  1. yeah, supposedly it adds turbulence as the air goes through to make the exhaust flow faster.
  2. YES IT DOES .. wait, is this good or bad?
  3. no one seems to have mentioned clutch masters.. i've got a stage 5 in it and i love it. its not broken in yet but the pedal feel is just like stock and it grabs hard! http://www.clutchmasters.com
  4. i am starting to experience a problem with my car. after starting up the car the muffler pops like crazy. i know i'm running very rich, but it didnt pop like that before. the popping isnt so much a problem as is the now sluggish revving. the car has a 10 pound flywheel and used to rev up and down like a motorcycle. now it is very sluggish. depressing the pedal results in slow gurgles and pops. here is some background info to some of the recent changes: 1) new transmission from '81 2) royal purple 75/90 synthetic tranny oil 3) bottle of "seafoam" poured in half full gas tank umm other than that, i'm not sure what may be the cause... thanks in advance

  6. J. Soileau, thanks for the generous offer. I thought about it for a second and I think it would be a great alternative but since this isnt my daily driver I think I will have to pass. The reason being I would have to pay to have my current tranny taken out and have the 4 spd put in (and ship it here too). For that much I may be able to get this one rebuilt or get lucky finding a 5spd. *cross fingers* again, thank you very much. Just out of curiosity, would a Honda tranny fit with modification?
  7. oh i thought thats what he was talking about. has anyone ever made either of these? it would definately be a lot cheaper..
  8. not sure what all i need to do, this is my first car with carbs. can someone walk me through? thanks in advance!
  9. ok, after JUST buying the car, my transmission crapped out driving it from austin to houston. i ended up buying a used transmission from a local Z shop for $175, no warranty. I had it put in along with a Clutch Masters Stage 5 (very soft pedal feel, just like stock). After much frustration and many trips to O'reilly, I found that I needed a new master and slave cylinder since the others were destroyed. Put in some Royal Purple 75/90 synthetic tranny fluid.. fired it up... 2nd gear sychro is screwed. It wont shift into 2nd without grinding. Now I just shift from 1st to 3rd and dammit, 2nd is my favorite gear. Since the tranny was bought without a warranty, I cant get it replaced. What can I do? i'm really pissed, aggravated, and worst, broke. just opening up the case to replace the 2nd gear synchro is $$$. i might also find that more are going out soon. what other options do i have? 240sx? 300zx? etc? What all needs to be done to make it work? This is what I know of the car: 1978 280z E88 head 6 into 1 headers 2.5" exhaust with Dynomax Ultraflo Dual SU carbs 10 lb. HKS flywheel Clutchmasters Stage 5 clutch '81 5spd differential, unknown (most likely stock) cams, possible front swaybar and lowering springs, unknown brand
  10. i want to get one.. but just the muffler. would it fit our cars? they sound awesome.. check it out http://www.bpmsports.com they are usually made for wrx's, evo's, and some nissan applications..
  11. has anyone done their home made version with the instructions on zcarcreations?
  12. so is there a difference between the cable driven spal kits or the autoloc worm driven kits? (or are they the same?)
  13. thanks all for the replies. the 1st link sumo provided pointed me in the right direction. it said if the vehicle is 2-24 years of age in certain counties (mine is harris) then it would not be exempt. i just did some simple math and my car is 26 years old! yay! thanks!
  14. that SPAL system is incredibly cheap. $110 for two windows or is it PER window... the system on msa looks very similar to the SPAL one too. how is the quality of those? has anyone here converted their windows yet? thanks for the links!
  15. its a '78 280z according to the title... not too sure about the legalities of all this. (my first "vintage" car) btw i live in texas. any help is appreciated! thanks, jay
  16. sounds like an awesome deal! good find. i was going to ask a similar question, since my buddy is getting rid of the recaro from his nsx. what type of rail or bracket would be needed to fit those? its a race bucket, not sure of the model though. i've got a '77 280. any input would be appreciated
  17. i'm very interested in the blacktop.. so this includes everything i need? i've got a stock L28 with cams.. should i swap it out for more power?
  18. if sturdiness is your concern, have no worries. my other car is an accord and i have a yakima q tower rack and i drove 150 miles to austin going 80+ mph with 40 mile cross winds with no problems. i've got a trek liquid 30, my buddy has a klein palomino, and my other buddy has a specialized stumpjumper m5. thats over $6000 worth of bikes and were all on my roof rack. we didnt even second guess whether we would make it or not. roof rack is the way to go.. but the hatch might be a problem. look into thule also.. they may have a rack for us. http://www.thule.com http://www.yakima.com http://www.sarisproducts.com
  19. I'm sorry.. but I have been thinking and thinking about ideas and your setup is the hottest I can think of. As much as I want to be original, I cant think of anything nicer. I've already decided on the YZ rear and Subtle Z front long ago so I dont want you to think I am totally copying your style. I guess, since I am just now aware of your creation and you did it first, my question is, would you be mad if I did the 300zx tail light conversion as well? if i were to do a tail light conversion i would like it to be in the Z family of cars and the 300zx is the only other one that looks good to me. Another option was the JDM 180SX lights which will run me approx $500.. way more than the 300ZX lights would be. What do you think? the color and rim choice are going to be totally different, along with a few other distinctions. Thanks, Jay.
