socorob
Does anyone know if the Scarab front air dam and rear spoiler is reproduced by anyone?
Scarab#157
About 5 months ago i purchased original scarab #157. We are planning a full restoration on the car. We are actually looking into re-producing the entire Scarab body kit from this car including the whale tail and the hood. We have talked to lots of "Z" owners regarding the restoration of the scarab. Just about everyone who we talk to or has seen the car in person says they would be very interested in a reproduced scarab body kit if we decided to make them. We are definitely going to be looking into this. I will keep you and everyone else posted to how things are progressing. If you have any questions, let me know. Here are a few pics of the car without the whale tail on. I'm planning on getting some pics with the tail on in the next few days and will post those up to. Scarab#157
Here are a bunch of pics of the original Scarab whale tail i was talking about in my above reply. I took these pics today, 3/5/15. We are planning a complete restoration of the Scarab. As many of you know, having molds made of body parts and having them done right, is both expensive and very time consuming. If there is enough interest, we would love to produce the whale tail. So far the response from people who have seen the car in person as well as the forums is to produce the whole body kit if we could. There is a growing group who are also pushing for the hood to be done (see pics). I included a couple of pics of how the car looked when it was in perfect condition and was used as one of the cars in the Z car enthusiast book. I also attached a pic of the 240 as it looked before Brian Morrow did the conversion back in 1979. Sorry for the quality of some of the pics, i took them with my Ipad. Any and all input, thoughts and comments would be much appreciated. Here's a link to a video i took yesterday of the Scarab exhaust sound. Music to my ears! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zL5qjuwNPnA Edited March 7, 2015 by Scarab#

gvincent
those rear flares look an awful lot like the JCR California Z Flares, I love those flares and have been looking off and on for a set for years. I never liked the front flares on the JCR California Z with the square headlights and prefer the Subtle-Z looking front flares, I would definitely go for a set of fronts and rears. Not a Whale tail fan I prefer the aggressive IMSA GT 3 piece spoiler incorporated into a JCR rear flare. wire mesh/screening for the openings are a nice touch as well. Here are some pics of my current Scarab set-up
gvincent
Here is the old JCR catalog and a few other pictures the JCR California Z kit also had the whale tail I have a bunch more pictures of different variations of Scarabs and California Z's
gnosez
JR Mitchell, who ran the 280ZXTT project for BSR, stated that if he could use only one style of spoiler for an S30 body Z race car it would be a whale tail.
Scarab#157
gvincent, your car is incredible looking!!! What exhaust is on there? Love the color combo you chose! Would love to see more pics of yours and the other Scarabs you have. I quickly found out that not one of the original Scarabs was built like the other. There are lots of similarities but every pic i have seen of one so far are all different. Here are a few pics of the original order form with the options on our Scarab. I've had several people tell me that this was a pretty highly optioned Scarab.
gvincent
Yeah there were quite a few variations from mild to really wild, i say yours is closer to the later. my side pipe exhaust I made is straight from the headers 2.5" pipe to a 2.5" 40" x4" Jones glass pack to a 3" tip chrome exhaust. I welded studs to the glass packs and used hi temp isolation sandwich bushings and drilled holes in the rocker panel the size of the isolation inside ring aligned the holes line up with the existing factory holes on the inside and bolted the glass pack and sandwich mounts together from the inside. All the off the shelf side pipes are way too restrictive this way I was able to have 2.5ID all the way. CruxGNZ
Scarab#157, where about do you live in Wisconsin? I'm right outside Milwaukee. It would be pretty cool to see a real Scarab.
Scarab#157
Hi CruxGNZ, from your location of Brookfield, we are not far apart. I live in Mequon. The Scarab is kept 15 minutes North of me in Port Washington. Brookfield to Port is 35 minutes maybe 40. When you get some free time, email me at pdane70@yahoo.com and we can set up a date and time for you to drive up and take a look at it and start it up for you. We also have a really nice all original Arizona one owner 73 240Z up there that i can show you to. Not sure what the plan is for this one yet. Here are a few pics of the car.
