I understand the whole single turbo situation but the motor i'm looking at is a twin turbo situation. The only thing i'm really concerned about is the steering column modification.
-
When you guys are saying I have to modify the steering column, why is it that you have to do it with at V6 but not a V8 or do you have to do it with the V8 as well? I'm thinking the VG30DETT(though it could change by tomorrow) just because its cheaper for parts and repair things. For my install I was thinking about cutting out the inner fender behind the strut towers (closest to the firewall), installing the motor then put in a new inner fender molded in. What do you guys think of this way of installing it? And also does anybody know it the whole drivetrain will fit properly, ie motor, tranny, driveshaft, and rear diff?
-
The VG30DETT puts out stock 300hp, so I know its not a whole lot more than the RB26, but since I have no friends in Japan, considering i'm young. The VG parts are more easily accessable, but what's more impressive saying you have a skyline motor or 300zxtt motor. Definatel the skyline. Stony, you're just too convincing of a guy, I thought i had read on here that there was a noticeable difference with the RB motor in it. But has anyone used the turbo 350 transmission adapter and if so what do the think of it. And who wants economy, if I wanted economy i would buy a honda.
-
Okay, this is more than common question. I'm looking into doing a swap into my 72 240Z and don't know if I want to do the RB or VG swap. I'm wanting some opinions on what you think would be the best choice for the cheapest in the US. What I was thinking with the RB swap was get the Turbo 350 tranny adapter, since its going to be my daily driver through traffic and my Z is already an auto. Also I figure I could use the transmission mount from Jagsthatrun for the transmission. With the VG I would probably use the T-5 5 speed with and do an auto to manual conversion. Custom driveshaft and transmission mount. However, with which ever swap I choose i'm wanting to reach at least the 500hp mark eventually. I don't have a whole ton of experience and the biggest con I see in the VG is that there seems to be a lot more fabrication that hasn't been throughly discussed, unlike the RB which there is plenty of information on how to do the swap. Pro's of the RB -Impressive power scale and has a good name backing it -Can easily get a lot of HP out of it Con's of the RB -Parts are extremely expensive for the States -Motor mounting location using infinity mounts lowers handling ability slightly Pro's of the VG -Parts are easier to be found and cheaper -Better mounting position for improved handling -Can easily get a lot of HP out of it Con's of the VG -Have to make custom motor mounts -Custom Transmission Mount Let me know what you think. And sorry for making this so long. Tyson

Yeah, i know what you're saying, too large of wheels don't look very good, especially not a on a lowered sports car.

Alright, I'm currently doing an RB25DET swap, and stock tire widths aren't going to do the job very well. I'm either wanting to do Subtle Z rear fenders with stock front fenders, or the YZ rear fenders and the Subtle Z front. from Reaction Research http://www.reactionresearch.com/automotivedetails.htm However the only thing I have a problem with the YZ's is the fact that i'm wanting to run carbon fiber wheels, and the one's i've found only come in a 9.5 width by 19 tall. What do you guys think i should do?? Also on another side not i'll be running a carbon fiber hood, latch, spoiler, and a true carbon fiber dash, Xenon Front air dam, Motorsports Urethane Side-skirts (depending on setup) I'm not that big a fan of the carbon look, so the hatch and possible the spoiler will be painted to match the car.

