RebekahsZ
It is time to order my mandrel bends, flex section(s) and v-band assemblies for my LS + 240z exhaust system. I've seen several pics over the past year of good systems, but I've been searching for 2 nights and I can't re-find them on the forum. I've searched the V8 forums, the exhaust forum, the gallery and the projects forums. Anybody who is proud (or just willing to post their pictures) of their 2 into 1 exhaust system, please post your best pictures here. Please list your mandrel bend and other parts supplier, too. I'm planning for 2.5" from the collectors to the Y-pipe; I have a Burns Y-pipe; then to a 3" single pipe to a muffler in the stock location. I'm hoping this won't become a thread for debate or criticism, but rather a simple show-and-tell of what other guys have done before. I'd rather provide my fabricator with a few too many bends rather than running short, but I'd like to limit thoughtless waste. I'm using JTR shorty coated headers. I used up the JTR-provided collector flange to make my temporary pipes - should I order more from JTR, or is there somewhere else that I should get them that will be at the proper angle? ktm
JTR 1-7/8" headers to 2.5-in. mandrel bent exhaust, merging into a custom built 3-in. y-pipe, then 3-in. mandrel bent all the way to a 3-in. spiral core resonator and then a Flowmaster 40-series muffler. My exhaust shop supplied all of the materials. I asked them about flex connectors and there were against them, however, if I were to have issues with exhaust leaks at the collectors due to not having them they would install them for free. The flanges provided by JTR are abolute ****. Mine were thin, warped and out of round. The shop supplied some nice thick (very similar to the JTR flanges) flanges. RebekahsZ
I'm in the middle of nowhere. Gonna have to order everything if I want quality parts. Can I get the number of your shop so I can call for a collector supplier? I never realized that the flex section was to keep parts from loosening...good to know. RebekahsZ
Thank you. What is current thought on flex sections? I want to be able to service the system plus I I A imagine I will have to pull motor in future for clutch swaps, diff swaps, sway bar swaps, etc. I also want to mount system in fairly rigid manners using high temp silicone grommets. I was planning on a flex section off of both headers before the y-pipe. Any advice?
zdlite
http://www.mandrelbend.com/gallery.asp?ContentId=70 They put it together in two pieces that are pretty easy to pull out. The tapered it from 3" to 2.5" to 2.25" so they could get both smaller diameter pipes to bend for the dual inlet magnaflow muff. Seems to take the carb'd LS2 pretty well. I did cut and weld a second exhaust cut out in the front diff cross member. Only has two hangers, one mounted to the front diff cross member and the second hooking into the stock hanger point at the back of the muff. With air tools it comes out in only a few minutes. The thing looks pretty stock from the outside. Not overly loud, but a nice, deep, mean growl under WOT Edited July 3, 2012 by zdlite
johnc
Don't do a "Y" pipe. Do an real merge collector like this:
SUNNY Z
Don't do a "Y" pipe. Do an real merge collector like this: +1 Flowmaster makes a nice true merge
RebekahsZ
Got one, johnc, just as you recommended. Pricey. There was a mix up and they sent me the shorter merge section. I'm gonna run it anyway.

gearheadstik
I too would like to hear it... I am about to do exhaust on mine and was wondering how loud are these cars in person? I kinda want mine quite where I can daily drive it without it getting too much attention... Have been thinking about running true duals to one side with resonators and 2 chamber flowmasters comming out at fac driver side location.. I know room is going to be a big issue... Fuzzydicerule
I'm running a spiral flow Moroso and a thrush chambered muffler and the car is quite loud, It's not unbearable but it is a bit drony, I'm thinking about welding some resonators in the mid pipe before my y pipe tbh
RebekahsZ
You guys must have long commutes. Im on a 3-foot straight pipe and it sounds awesome! Try driving faster.
Fuzzydicerule
I have no sound deadening and my rear trunk floor is aluminum. So that may play a large part in it
gearheadstik
I don't have the commute but want to be sleeper as possible on this one... I have another that's gonna be a drag car and wont mind the noise...

RebekahsZ
Can you shoot a photo from the side of the car so that we can see how much it hangs down? Thanks. I think it looks great.

RebekahsZ
I wrapped a header once and very soon I blew a hole through it. What's the latest thoughts about wrapping? I have had very hot floor pans with the L24. Was thinking of blowing the cash to have whole system ceramic-ed after it is built. I wonder if the coaters can mask off the flex sections.
