calvin280zxt
Just insured my car and drove for like 15 minutes then all of a sudden a big backfire out the exhaust and its dead. Havent had time to diagnose much yet, has gas, fuel pump runs, injectors fire and it has spark. Stock turbo 82 just did hei conversion since it broke down last time. Any ideas? It sort of fires as if the ignition is super retarded ran at like 100 rpm. Any ideas?
loy
Check spark plugs to make sure they aren't soaked in fuel. If so let it dry out and try to start again. Check AFM?
BluDestiny
Did it not start again? or did you notice smoke or anything? have you taken the afm off to see if the turbo spins freely?
calvin280zxt
No smoke, didnt start again exept for the 100 rpm sputtering. Im thinking timing chain
Domzs
No smoke, didnt start again exept for the 100 rpm sputtering. Im thinking timing chain You are probably right . Do a compression test , that will tell you if the chain has jumped . Edited April 3, 2013 by Domzs
calvin280zxt
Solid compression numbers 1 110 2 112 3 112 4 112 5 110 6
NewZed
Can you up the idle speed enough to keep it running and get a timing number? Or get one while cranking? That's what I'd do.
calvin280zxt
Going to borrow a timing light today
calvin280zxt
The screw fell out of the rotor , but now i have no fuel or spark
Domzs
Where did you find the screw ? It might have shorted the ignition mod. or damaged the pick up coil . Check the dist. to see .
calvin280zxt
No theres a shroud it didnt damage the hall sensor or anything
Domzs
It's a HEI dist. , probably bad ign. module . Do your basic dist. test . You said no fuel , meaning no injector pulse ?
calvin280zxt
Its not an hei dist. It has an hei igniter. No pulse. Fuel pump relay clicks but it doesnt work. So i wired the pump direct to ignition. Its like the computer just stopped working
Domzs
I would try another ign. module ( igniter ) , it's cheap enough .
calvin280zxt
No injector pulse or spark. I dont get how the rotor comes loose then the computer just stops doing anything. Its as if its not getting any crank angle info. I checked to see if the distributer came unplugged nothing though. Time to hit up the fsm Edit. Fuel pump relay only comes on for the token 5 seconds on ignition. Computer isn't doing anything Edited April 4, 2013 by calvin280zxt
calvin280zxt
Efi relay functioning, no green light on ecu.
Domzs
Not sure if the green light supposed to come on or flashing with key on . Flashing when running . I would double check your conversion . If checked good , try another module .
calvin280zxt
No fuel pressure no injector pulse no spark. Its not the igniter. No fuel no boom...
NewZed
Havent had time to diagnose much yet, has gas, fuel pump runs, injectors fire and it has spark. .................. Any ideas? Compare your first post comments, above, to your last post. You seem to be losing track of what works and what doesn't. You have to be methodical and careful to diagnose engine problems. You're all over the place and not making sense, in just one day.
calvin280zxt
At first it broke down the fuel pump came on injectors, spark. Spark was random as the rotor was spinning. I tried things and tried starting it a bunch of times, cranked it over to check compression etc. Now that i found the rotor and fixed it now anything ecu controlled isnt working. Some time between the rotor falling apart and me fixing it something else took a dump. Sorry for the confusion it all worked at first
