  1. There is a guy here called Kyle that is in the middle of putting a turbo I6 in his zed. Here is the link. Fits in there quite nicely I think. Turbo an plenum sit pretty close to the strut towers though. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,5140.0.html
  2. Found this on one of the other forums as well. Some guys might find it useful if you don't already know about it. Cheers http://www.aircooledtech.com/tools-on-the-cheap/soda_blaster/
  3. That looks great. I've been thinking of doing something similar with smoked guages. I wasn't sure if it was the way to go but now I'm ready to head into the auto shop and get some guages. Thanks for the write up.
  4. They must have been a standard fit here in OZ. I've seen one in every 280zx that I've seen.
  5. Apparently they are happy to take your money but don't always deliver the goods or people have problems with getting the stuff they order.
  6. I don't see why it would slide or flex any more than the factory mounts. It just moves the mount away from the cross member. It wouldn't be a rigid mount like some cars have for track but in most cases that wouldn't be an ideal solution anyway. From the pics of what this is designed to do you get the benefit of adjustablility and the extra comfort of a normal ride because you're using normal bushes. Best of both worlds as far as I can see.
  7. Its not a wide body kit. Its just flairs and an aftermarket front bumper. I have the same bumper on my 280zx. The flairs and the side skirts really tie it in though.
  8. A company called Otomoto here sells HSD coil over sleeves that you weld on in place of your spring perches. You just cut/grind off the factory spring perches and then slide the sleeve over the strut tube and weld it at the height that you want. It has nearly 80mm adjustment so most of the guys are welding them in place so the highest adjustment is at factory ride height and you can adjust down a fair bit. As for complete coil overs, I don't know of any that sell the complete coil over. Some guys are using S13 coil overs instead.
  9. Yeah, that makes sense. There is a lot of load on those points and if you just have offset bushes it would no doubt spin in the trailing arms causing it to go out of alignment. I'm happy with the rear geometry at the moment and I won't be doing any really serious track time for a while at least. Never say never. haha.
  10. Try search by make. Click on datsun. They use offset bushes for camber adjustment for the rear. The site also has some basic suspension tuning tips that are useful for beginners. Ie, how to adjust for better turn in or to counter under / over steer etc. They also make custom anti-sway bars as well. The guys are super helpful and are just as into modifying cars as we are.
  11. These guys are in Australia as well but I'm sure it wouldn't cost too mucht to ship to the USA or elswhere. They are called K-mac suspensions. They make some pretty good quality gear. http://www.k-mac.com.au/
  12. One of the guys on my local forum has S13 coilovers fitted to his 280zx. It came up really well. There is also a local manufacturer that has made weld on coilover sleeves that fit straight on the lower struts. It costs $500AU for a full set including coils and helper springs. Not a bad price and very easy to fit. Here is a link to show you what I mean. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,4075.0.html
  13. Basically what it comes down to is how you want to enjoy the drive. Modify you car enough to enjoy it. Some people enjoy the modifying. Driving a zed is like marial arts or boxing. Drag racing is like heavy weight boxing. They can pack a good punch but can't do it for long distances and don't really have the agility. Track racing is like kick boxing. The matches can go for a long time with competitors dancing around each other waiting for a chance to pounce. Cruising is like Tia chi, You know they have the moves but they prefer to use them for inner peace and harmony rather than competing with others. Ahh. I feel so zen right now. haha.
  14. Fair enough. People have to start somewhere though. But I see what you mean by the questions. Its the type of question that is asked that tells you if the person has the capabilities to do modifications and when they ask a simple question about a complicated mod then they are over their heads. But having said that, I've seen some amazing mods that have been done by so called novices as well. As long as they find someone with the knowledge and patience to help them along the way. My comment was more about the negative comments that seem to pop into most posts rather than giving someone a nudge in the right direction.
  15. Sorry for jumping but there seems to be an increase on ney sayers just flaming people for putting their ideas on the open forum just because they don't match with the responding persons thoughts on how things should be done. I'm all for people trying things that are far out and different. Sometimes it creates a whole subculture and a wealth of knowledge. The 'can you turn a 280zx into an Awd.' thread is a good example. Just getting tired of people flamming for the sake of flamming and not being constructive. Steve
  16. Just because you prefer the 240/260 over the zx doesn't mean others do. If you want to stick to the flock and don't want to be different then thats your choice.
  17. Oh my mistake. I thought this was HybridZ where people on this forum try different things with their zeds instead of sticking to the same combination that everyone else has. I must have pressed the wrong button and gone to the wrong forum where everyone has a clone of each others cars and are too scared to try a new project. (By the way. This isn't a new concept. Its been done before).
  18. The 2+2's are all we got over here. No 2 seaters at all. That doesn't make parts easier to get here though. I now own 4 cars and I'll maybe get 2 good ones and maybe a 3rd not so good one from all of this.
  19. The GTR front cross member will (with a bit of modification:mrgreen:) fit into the front of a 280zx. The engine will sit a fair way forward though. So far forward that you'll need to mount the radiator on the front of the radiator support panel. It does fit though. A lot of messing around getting the right strut, axel combo for the front but the parts are all available and the project is doable.
  20. Yeah. There is a guy over here selling an L28 JDM SHOWA protocol high horsepower non pollution model engine. He didn't write a price down though. I'm kinda tempted to buy it but I don't really know too much about this engine. Its out of a '78 280z.
  21. Thats how I bought the car. It doesn't look like that now. It got hit in the rear end so I've swapped all the front panels over to another body with the rest of the kit and the bigger wheels coming and coil overs coming. Its the lack of side skirts that really makes it look out of place.
  22. My factory service manual says that all Autos had R180 and all Manuals had R200. Regardless of the year or whether it was a 2 or a 2+2. The ratios are a different story with a range of factory and importer 'sports' options. The majority of Autos had 3.5 and the manuals ran 3.7 although I have an R200 with 3.9 as a sport option. Having said that, this is an Australian manual and does not have turbo specs.
