texis30O
I am trying to get a feel for transmissions that guys have installed behind their LS motors. I am currently in the process of my swap I have the good stuff LS3, cam, and a Magnacharger. I am trying to plan out the rest of the build accordingly. The combo I have has been proven to put 577 rwhp. To me: Transmission is going to dictate what rearend I put in the car. Auto: I have a chance to get a built 4l60e from a GTO that was built with stall and internals. Manual: I have a chance to get a built T56 for a reasonable price. Rearend: I have been leaning towards the 8.8 set up as I think it offers the most in gearing and options. This car is a weekend car, toy. I would like to play on the track from time to time, and take it to work ( where ever that will be). I have ALWAYS had a stick in a sports car. I am being told that I can put the power down and still have fun in an auto. I am looking to see what others have done, and opinions. Zfan1
I am currently stuffing a built 4L80E with 9" 3600rpm Edge Racing converter into my 240Z, a tight fit but doable. Mike
Daz
If you are doing a diff/axle setup like Sunny Z I would do T56 all the way(I'm doing a Viper t56 anyway, I just don't have the Fab skills so I have to figure out how not to break stuff another way). Auto's are a lot nicer on the axles !
gtslo88
If you plan on road racing/ autocross then T56. If you want a mean drag car then built auto.
Dans toy
LQ4 magnacharger/4L80E/9 3/4 ford -4 link. Fab work front to back but was able to limit the cowl hood to two inches and got the front/rear weight at 47%/53% with me in it.
PLATA
T56.......................IMO is the way to go and enjoy to the max
Administrators RTz Posted June 6, 2013 Administrators Share Posted June 6, 2013 TKO600
texis30O
I am going to look at a T56 that was built by Late Model Racecraft. I keep going back to a T56. I have always believed a stick should be in a sports car. I will go to the track but not enough to justify not being able to play with a 6 speed....... I now need to sort the 8.8 conversion for the rearend....
texis30O
My pockets are not deep enough for a TKO6060
Administrators RTz Posted June 6, 2013 Administrators Share Posted June 6, 2013 My pockets are not deep enough for a TKO6060 I didn't say 6060. Read it again.
texis30O
Still would be around 3-4000 after all is said in done..... it is only money right? I am about to score a t56 for around 1800.......
Administrators RTz Posted June 6, 2013 Administrators Share Posted June 6, 2013 I was able to buy a new 600 for less than I could buy a new T56. I can't say I've looked at used prices lately, but I'd be surprised if the T56 was less, used for used.
Dans toy
With all the power your going to have I'd consider a transmission that has a wider spread between gears. It will be kinder to you and be more fun on the street.
Mikelly
My TKO600 will eventually back an LS3/7 based build. It currently is being used with the 383 stroker but is a direct swap with the right bellhousing/flywheel/clutchkit.
mattd428
T56 all day long and an 8.8 solid axle swap thats where its at.
SUNNY Z
Stock t56 will NOT last long on that power level. I'd jump straight to a viper spec t56, or a Magnum t56, or a TR6060 if I had it to do over.

SUNNY Z
or a TKO600? Haha. With that though, you'd need to beef it up out of the box.
