  1. Well, as you know, I posted that my R200 differential was leaking--it turns out the leak was from the bottom drain plug. I took the advice given from several members and did the work. Here is a list of what I did (simple and effective): 1) I drained the diff of remaining oil. Not good--there was only about 1/3 cup of oil left. I hope and pray that the previous owner had closer to a quart in it when they ran the car. Keep in mind I have had this diff for about 2 years and it has leaked a lot onto cardboard. 2) I removed the drainplug and cleaned the very dirty threads overnight in B-12 engine parts cleaner. I also cleaned up the threads on the coverplate as well. 3) I put liquid teflon on the drainplug threads and screwed it in as much as I thought prudent. Since it doesn't seem to bottom out, I was very careful and didn't over or under torque the plug. 4) I decided 80W/140 RedLine diff oil was a good choice so I filled it with that. The only problem was that I couldn't budge the upper fillplug. The diff is not in a car, so leverage was a PITA. This is not the best idea, but I pulled the vent tube at the top and filled it slowly from there using a fabbed funnel. The oil pours like cold honey and looks as delicious--no I didn't try it... 5) The results seem to be good! No leaking at all in a week and the diff is filled with good quality fluid. Thanks to all who gave their advice! David
  2. Should be a very enjoyable car to drive when it's finished. Your daughter will regret the day she took the Pontiac... Welcome to the Forum! David
  3. Thinking along the lines of "reducers", how about "power grooves" for your flywheel/pressure plate? Kinda like slotted/grooved rotors, only this is internal. Only $200 + shipping. I'll get it done for you!
  4. And you'll make my wife happy by helping me get rid of one of five cars polluting our front yard! Oh, what do the neighbors think? Oh yeah, I don't care! Now I remember! David
  5. The Volvo guys have a site called the "Brickyard Forum" or "Flying Bricks." Very tough cars and good candidates for V8 conversions. ipd (yes, small letters only)makes all kinds of suspension upgrades, etc. They are out of Oregon. Great company. You guys make me wax nostalgic about Volvos...and I'm still trying to sell both my 240s! My 2 door 240 DL is all ready for a swap--only thing missing is the motor and tranny, but everything else (JTR suggestions) is a go! David
  6. Jamie, those are very fast wagons. Get an ipd catalog if you don't already have one. You'll want to upgrade the front and rear sway bars for sure on that car. Maybe even a new computer module (300hp the east way!). Those cars go through brakes fairly quickly--check them out before you buy... David Lone, JTR has a kit for just about anything nowadays! Hrm, TPI 5.7L in a radio flyer? No problem with JTR!
  7. Nice area you live in. Houses with garages, what a concept! Is this going to be a 240Z or what? If you want a 260Z to play with, buy mine! Ok, I reread your post and it's a '73 240Z. This wouldn't happen to be a white car, now would it? David [ May 16, 2001: Message edited by: DavyZ ]
  8. So that's what the diff in my car looks like? Hrm. It does look rather large and heavy. Then again, the R200 is no lightweight either. Very good clear pictures Owen! Thanks for posting. I might run down to see if I can poach one of these in the local yard. David
  9. Hmmm, I live in the north part of Fremont near Union City. Do you have a Z or V8Z that you are working on? Have I met you before? If no, Len says he'll give you a ride--he's easy to hook up with and one heck of a guy! Me on the other hand...
  10. Ron sorry about the delay, but my mechanic friend has been too busy to talk with me. Maybe Randy from Modesto can chime in, he may have some good ideas. You could try to email him too. He's a Ford tech, but has a FI turbo'd 280Z.
  11. After getting all the stuff Pete mentioned, grab the trim (yes, I said trim) if it's any good. That stuff can nickle and dime you to death... Good to see you back again! David
  12. What city are you living in? There are a few guys running V8s here. There are many who only lurk on this forum and never post. I'm completely convinced of that. I'd offer you a ride, but the project is still underway... Call me in another year or so (based on the present pace...) David
  13. Good, because those things look like a lawsuit waiting to happen! Perfect for Andrew... Juuust kidding, c'mon, lighten up! David
  14. Uh, yes you did... but you didn't say "PRETTY PLEEEEZE!"
  15. Drew, I blew it when I said "site"; what I meant was pictures of your ride on Yahoo. I like the idea of a tunnel-ram sticking out of the hood! I would bring fear to the hearts of ricers everywhere! Imagine pulling up to a stop light with some cheesy winged Honduh in the next lane...he looks over and wets his baggy pants! Ohh, I like it! David
  16. Scott, do you have a V8Z? Geez, you're fairly close to me, just across the evaporation ponds... David
  17. If the 2+2's had them and Terry is correct, I'll for sure find them at the parts yard. Ohhh, I hope it's correct information! Hey Zmaize, let us know if they do! David
  18. Mike, as soon as I get the pictures back from the developers, I will get them to Myron so he can add and then post them for everyone to see. That way, you can download as many pics as you want! Sorry for stalling, but my wife was supposed to drop them off! David
  19. The headers will apparently work with the JTR set up. Look for a very long thread about headers--they are sourced from another company and you can buy the full length ones directly for about $175 if I remember correctly. As far as the MSA kit setting the engine "closest" to the firewall--perhaps they have finally changed the mounts, which used to be Hooker/Scarab mounts to my knowledge. The JTR kit I think looks much cheaper overall. I guess it depends on what you want. For example, I would never use a Turbo 350 tranny in my car, which is the tranny mount that MSA offers. Plus, JTR has plans and diagrams so you can cheaply make your own mounts, etc. I like that! David
  20. I'll keep my eyes peeled for one. Why are you dumping the hirise? Are you sticking with the TBI set up? Is tuning a PITA with the tunnel-ram setup on your site? David
  21. Congrats on your score! Try www.kaynor.net for an LSD brace to fit your car. It looks like a nice piece and I think you won't go wrong. An earlier thread (long post) dealing with the R230 (Mike Kelly) had Mark saying good things about it. I believe he was talking about this mount. Hope this helps! 22. The Tantrums look very mean on the Z. Maybe the RX7 can live w/o them!!! Hehe! Running a wider tire on the rear appeals to me. The only thing that scares me about it is the probability of having the front sidewall be wider (thicker?) than the rear! There is something that doesn't look right about it. I want as close of a match as possible. I bought a copy of Import! magazine which has an article of a very clean orange Z (and 510) that sports some awesome wheels. Actually, the wheel ads were the only reason for buying it. I may do Cobra R wheels because they are so cheap, but it's not my preference. BLKMGK, your car is soming along nicely. Hopefully we'll get some pics up in the Featured Car section when you're done. About the side mirrors, the MSA ones look "OK" when I was at the Natl's--still need to send CD to Myron--it has pics of at least 3-5 different mirrors and mountings. WAIT before you bolt on a new set! The owner of a certain Z (I won't mention his name) would NOT tell me what he used! This was for the sake of exclusivity. I found it offensive. His mirrors are from either a genII RX7, Pontiac Grand AM, or some other car that features a triangular window frame mount. I WILL figure it out, and when I do I WILL post it for all to see... David
  23. Ron, what is the make and model of car, and what is the engine size & type we are dealing with here? If I know that, I'll do some asking around and find out what I can. More info please...
  24. Man, that engine sounds absolutely delicious. Are you building it yourself, getting some help, or having it built by a shop? What articles or books did you use to base your decision on? Just curious. David
  25. No, not if it posted on the forum and it received a reply. Probably a software error of some sort--weird.
