240z LT1 T56 Comfortable Performance Build

Recommended Posts

Installed new weather stripping on the doors and rear hatch. Car is more quiet and it smells less.

Also installed LED headlights. These lights are really bright! This 240z did not come with relays for the headlights. This caused my headlight switch to smoke and melt so I installed a relay system.

Also my rear brakes were to strong and locked up before the fronts. I installed a adjustable Wilwood prop valve on the rear hardline coming out the master cylinder and turned down pressure on the rear brakes. Now the bias is perfect!

The 240z just got new Silver Mine Motors Coilover kit, adjustable lower control arms, and tension control rods.  After getting a good alignment the car handles so much better than the Eibach springs and tokico hp shocks. Cat sticks to the ground and makes me feel more confident that before.

I set my suspension setting to

Front

Camber: 1.25

Caster:  5 positive

Toe: 1/16" out

Rear

Camber: 1.25

Also restored and reinstalled all the body parts, Car looks complete now.

The Motor developed play in the crank bearing, that caused some knocking noise.

I went out and found a mint 1994 Corvette with 34k original miles on the motor. pulled that motor and swapped it into the 240z. The whole process took 4 days Including sourcing the motor to cleaning up my driveway. Car runs good again.

Then I installed our new Silverminemotors Coilovers, lower control arms and adjustable TC rods. The car handles amazingly now! Also very quiet and smooth. I made a little video of the process.

Finished the 6 point roll cage and front shock tower support. Roll cage came out Really nice. Getting in the car is still fairly easy, which was am important factor for me. I'm 6 foot tall so we had to make room for the seat to go back more than originally planned. This should make the chassis more rigid and safe in the event of an accident.

Right now I have an open r200 from a 280z. The car has a lot of torque in 1-4 gears. can roast 1 tire in 1-3 easily. Also can easily go 140mph easily. I tested 0-60 time and best I could get was 4.75 seconds.  So gearing seems to be ok. it's all preference. If you want more power you need to have an LSD. I've been slowly making a 8.8 rear end kit for the future. Hopefully 1 day It will have LSD and could use even more power then.

I only drive it through canyons roads with many tight turns so more power is not needed for me.

Thanks for the info ! I have also been  trying to figure out how to upgrade the rear.. so you decided on the 8.8 .. do you have a link or kit that your are using ? I have no idea what is needed to do the job . It sounds that one is the strongest and easier to upgrade gears and lsd ..

This car is setup really nice. It's a canyon monster. Handles so good! But still comfortable on bumpy roads. I'm running All Silver Mine coilovers, front adjustable lower control arms, front adjustable tension control rods, 1 inch front sway bar and 7/8 rear. All new bushings, ball joints, tie rods and bump steer spacers. Tires are Federal RSRR. It has -1.5 camber and 3.4 caster.
