  1. I painted the front & rear bumpers flat black. What do you think, go back to chrome, stay with the flat black (in a powdercoat) or try gloss black? Opinions appreciated.
  2. I found a bundle of 24 on EBay for 30 or so dollars, lightly used 1/2", all American steel. Nice to not have to continously grind 2 or 3 to get different cutting shapes...should keep me going for years.
  3. I did the same thing and used my airbrush to gently lay in some sealer and feather in the spots. The car's been in paint for three weeks and you would never know it is there.
  4. Spend a few extra bucks and get a less rusty one. It can be done BUT do you really want to put the hundreds of hours into it when $500-$1000 more would get you a far better body. My rule of thumb is that the rust you see on the surface is 3X worse when you start digging into it.
  5. Look's great Jay, But my opinion may be a bit prejudice....here's a pic of mine
  6. Haukenes, here's an older pic of the front air dam, there's also a small spoiler on back. I'll get them painted and on the car in the next week or so.
  7. Thanks for the feedback, The cowl area is no where's near air tight. I believe the heating system pulls in air from this area. There's a 2" drain hole that runs from the cowl to inside the front fenders along with the holes for the wipers and gaps around the whole panel so I doubt I'll have a problem with the intake air. As for the vents, here are a couple of better pics. I had 2 sets so this was an experiment. I cut out the slats with a dremel and used some stainless steel wire mesh, it's actually from an old sterilizer tray. Traced out the shape, leaving it 3/4" big to bend a lip and epoxied it together. How did I make the cowl?? I cut out the 3 sections where the vents are and migged in flat pieces. Expect to do some body work on it afterwards...especially if you want it black.
  8. I'm putting a L28 in it with a polished up 6 pak and head...topped off with an AN fuel rail, AN rad / heater hoses, and a ceramic coated header, the block will be painted red. When you look thru the vent it will show off a bit of the "eye candy"
  9. Thanks for the feedback, yes the car is black. I had the window chrome powder coated flat black, the vents are flat black......you may be right to not introduce another shade of black. I think I'll spray bomb it flat black and clean it off with reducer to help with the decision. I'll post a pic when I do.
  10. Your right! did you notice the drip rails are gone along with the door handles, seam behind the headlights and b pillar emblems. The new rear quarters were welded on 2.5 inches wider (there's a small ridge behind the door).
  11. I'm planning on rattle can painting my bumper to see if I like it, if I don't some reducer and elbow grease will remove it.
  12. This is a little better, I'll take another pic tomorrow if you want more detail
  13. Here's a few pics of my 76. The vents in the cowl have been filled, front and rear stock bumpers modified and a screen put into the vents. The bumpers are still rough and will need more hours to be chromed, how do you think it would look powder coated semi gloss black? Opinions appreciated!
  14. Here's some of the things that make mine unique. Shaved drip rails and door handles, welded up the seam behind the headlight buckets, installed the rear quarters 2.5" wider (note the ridge behind the door), smoothed my bumpers, filled in the vents on the cowl, removed all emblems and filled the b pillar vent, powder coated chrome window/door trim Here's some pics, more to come as I put the car back together.
