  1. I think the best part is the one looking out of the oven...
  2. I also have another question that i havent been able to find the answer to... Howmuch does the complete 240sx rear subframe weigh?
  3. What about graphite foam? Though, it looks like most studies involving graphite foam heat exhangers are all air/water...but, some showed efficiencies of 10,000 w/m-k or more.
  4. Thanks for the suggestions everybody. I dont have a top pic, but after talking to a turbo vendor, he offered the suggestion of changing the exhaust housing. My current housing is designed for the dodge 2500...Bullseye power makes a stainless housing that is significantly narrower. Between this and moving the entire unit forward on a long manifold by about 2 inches, i think i can manage. Should i be concerned about the compressor housing being close to the spark plug wires/distributor? And veritech, i would say you've been more spoiled than i have!! For reference, here's a pic of the dodge holset housing vs. the bullseye power housing:
  5. I've chosen 425 horsepower because i'm obsessed with big numbers and excessively powered cars. 425 would give me roughly 1 horsepower per 5 pounds laden weight... I dont ever plan to drag race this thing...it'll see some track time though, at thunderhill or sears point. Do you have a 2871 or disco potato on hand that you could measure for me? The appeal of the 2871 is the dual ball bearing...How much bigger is the gt30r?
  6. Here it is...the turbo is so big that A: It hits the wheel arch (one piece front end similar to viper) B: The exhaust housing is right up against the firewall. After talking to a couple manifold guys, they told me getting a smaller turbo was the only way i could work with my setup.
  7. Kilten one : Yes, i'm pretty sure i need a custom one. I talked to a buddy of mine who makes custom manifolds for ka/sr swaps into 510's, and he told me the only way i can make it work would be to get a smaller turbo The size of the Hx35 limits what i can do with it.
  8. Hey everybody. I'm in the midst of doing a ka turbo swap into my triumph spitfire. My original plan included a holset hx35 turbo, but after mounting it on the engine and sitting the engine in the car, i've realied there is no way i can make it work because the physical size of the turbo severely limits my manifold and placement options. So i come to you guys looking for the smallest turbo possible that'll support around 425 horsepower to the wheels. A couple people have suggested to me the Garrett 2871? model, but the $1100 pricetag makes my wallet cringe. Any suggestions would be great. It doesnt matter if it's a t3 or t4 flange, as the final manifold hasn't been made yet. Thanks.
  9. The engine is a twin cam ka from an s13. It has a completely stock head with just a valve job and minor porting. It sits on an entirely forged bottom end, including 8.8:1 turbo pistons. IT also has a cometic head gasket. Fuel management consists of a z32 MAF, 650CC injectors, and a RS Enthalpy tune. I expect this motor to make no less than 350rwhp in street trim. The turbo is a Holset HX35 from a '99 dodge 2500. I have a smaller turbine housing that'll allow me faster spool up time and the use of an external wastegate. Cruez- There's so much support for the KA into 510's, it's amazing. I can even get you the crossmember relatively cheap if you're interested.
  10. I found some free time to get my engine in there tonight. Please excuse the paper towels. It looks like i'm going to need a custom turbo manifold, (still looking for somebody to make me one). I'm pretty happy with how much of the engine sits behind the front axle. Still waiting to pay for my daily driver repair before i have more money for this project, but i'm doing all the little stuff in the meantime.
  11. They're for strengthening. We had to cut part of the factory bit out to make clearance for the engine. I think the 200sx engine was the ca-18det, but i might be wrong.
  12. Just some updated pics on the ka turbo spitfire. Just got the car back from having the (chromoly) bar put in, as well as engine mounts made.
  13. Would these parts hold up for auto-x on a 1900 pound car?
  14. What would the cost/ease of fabrication be for somebody make me something like this, minus the black piece in between? Anybody know of somebody i could talk to about it?
  15. Perhaps this video was inspiration for the new VW Rabbit commercial
