  1. What size tires did you end up running? s130 or s30?
  2. Good to know you can afford a carbon fiber monocoque, the rest of us will keep it a little more down to earth pardon the term. Beta does good work too, I have not contacted him at all, albeit I have seen the products.
  3. If you ever worked with fiberglass you would know that perfect doesn't exist in the size of our pocket books here. Perfect is for f1 cars sir.
  4. I got a hold of Zforce productions, he has all of Dave's old molds from arizona z. He is willing to make me a fiberglass tilt front end (he has the molds for everything available on the s30 chassis). I will keep you all posted. As for the guy himself. Justin sounded like a nice guy, and I think he is going to be around for a while. I should seriously not be the only one purchasing said product(s). I am not a huge fan of the pantera look (hatch)he makes albeit to each their own. In reality for what one would spend on something like this compared to how light weight and the longevity (no rust) I think others as well should look into it. He will be emailing me about price and what the front valance looks like. Also as a further note. I got a hold of Thunder Ranch, he quoted me 1,200 for a 250gto front clip plus shipping. Both companies are in California I am in MN. Based on cost that is what is going to affect this most I think. That and the rest of the team's opinion on the product. ---------------- As for the rest of it my heads are finally getting worked on from Travis Knolton in bethel MN (his father just past and the funeral was last week). The woman is finally over her mono (to those of you who know) and is back to work. I start a new job on the 21st that is 7min away from my home, and pays more money in less hrs. Four ten hour shifts, Monday-Thursday. I am currently sick myself (not not with mono) hopefully that will not last long. The rest of the car is back on the road (brakes are done long story there, the car runs and drives with the l28 currently in the car{had to do a master, a bleed, a starter, a batter, and cables in the past two weeks}, rims are on order, my tires are already here) so its on a faster track to get to the track. I am hoping to have the car done this year for next years season with the rest of the team.
  5. I am looking for a rear disc conversion bracket for 240sx or 300zx na rotors in the rear with 240sx calipers. I live in Anoka Mn. Can I buy these aside through Modern Motorsport? Does anyone have something in my area? This is for a 78 280z 2 seat 5 spd btw. Scratch this, I am going to use silver mine motors. I just saw a thread here about them. I am running 16 inch wheels so I am not terribly worried. Also to be blunt they are in the states and they look relatively inexpensive for what you get. I will be calling them later this morning to ask about their rear bracket.
  6. I ordered a set (being shipped on the 16th). Gold 16x8.25 zero offset. 245/50r16 tires, section with of 10", 8.5" tread width, 25.7 overall diameter. I have factory suspension I am hoping it doesn't hit, if I have to cut fenders that is no issue. I just don't want to use spacers.
  7. Thanks six shooter, I know I can trust your word form the past.
  8. call this guy. he has a full fiberglass frontend that needs some TLC to be nice. Peter 901-239-0757 Memphis Tenn.

  9. Why whats up with them? Also they don't have what I want anyway.
  10. So it sounds to me that I am going to have to make my own front clip. I can't find one I have called everywhere I can think of. Jc Whit literally told me to fornicate myself... which was lovely. SO, unless you folks know of a fiberglass front clip I am going to need a hand in finding some CHEAP parts to start with and modify to mold together. Anyone know the least expensive fiberglass front fenders, and fiberglass hood out there? I don't care if they are a crappy install or need work, as long as it looks like it is for the s30 (I have a 78 2 seater). I would be modifying the hood with my own design of scoops anyhow for the radiator and forced cold air induction system. I have a wide variety of front bumpers I can use so no issue there.
  11. What about trying to achieve a specific sound? The affect of an H pipe, the affect of an X pipe, chambered muffler vs straight through. Any thoughts on these links? http://victorylibrary.com/mopar/header-tech-c.htm http://www.bgsoflex.com/bestheader.html Is it possible to "tune" the exhaust so that the v8 will sound like a v6? I think so to a point based on the configuration. From what I can tell the 4.3 vs the 5.7 sbc will sound the same with the correct exhaust seeing that a 4.3 is a 5.7 with 2 cyl lopped off. The difference I have found is the larger displacement tends to create a deeper tone. example; vs They give off a similar type of exhaust tone BUT the v8 5.0 is just simply deeper. That in mind what would one need to make a sbc sound like that 5.0? short headers, and h pipe and a particular muffler? To me it sounded like he used an x pipe because it sounded as if the pulses were equaled out. Seeing that an H pipe was used I would assume that the LSA on the cam was higher in the 112-115+ range making the vehicle idle better. Personally I am attempting to find the smallest diameter primaries I can use until it chokes the engine, also I am curious on if my plan to use shorter headers for sound alone is going to dis-benefit my motor. The header I found has equal length primaries at 17.5 inches which according to the headers by ed equation is too short with a 1 5/8s inch diameter primary (assuming 1 5/8s inch primaries are as small as I can go with out choking the motor). The recommended size is 34 inches. The motor is a 333ci motor, 195cc intake ports, team g single plane manifold, the cam will run from 2300rpm-6900rpm. Any thoughts or suggestions there? Btw great thread learned more by reading these three pages than I have for the past 3 weeks on the subject.
  12. Thank you for the link, and the patience.
  13. So I found out that the headers (from bbk made for a ford modified to be used on a sbc d port) yes, are indeed equal. Albeit they are 17.5 inches in length, the primaries that is. According to the length equation from "headers by ed" {(CID * 1900)/(rpm_max * tube_od2)} the recommended length is 34.2 inches. This being said, what is going to change in using 17.5 inch primaries vs 34.2 inch primaries aside from a higher exhaust note?
  14. are they of equal length withing .5 of an inch though?
  15. I am looking for sbc equal length 1 5/8s shorty headers (d shape straight plug) that clear the Jags That Run small block Chevrolet conversion kit for a Datsun 280z (mine is a 1978 manual) with a 700r4 automatic transmission. Any links and help greatly appreciated in advance. I am having a difficult time finding this one.

