S30Turbo
The cam I had in my 280z broke in half but I have complete p90 head can I swap the cam in ?
BluDestiny
It will cause lower compression and will feel a little slower, and the quench will be affected by the dished pistons and head chamber shape. Edit: misread the post, you can swap the cam in but if your cam is externally oiled you need to run the cam oiler Edited May 7, 2012 by BluDestiny
S30Turbo
But can it be driven as a daily driven I don't care about being slower
NewZed
Even the turbo cams are designed to produce decent performance when the engine is "off-boost". It's designed to work with a low compression ratio engine, but shouldn't necessarily cause lower cylinder pressure. So it would probably get you by, but would not work as well as one of the other stock cams. Plus, it's internally oiled, which needs to be considered. You didn't say what you're using that broke. And you left out the most interesting part - how did you break a camshaft in half?
S30Turbo
I had a internally oiled cam in my car . The cam broke pass the last 2 cylinders the good thing was that the lobes stayed up so my valves didn't break

S30Turbo
I don't have pictures yet it's at the shop I'm scrabbling to find a camshaft or for now just put the p90 in

ctc
I will post pics up later on today when I go back Depending on the failure, I would be concerned that the cam towers were misaligned. Did the cam rotate freely by hand with it installed in the towers? Where the towers damaged? Edited May 7, 2012 by ctc
S30Turbo
Towers were good .I'm Swapping everything from my p90 head over to match n it did rotate freely
S30Turbo
Luckily the machine shop next to my mechanics shop had a spare n47 head with a cam in it . The customer never came back for it am I got it .
randy 77zt
Cams break because some machine shops mill only the block side of the head if it is warped. Both sides of the head have to be milled. If you bolt on used parts with out checking them out by a machinist you are rolling the dice.
