  1. http://www.dexmllc.com/ph308ss.html how about this one?
  2. the antenna has been shaved already.. as far as the markers, i really want to and i dont know why i've been hesitant to tell the shop. i wanted to do the drip rails but the whole unibody thing would make the amount of work ($$$) too much right now. anytime you are in town, let me know so we can round up a few guys! oh, i'm getting it painted "athletic metallic gray" which is a honda color.. its a dark gunmetal.
  3. the handles will be done shortly.. the shop is extremely busy everytime i go so i'm just happy its this far. after its done, i'll leave the windows down and wait till its painted to install it, but after the handles are done, they are pretty much ready to paint it (view my other thread in the body forum) btw, where in texas are you located? i'd like to arrange a meet in a month or so... (houston)
  4. sorry i dont have an imagestation album or anything... the last things left are stripping the old weatherstripping, complete gutting the interior to prep for paint, finishing the drivers side floor and frame rails and shaving the door handles. should be done soon! edit: i exceeded my bandwidth for photobucket lol
  5. i ordered this from watsons streetworks last week and i received it today. the quality of the parts look good. the solenoid looks exactly like the ones from SPAL. the magnet, as labeled is very small which is good. i'll have that magnet as my keychain and thats it, i like to keep my keychain uncluttered. i'll try to post pics after installation and when the handles get shaved. edit: i exceeded my bandwidth from photobucket
  6. so.. as a first upgrade, you recommend ZX dizzy and MSD 6AL? how safe would it be to buy those items used (say, on ebay or something) i'm watching that auction now
  7. would this be what i'm looking for? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7974966081&category=33615&sspagename=WDVW
  8. awesome, i'm always down for a cheaper alternative i think summitt has the mallory for a little over $400 but thats still too much for me! should i eventually get an MSD 6AL? i'll probably get new wires too since i dont know how old the ones i have are, any suggestions? i believe i have taylor 8mm right now
  9. I recently heard it is highly recommended to run a mechanical advance dizzy such as the Mallory Unilite on my Weber triples. I have SU's on the car that are in need of a rebuild (the car runs, but rich). should I wait and get the new dizzy first? it looks like I already have an aftermarket coil, but nothing else. i have a '78 280z... what are your suggestions?
  10. well i guess what it boils down to is just personal preference. the magnet is small so it looks like a keychain. i dont drive the car much if at all, and its garage kept. when and if i do drive the Z, its never left alone. like i said, i wanted to be a little different. different usually costs more (in this case, not that much more). i dont have a lot of functions to use, so having a remote isnt necessary. the security issue is a valid argument, but if they really want the car how can i stop them from? i know many people with alarms that have gotten their cars broken into or stolen on numerous occasions and honestly, it doesnt seem like a serious deterrent anyway. its more of a nuisance. also, sadly, my car has nothing inside worth stealing, besides a steering wheel (soon to be detachable) and racing seat. the only other benefit to stealing the car would be for the motor (which isnt all that great yet anyway lol) and trust me, there will be plenty of things put in place to prevent someone from driving away with the car. i appreciate your concern, but i honestly think this is the route i would like to go. that might change soon enough, but we'll see for now
  11. hey vinh, the original design wasn't so much a choice between electronic or mechanical, i just wanted a clean look and something a little different. since i realized i dont have the budget for an all out race car, i just want to build something fun to drive that looks cool. i still plan to have a backup mechanical pull just in case, but since there are absolutely no electronics in the car (not even a clock) that has any kind of amperage draw, i dont see my battery ever going dead in the near future. *knock on wood* as far as paying $145 for the kit, i know I paid more than a remote kit.. i could of easily got a spal or autoloc kit from ebay with 2 poppers and a 6 channel remote for $130 but i wanted to try something different. the magnet thing is something me and my friends (or anyone i know) have never seen or heard of before and i didnt want to have a remote on my chain. i hope it is reliable! whast your email address? i'm sure i'll be needing some assistance since i've never shaved my handles before
  12. I ordered the MagTech part# L20S (single door) and all necessary wiring and solenoids.. came out to be $149.95 after ground shipping. Mounting the magnet receiver might be tricky since it has to be under plastic or glass and i dont have any interior panels, so hopefully i can hide it well. Question: since I'm running a Hella battery cutoff to the car, could I run the power to the solenoids straight off the battery and wire a hidden kill switch that cuts power to the magtech sensor? this way even if someone knew how i opened my door but not where the switch was, they couldnt open my door... BTW, their customer service gets two thumbs up. very friendly and knowledgeable about the questsions i asked(i spoke with Ron). i highly recommend them, but i'll have to wait and see as far as the quality of parts! i'll post pics of the pkg when i get it.