"To replicate the Ferrari exhaust note exactly will take 1) Single plane crank with shorty equal length headers and a short overall length exhaust system, (shorter length is higher pitch). 2) 180 degree headers of equal length, as short as possible with the primaries to retain as much high pitch as possible along with as short of overall length. This will get you 90% there. 3) 8 into 1 headers all primaries being equal length, again as short as possible. 4) Some mufflers such as Spintech have a unique of absorbing the tones that give the domestic V8 that old boat drumble giving a more distinct crisp smoother "raaaaaaaap" to the exhaust note with a hint of off beat rumble. Listen to youtube sound clips of c-5 &C6 Vettes with spintechs for an example. Not positive about diameter and it's effect on exhaust note/tone. Pretty sure smaller equates to higher pitch due to higher velocities, if that is indeed the case, finding that balance of small but so small it is restricting. Spintech is a chambered design, I dont recall if they offer a Stainless version, if so Stainless will last much longer than mild steel, 15+ yrs. Not sure how long the mild steel versions would last, 5 years? So shorty equal length headers that as soon as possible go into one collector, an x pipe, and then to a chambered designed muffler. Do muffler lengths and tips change the pitch? Im not sure, I would suspect it would, but only slightly. Most likely would the tone coming from the shell of the muffler/exhaust as it rings from the sound traveling within, most likely noticeable only standing right next to the muffler if..."

v8 m3 - these have a cross plane crankshaft. Love this sound. I was under a 545i today (same engine) they use shorty headers and a x pipe. I don't know what the deal is with the muffler though. I don't know if the ITBs that they run would affect it that much really, because I have heard vettes sound like this. m3 Header http://www.porscheboost.com//images/imported/2012/01/404364_10150626271018169_103189758168_11-1.jpg Does anyone have any info on this?

Yes I am friends with braap on fb as well. I learned today that the smaller primary give more tq and higher pitched sound. The larger the less tq and the deeper the sound. Also H pipe for deeper, x pipe for higher. Lastly chambered style exhaust gives a higher pitched sound as well. The original flowmaster 40 apparently is higher pitched. I haven't found anything else yet.

I just found this on the ferrari forums. "An american V8 with a cross-plane crank doesn't fire alternate banks consistently. The firing order means that you sometimes get successive exhaust pulses into the same manifold. In a dual exhaust, this means inconsistent pressure pulses in the two sides. Look up "beat frequency". When you have two frequencies that are almost -- but not quite -- the same, the difference causes a low frequency pulsation (beat frequency) that gives the american muscle car its distinctive low frequency rumble. The same thing happens in twin engine aircraft when you don't "synchronize" your props -- the rpm difference between the two props makes for a low frequency throb you can feel as an intermittant vibration. With pure alternate bank firing, the Ferrari engines have identical pressure pulse rates into both exhaust manifolds, so the exhausts are "synchronized". After that, it's just a matter of tuning the exhaust paths. So, no, a Ferrari type exhaust on a cross-crank engine will not replicate the Ferrari exhaust note. Some newer GM V8 engines have cross-connections between the exhaust sides to reduce the exhaust "rumble"." I also found that the 348 had a flat plane crank, I thought that it was a cross plane, so my bad there. I would like to know more about the cross-connections that are done on newer cars if you guys know anything about that?
