on stock injectors. You'd be over 200whp at 12psi. Other minor mods: Better air filter, big IC, free flowing exhaust, Z31T ecu... you'd be up to say 220-230whp. These are just rough estimates at the moment....
and what has to be changed inside the carOf a 240Z.... very little. Just need somewhere to mount the ecu.

yes i read all that but i was confused. first off I read somewhere you can use a none turbo 300zx ecu im i right? and if so wont the performance not be as good none turbo ecu wont retard timing right? second i have chopper wheel but no dissy yet so for now can i use the stock crank angel sensor thats on my pulley from 1981? will car run and just not idle? what will happen.
You can use the 88-89 non-turbo ecu, or an 84-87 turbo ecu.... but, as the first few posts of this thread state, the 88-89 uses a different O2 sensor than the 280ZXT & 84-87 Z31's, and some wires are different. I assume it's not discussed in this thread, because the focus of this thread is the 1984 Z31T ecu swap.
I imagine the car either wouldn't start, or would idle very poorly if you still use the 81 CAS.
This JWT page explains a lot: http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/wolfpdf/280%20Z31%20450HP%20UPGRADE.PDF
also i have 2 ecu's i know the one is a turbo from a 84 300zx how do i tell if the other is a turbo or none turboI don't have the turbo & na ecu part#s handy, but a quick search on google might help. Or check out AZ-ZBUM's web page: http://www.az-zbum.com/faqs.shtml#basic

ok. how hard is it to swap the l24 for the l28? ive never swapped an engine, and im sorta a nub wen it comes to cars. i no some stuff, but not a hole lot.
If you can use a ratchet & soldering gun, I think you can do it.
-
For that matter, the people that value a car with matching numbers probably wouldn't appreciate you bastardizing the stock engine like you are planing on doing.
LoL... exacto. But what do we know anyway?
-
can i do this swap with a 81 28zxt with the crank angle sensor? im getting 82-83 dissy but just dont have it yet wondering if it will work with crank angle sensor
um... page 1 of this thread answers that:
Also as bastaad pointed out' date=' anyone with a 81 ZXT (crank trigger ignition)set up will need the distributor assembly from an 82-83 year. The chopper wheel from the Z31 just drops in and take 5 minutes to swap. I will take a picture later to show which side is the top of the wheel.[/quote']
can the turbo one work on my 81 280 zx turbo? please help. i have maf from 300zx turbo.Dude... I suggest RE-READING the first few posts of this thread.... YES, YOU USE THE Z31 TURBO ecu.

Per Haynes Manual.... R200 diff cover bolts = 15 ft/lbs.

is there a pdf of it avalible? i dont have the ability to buy stuff off the net and have no ride as of now to the book store.
I really doubt there is a pdf of Maximum Boost.... It's not a short book.
Blow through is better than draw through. And it's just SO MUCH EASIER to find a complete L28ET, than to search out all the needed L28ET parts one by one. Save yourself from the headaches of "one by one" part buying, and the endless "trying to tune" carbs.

You get what you pay for when it comes to turbo parts.... why do you think it's cheap???
And I imagine you've heard this before, but if not... it's not as easy as "slap on a turbo & go."
Do you have a turbo exhaust manifold? Wastegate? Oil feed & return lines? Turbo oil pan w/ turbo oil return?
And not undermining your ability to engineer, but if you're asking which turbo will work, do you also understand the risks of turbocharging a stocker non-turbo engine? Do you understand that when you increase boost pressure, you increase compression ratio? Example... you run 10:1 CR na engine, and add 8psi boost, you'd be somewhere around 14:1 or 15:1 CR... will a stock engine handle that? You will certainly shorten the engine life....
Don't forget to tune your carbs for more fuel.... if you add more air, you must add more fuel....
Have you thought about all these things?

Sure enough it was a stock open. He told me I did not know what I was talking about.
HaHa... some people!
-
Hey Some-guy... you do any research first? I bought a Craftsman 2 stage, 60 gal, 220V from sears a year ago for $399 on sale..... shopping around does a wallet good.
-
would the n/a manifold mate up to the turbo the same ?
yep... thas why a lot of people use the N42 manifold.
-
My opinion... who ever did that needs to be slapped.

Does your school like you pulling up and parking in the lawn?
He prolly didn't ask... nor do they know...

I had a local turbo shop rebuild my turbo to be a T3/T4 hybrid... $150 labor, $200 in parts.
Difference in 280zx dished pistons and turbo pistons
in Nissan L6 Forum

He's talking about the early L28 dished pistons used for emissions purposes. They should be the same, tho the turbo pistons have P90 stamped in the top (kinda hard to see in this pic, but the stamp is on the right side of each piston):
