900ss
You can also use elec power steering columns to give you power steering (various cars use them with diffo designs) Fitted one from a Vauxhall/Opel to my 78 260z a while back. After a few teething problems it now works well Has the advantage of being able to adjust the steering from lighter or heavier at the turn of a nob Also doesn't use the engines power to run it either so no pumps required
Jay23
OH ! This look interesting, pretty wise, I guess the module is going behind the firewall ( engine bay ) ? Do any company is selling universal fit ? And did you use the original steering colomn and add this in the middle ?? Very interesting thanks a lot. Mike Mileski
There's a company called EZ Electric Power Steering in the Netherlands that sells a complete electric power steering kit for Z cars. I't about $1500 plus shipping. See it below. Mike Mileski Tucson, AZ

Yes mine still uses the std column and switch gear as I wanted it to still look as std as poss The motor part goes in the middle as shown and the lot tucks up under the dash without issue A control box is all thats needed and that fits easily under the dash aswell The only give away its even fitted is the little blue nob in the dash so I can adjust the steerings feel You start with these. std Z column and donor elecy column http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/900ss/260z/col2.jpg std 260z/280z column cut in bits http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/900ss/260z/2col2.jpg Motor and hybrid Z column http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/900ss/260z/2col3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/900ss/260z/2col4.jpg Fitted http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/900ss/260z/fitted2.jpg Mine is rhd, so not sure what odds fitting this to a lhd car would make? Might just mean the motor needs spinning to sit on the other side of the column? That is easily done

ZT-R
I emailed EZ. The other one is from japan and its like 2g plus you have to ship them a core so its like 3 months.
Mike Mileski
I also emailed EZ in the Neatherlands and here is their response: We supply a completely new steering column. You remove the original steering lock, cowling, indicator stalk and steering column mounting bracket from the original. You disconnect the column under the hood and remove it completely. You then fit the speedsensor between the speedo cable and speedometer, fit the steering column mounting bracket to the EZ Power steering column and refit everything. The electronics are easy and labelled, a continuous plus to the battery, a negative wire with eyelet to the chassis and a ignition switched plus wire to the ignition (or any accessory switched by the ignition....) You keep your original steering column and if you are not 100% satisfied you return the EZ Power Steering column and we will refund the full purchase amount. mrcheeze36
Here's pics from EZ's website for a 240Z install: EZ Electric Power Steering - Datsun 240Z Here's a video on youtube explaining the EZ PS kit (for a C2 Corvette): Here's an article about it (putting one in a BMW 2002): Power Steering for Classics Edited September 6, 2012 by mrcheeze36
mrcheeze36
Found this thread talking about the EZ kit for the S30 (thread is 2 years old). Member SeanDezart mentions he has a kit that's cheaper: Zclub.net - power steering Saw it last month at Rétromobile. We've got a less expensive kit for sale over here, one of which is already fitted to my 260. I'm marketing a PS kit for poofs who need/w PS that costs £500 less than this ez system and is adaptable for 260Zs as well. My 240Z and my 260Z 2+2 both have it. It can be turned on or off at will. That in my 240Z is progressive with speed and I have an on/off switch within reach whilst driving inside. That which we've fitted to the 260Z and offer is on all the time but with a variable réostat so that it can be turned right down to almost zero or right up for delicate parking or for those with (and I'm serious here) handicaps that would otherwise reduce or eliminate their Z driving pleausre. 900ss
How did the opel electric power column cost and where did u find it ? Got my used column (seen below) from a breakers yard. Used the elecy columns go for £50 - £75 over here. Make sure you buy one with its ecu, else its not going to work ! You need a seperate control unit which you can pick up for £30 up - dep on type you buy You can see it (small silver box) top far left in the above pic Mine is not speed sensitive, but tbh once you set it you get used to it at any speed imo The rest is diy and mates rates to get it welded up and fit your self on the weekend hths

rags
I ordered from EZPOWESTEERING.NL last Friday and had a package sitting on my front steps yesterday. Ordering from the Netherlands including exchange rate and shipping came out to $1520.00 to my door. They did ship me the wrong firewall flange but dealing with them has been a breeze and I expect the new flange to be here in a few days. I'll let you know how the install goes. ZT-R
Let us know how it works out. EZ said that they are changing something in November that will let you have speed sensitive and user trim at the same time. I think I'm going to hold off for that option.
