Jasonmreiss
Got the front suspension out, pretty easy stuff. I have to get the car across town to a buddies shop soon, but I was getting bored. So I figure we could just lift it onto the trailer
Jasonmreiss
Got the rear suspension assembly out today, it was easy as well, just a couple sketchy moments as the car rocked around on the jack stands but I didn't get squished and all is well
Jasonmreiss
They're not Sectioned yet, but I did get the perches grinded off.
Jasonmreiss
So I jinxed myself saying stuff was easy.....grrrrr I took apart the rear suspension yesterday. In the process I completely ruined my stub axles . Even with the nut put back on to protect the threads, just a couple taps with a hammer screwed them up anyway. I searched for some new ones and it seems my mistake is going to cost at least a couple hundred bucks. Boooooo
NewZed
Which part of Oregon are you in and how far are you willing to drive. If used is okay... - http://www.picknpull.com/check_inventory.aspx?Address=97225&Lat=45.506451&Lng=-122.775622&Make=Datsun&Model=280&Distance=200 http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/pts/3349040887.html
Jasonmreiss
Pulled spindle pins today, or rather pushed......about a thousand times. The wife helped by posing for a picture. Lol Also I pulled the inner rear wheel bearings and burned out the lower control arm bushings Make sure you pry out the rear inner seal before pushing out the bearings. The seal is hard to pry out but it will. The bearing didn't budge until the seal was out
Jasonmreiss
By the way, do I get my spindle pin patch/t-shirt? I hammered my thumb 3 times so I think I earned it
Jasonmreiss
Cut out the spare tire well today. Making room for the fuel cell I'm gonna need. I've been waiting on my rotisserie to be built for about 6 months now. Funny because its a 3 hour welding job. He said he'd finish it up soon though lol. I am sectioning my struts next week and will post pictures of it
Six_Shooter
For future reference the best way to remove the stub axles is by the use of a slide hammer.
Jasonmreiss
Yeah I learned that after the fact Oh well, what's done is done. I've already purchased replacements. Next time I'll research a bit more before assuming I know what I'm doing lol. By the way does anyone know where to source new nuts for those? Six_Shooter
If you have 280Z stub axles you can use 280ZX nuts for them, which don't require the peening over to lock them in. You might try a Nissan dealer for them. How bad are the old ones? They might work for a project I'm working on. The threads are not really a concern.
