I'm about push this in a lake..Plz help!?
jersey280 posted a topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280zHey guys, I'm nearing my wits end with my car (76 280z with a 78 engine n42head n42block). The P.O seems to have deleted all of the emissions and most of the vacuum lines (egr, pcv, bcdd all blocked off). I am having this issue now where i have back firing from the intake at idle (dozen or so per minute) and after warm backfiring out the exhaust and loss of power while on the road. Additionally, the car seems to start at a very high idle. The fuel system is all custom cell with -AN set up (pressure great), valves adjusted to spec, injectors rebuilt with new gaskets, pintels, screens ect, Vacuum was checked and rechecked including with carb cleaner trick. Timing checked, temp senor replaced, all connectors replaced with new, all new plugs wires cap and rotor, new coil with internal regulator (external resistor bypassed), AFM checked for any possible signs of wear or anything, shows nothing looks great. TPS looks good, engages when suppose to. I am obsessive and have done tons of research and I cant seem to figure this out. Can anyone save this Z from being driven into a lake due to frustration? Thanks!
High idle 1300rpm.
Please work posted a topic in Trouble Shooting / General EngineHello everyone. I've tried doing a search, but couldn't get anything. My 75 280z idles at about 1300rpms with constant misfiring throwing it up or down 200rpms. Not sure if those two are related. My concern here is the high idle though for the moment. All vacuum lines are less than a month old. My A/C & heat was removed by PO due to "electrical issues. Blowing fuses." My temperature switch (heard this could be an issue) does not function properly. When I connect it, she idles really high then dies. My AFM is new and was tampered with by PO, but I have it set at the optimal setting I think. Idle adjustment screw on throttle body is all the way down. Side note (note sure of its relevance): there is plenty vacuum coming off the intake manifold line going to the CC, but the small hose with the "T" in it coming out has ZERO vacuum. The throttle linkage is not sticking. Please oh please let your far reaching knowledge rain down upon me. Thank you in advance:)
Idling woes but not the usual (77 280z)
dashpot posted a topic in Trouble Shooting / General EngineHello, I have a 77 280z powering a 76 280z cali chassis. This is my real car project and I feel I'm getting close to having this thing as a reliable daily driver. My issues is this: When starting my car, it idles around 800-900rpm and once I get going it starts to float up around 1200rpm. Once the car is warm I can easily find myself at a stoplight idling at 2k rpm. Now, if I leave the car in gear and basically bog it down (let the clutch partway out with the brake on), I can bring the idle down to anywhere I want between 1k-2k rpm. It is strange that it stabilizes wherever I "set" it. Besides this, the car seems to have plenty of power and no other noticeable faults in engine function. This is what seems to set my issues apart (i think) from the hundreds of high idle thread most people are having. Is there something related to the heating up of the motor or FI system that is causing this? FYI - Car lives at 6k feet. The timing is set correctly. Proper AFM function (checked all resistance levels). I've looked over the vacuum lines to the best of my knowledge - my latest breakthrough was moving the vac advance line from intake mani to the throttle body which fixed numerous idle/power issues. Did a vacuum "delete" to just run the basics. Fuel and oil pressure are good. Does this sound like faulty BCDD function or faulty cold start (stuck open)? I have the FSM and FI Bible for those that suggest it - there just may be something I'm not getting. Thanks in advance. Rock the Dashpot