Thank you very much, too many "mounts" thrown own there. But that clarified it. Gotta add more money to the budget now and fedex is operating way to slow, i want my stuff now!!! Thanks again.
-
Okay so wait, I'll need the mounts shown above and also 86-87 Turbo Supra isolators or motor mounts? (or are those the same?)
-
Thats What I Thought!!!!!
-
Okay, I'm looking at engines again because someone bought the one I was going to buy 2 minutes before. f-ing bastard. But anyways I have some guy claiming that there is a 2.5L Twin Turbo RB25 from an R33 Skyline, now is this guy b-sing me?? I mean I'm not going to buy from this guy just because of his attitude, but i want to clarify on this. Oh and its all stock no aftermarket
-
Okay, with the RB25DET swap that I'm doing, what size intercooler should i be looking for? Also is the stock 240Z radiator sufficient enough to cool the newer inline 6? Jamie was saying that I should look into upgrading my fuel systems, and I'm curious if it is the 240's fuel system or the new engines and if its the new engine why so? Since, I figure i'll do all of my performance upgrades at the same time (a later date), do i need to do it now to get it up and running?
-
Jamie T clear out the message box, you're too popular.
-
Hey, I would, but its already gone. my car didn't have the tranny but had the motor. sorry. Jamie, i'm in no big rush for the pedal assemblie so you don't need to rush the destruction of your z just for it. But i'll be getting in touch with. And thanks to everyone that has helped clarify all of this stuff.
-
Well, see thats the problem is I currently have an automatic, so that means i gotta go find a manual setup from the local junkyards or if anybody on here knows of one for cheap.
-
Okay, can anyone tell me what type of clutch assembly a RB25DET transmission has? I currently have a stock engine and automatic tranny in my 70 240Z. The RB is a manual, i need to convert the 240Z to work properly with the RB transmission. What do i need to do? Would finding a clutch assebly off the same year 240 work? Any help would be great.
-
Okay sorry I was mis-reading (thats a better price btwhttp://forums.hybridz.org/images/icons/icon7.gif.) But do you have any info on the pedal assemblies? Slave cylinders etc....
-
Okay, so i'm buying a RB25DET with the manual transmission. For those of you who have already done this conversion, what type of clutch assembly and pedal assembly are you guys using? The stock 240/260/280 or are you guys using a custom setup and if so how much has that cost you? Also does anybody know of any motor mounts that are cheaper than Infinity Machinings $450 price?
-
Okay, well you guys are doing a lot of upgrades to the over all car, I can easily see that getting up to +18K. But it seems that you can do just the swap, engine (including intercooler and upgraded radiator), tranny, driveshaft, and upgrade of the differential for a lot less right? I mean on down the road, I can see adding roll cages, guages, racing seats, carbon fiber hoods, upgraded turbos and general performance. But for the basic, install the car and get it running total should be a lot less, I'm guessing with my RB25 including transmission is $2500, the motor mounts are I think $450-500 (infinity machining), driveshaft ???, and then upgrade a the rear-end possibly another $2000. The wiring I can get done for free. So that total cost for the install is around $5000, US dollars. Then add another $1000 or so for intercooler and piping. So you're around $6000 for a basic setup right? Please correct me if i'm wrong.
-
There is never such a things as over-doing it.
-
Now when you're saying 18000 dollars, is that for the total amount of money that you have into your whole datsun or just into the engine modification to get it installed and working correctly?
-
Okay, i'm looking into the R-32 swap into my automatic transmission 71 240z. Now aren't the skyline motors AWD? What i'm wondering and I know a lot of you are going to say use the search thing and i have been. however, i'm curious how it is that you guys are installing an AWD transmission into an RWD car? And how is it that I can do the same? Okay one more question, the motor mounts, I'm going to have to use z-31 motor mounts correct? And the driveline should be the right length? Basically I'm looking to do what Stoney did with his z. Something similar, but of course better , if anybody in the San Jaquin Valley, or Kern County, CA who has done the swap or something similar would be a great help. Now I just need the money and all the other parts woo, bankrup city here i come.

You guys are talking about using a turbo manifold and intake from what exactly? Also if you running a four barrel carb with a blow through style turbo, the only thing the carb needs to do is provide fuel right? So why not use run rich through the carb to help prevent detonation. Someone was saying that the 4bbl carbs don't provide fuel evenly, but should that matter considering the air is being forced through it? One more question with the 4bbl intake manifold can you use any 4bbl card at all?
-
Okay, I'm sure that this has been answered before, but I've been searching for 3 hours now and can't find anything. I own a 72 240Z, what I'm wanting to know is if i can run a turbo or twin turbo system through this engine, with out having to run an ECU. I figured upgrade to a 4 barrel carb to help out with fuel, upgraded fuel pump, and upgraded to an MDS ignition system. What other type of modifications would i have to make this work?
