  1. Car is a 72, engine is an 83 L28et. Installed per Moby's guide with 4-wire Hei.

MSnS_E v.021s with relay board, tuning with megatune 2.25. I'm getting rpm, response from all sensors including TPS. However, I'm not getting a spark. I'm ggetting 5 volts across W and G, but nothing across B and C on the HEI module, is this normal?

These are the settings I'm using, I think moby's .msq?

  2. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Shells are cheap, sometimes free. Take this opportunity to do use everything you've learned the hard way. It's taken me years to build my car and it's no where near done, but if I had to do it again I feel like it would only take me a few months to get to back to where I am today and it would be done better.

  3. There is a place here in town that sells parts for appliances. I've used them to fix my washer, drier, and dish washer. I call the guy up and tell him whats going on and he immediately knows what the problem is and usually has the part in stock for ~$5.00. Try to find a place like that.

  4. I'd say this piece was built more for aesthetics than performance. There has been some debate on this site of what horsepower level is required before performance gains are achieved by a larger throttle body. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=119899

Also, giving up the webbed heat shielding is purely aesthetic and some would say detrimental to performance.

That being said, If you can get it for a good price go for it.

  5. Why do police give chase when the suspect is driving so fast? Isn't almost like shooting into a crowded intersection?

How did the kid get away? Just outrun them?

Yeah, at least thats the way I remember it. I just googled this story though and an article I found said that he was caught after ditching the car and trying to hide in a field.

  6. Haha me too. I can't help but root for the guy who's battling the odds. I'm not saying it's ever a good idea but there's a part of me that wants to see them escape.

I did like how the announcer says "it was clear he was trying to get away at any cost no matter who he put in danger" when it was clear the cops were just as willing to put all those people in the same danger by chasing him.

I agree, chasing criminals is pretty ridiculous, especially when you know the suspects identity.

    EX:

Bank robber kills another driver in head on collision.

  7. All those police vids shown on TV are doctored. I love the screeching tire sound from a helicoper view... because a camera can pick up tire sounds from 1000 feet in the air, over the chopper noise. :D Oh... and the loud tire screeching on a dirt road chase is good too!

This happened here in Kansas City. The kid did get away. However, he was arrested a day or two later at his house.

  8. Errrr.... Pics? Vids? Please! That sounds so cool.

DON'T use stainless for that. Stainless steel is notorious for galling when used in even a light-duty bearing, and a galled up throttle bearing=bad news. If anything, use a heavy wall brass tube, and ream it to size after casting.

I've cast quite a few things, up to and including patterning and casting an entire replica of the L24 as a fully operational scale model. Trust me, I made the SS bearing tube mistake already, and had to recast two TINY SU carb bodies...(Sadly, i couldn't get the detail required to get them to operate like real SU's, mine are just look-alikes) Total displacement in my model is a whopping 13cid. And you thought that the full size L-series could get fiddly up on top! :):)

When you get around to getting these cast, are you doing it yourself or jobbing it out? Doing it yourself isn't that difficult, and the learning curve is just about vertical. Once i get the rest of my car up and going, i may put the freed up space in the garage to good use and go for the DOHC setup ala 1 fast z, but as a solid casting!

  9. I would research to find out which version of the E88 you've got there, most likely it's the "better used as a boat anchor" stock version.

Don't know why you'd want the dished piston block in option 2...

If your head isn't the version without quench I would go with option 1. If it is, I would go with option three w/ larger valves.

  10. "According to a Road & Track road test, the 580 horsepower turbocharged straight six Datsun engine pushed the 2600 lbs. car from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds. It turned 131 mph the SS¼-mile in 11.5 seconds. Eventually, the engine made almost 700 horsepower which surprised many a Porsche 935."

This Modern Jun drag s30 is only making ~560Hp with nitrous.

Maybe Tony D could share some information on what the japanese were able to get out of these engines during the 80's. edit: tony beat me to it

I'm not trying to jack your thread or knock what you've created. It's an obvious improvement, that can't be argued.
