Diff new to me, is this normal?

So I just received a R180 out of a STI with a CLSD, 3.90 gears and supposedly about 25,000 miles on it. The diff. was newish looking upon visual inspection from the outside. I noticed when I got it on the bench that there is a little bit of play when I rotate the drive flange back and forth. Not much, but it's there. It's not present in the R180 I took out. I've never had one of these units before, is this normal? Is it because of the clutch type LSD? Do I have a problem? I can post a video if need be and I have not opened up the back.

Thanks for the wisdom in advance.

My limited wisdom can't figure out what "little bit" and "not much" means. Do you have any numbers? Degrees of rotation would be a good one. Video would probably be better.

By the way, I won't have any help for you after you supply this information. But I'm still interested.

Gear lash necessarily causes some play in the yoke, that is normal. If you want to measure it to find out if yours is within spec, you need to pull the cover and measure backlash at the ring gear with a dial indicator.

If you pulled the cover on both diffs and measured, you would find lash in both.

Why would you assume that your video is boring? That video is like porno for a z-car guy! My diff has slack too. In fact, the entire drivetrain has slack at every point from the motor mounts to the tires - and every point in between. That is why manual transmissions and drag racing breaks parts. Hoping to limit carnage with a line lock and a rev limiter to take slack up before clutch dump and going to full throttle. Best option is an auto trans foot braking it.