  13. oh wow i didnt know dakota digital did that kind of stuff, how did you like their products?
  14. is there a way to contact Watsons Streetworks about their magnet system other than phone? (or snail mail) i'm getting my doors shaved today and i need a door pop system ASAP.
  15. I highly recommend the Clutch Masters... I dont quite need it, but I have a stage 5 and was concerned about pedal feel but its as soft as a Stage 1. Grabs hard too. Flywheel, I have an HKS 10lb that I believe AZC sold a while back.. it revs really quick... a lot of my friends tell me they never drove a car that revved that fast. with my clutch and flywheel combo you have to feather it just right but it took no time at all to get used to.
  16. all good points. i would like to incorporate a few things in the startup process, but not so much that it will take 10 minutes flipping switches and triggering relays. hopefully with the ideas learned from you guys i can get a pretty good schematic going. PopnWood, Sparky, and Tim, if you have any more suggestions, please feel free! i would like to know what people have seen that works and what doesnt. i know that if a thief wants a car they will get it.. its only a matter of time. i just think it would be fun to frustrate the hell out of them first.
  17. i'm not one that uses my horn too much to begin with so for me at least, it wouldnt be a problem but like i said above, the new horn button would be the "start" button. i'd essentially be switching the buttons roles. no thief would automatically think to press the horn button to start the car at first thought unless they knew how you wired it dont you think? one nasty honk from some air horns would be enough to tell me that someone besides me is inside my car which would be the cause for me to investigate. this isn't exactly the only "security" i have planned for the car anyway... if the car does get stolen, i would probably know who to narrow it down to. (i have a close group of friends that know how to keep their mouths shut so i'm not worried about them anyway) also, the cost of this mod is practically nil, so the swap of a few wires either way makes it seem worthwhile to me....i think the sound of those horns might cause the thief to go away, at least for that night.
  18. Z owners are so damn cool b/c they are so damn inventive. gotta love this board. time to hit up the junk yards (after finals) hehe jason
  19. thanks everyone for chiming in. to answer a few questions, being able to "race" them is more of a novelty idea. it would be fun, but almost unrealistic for this motor and my measly budget and i realize that. i was just hoping to hear that i could keep up with them on their weekend runs down the freeway i guess i'll just have to ride with one of them to enjoy it lol. all in all my ultimate goal for this car is to autocross it, not competitively but just for fun. perhaps one day when i have the funds and the proper car i can get more serious with it. i want to keep that vintage air about it, with a few touches of my own, which is why i would like to keep it N/A. i love the idea of having a car carbureted because i love the sound of engines and nothing beats the sound of triples sucking that air in as far as the performance, i'm pretty new to this aspect of building the car. but again, i would like to keep it vintage.. not so much that is just plain dumb, inefficient, and worthless, but... i dont know. its hard to explain what goes on in my head. this is my first time tackling such a project to begin with. so far most of my money and effort has gone into repairing the rust and other things that kept breaking along the way. the 2nd hour i became the owner of the car (its been about 7 or 8 months now), the tranny locked up on the drive home since the previous owner failed to tell me the car might be low on transmission fluid. i was naive not to check it but i was so giddy i assumed it was ok.. big mistake. 2 transmissions later, master/slave cylinder, new clutch, seals, etc. and many hours of sweat, blood, and tears i was able to get a good tranny and get it installed without a hitch (thanks to Olie05 for helping out and sourcing the 2nd tranny). there is soooo much more to do its not even funny! a stroker kit from what i understand is quite a bit of money. if i were to go that route, should i leave the E88 for a ported/polished/stroked F54? or should i just listen to everyones advice of "ok stupid, stop being so damn particular and get the !@#$* L28ET!" :) jason
  20. my original idea was to use the honda start button as a horn and vice versa. no one would really think to press the horn to start the car, and whoever tried to start the car was welcomed with a blast from the interior(optional) horns.
  21. OK I realize this might be a funny question to ask.. but my idea is to use the horn button on my Momo steering wheel as the start button. Is this feasible or would it be too much electricity for it to handle? I've got an OEM S2K start button just in case, but I think this would be kind of cool. I would also like to remove the ignition switch from the steering column and hide it somewhere else, is that possible too?
  22. oops, i meant F54. I have an E88, should i stick with that or get the F54? COZY Z COLE, thanks for that link. i was looking at that a year ago and lost the link when i upgraded my computer. thanks i will be studying that
  23. lol this is what my friend had to say about this: maybe they're making fun of rice by being super fantastical rice. so while we laugh at them... it is actually they, who laugh at us. they're still mad at us because we said they're not allowed to have an army. so they keep all the good electronics and cars for themselves. and find ways to ridicule us without us knowing about it. with that being said, those f***ers are weird sometimes. LOL
