77 280Z headlight issue.

Recommended Posts

I am having a headlight issue on my newly acquired 77 Z. When i turn on the lights the headlights are not on. When i flip the high beam stalk they come on but when i flip it again the go off again. i have checked the fuses and they are good, where should i look next?

Also check the wiring for the low side to see if you have a short to ground or broken harness, if I remember right they are exposed to the open wheel wells and subject to what ever gets flung/splashed in there.

Looks like a nice find by the way! Any plans for improvements or changes?

This is classic dirty-or-stuck-dimmer-switch-contacts behavior.  High beam contacts work, low beam don't.  Spray some contact cleaner in to the white plastic switch at the base of the turn signal stalk and work it back and forth many times.  There's crud and corrosion in there.
