ComicArtist
Just learned this the hard way. Picked up a set of Toyota 4-runner calipers that were marked s12+8, and being under the impression that all these calipers required vented z31 rotors and machined hub spacers, I bought rotors and spacers. Went to put them together and the calipers ended up being for stock rotors. I always thought that the calipers marked s12 were for stock rotors, and the s12+8 and s12w calipers fit vented rotors, but apparently not! Just a heads up to you unsuspecting buyers. I haven't seen this in any writeups before, and now I'm either stuck with rotors and spacers I can't use or calipers I can't use.
johnc
S12W is the only caliper of that family that fits vented rotors.
ComicArtist
I was under the impression that the S12+8 did as well. Oh well, guess I'll look around for some S12W calipers and get rid of these.

Xnke
I'm using 1987 S12+8 calipers on my vented rotors. Pre-1986 calipers are generally for solid rotors, post-1986 are generally vented rotors. They do overlap some in 1986. The S12+8 caliper can utilize the RX-7 pads if they are appropriately modified.
sdm9785
Xnke, will the RX-7 pads fit both the vented and non vented version of the S12+8?
Xnke
Yes, they will. But you will need to weld the backing plate up and re-drill the slide pin holes.
socorob
I used the s12w with 86 5 lug hubs, rotors and spacers. I think the 86 rotor is slightly thicker. hawk pads were too thick to use, I had to get regular pads from o'advancedzone so the caliper would fit over the rotor. Luigymonster
Where did you guys buy your spacers? Links ? Thanks In advance
Xnke
I machined my own spacers. Took about an hour, but it is highly dependant on which hubs are on your car.
