turbogrill
Hi, I want to assemble my newly built engine but my head is in the shop and will not e back for a long time. So is it possible to put everything together and do the head last? According to the rebuild book I need the head before I put on everything else. steve260z
Basically no. The chain and tensioner need the sprocket on the head to remain tight
Chickenman
Assemble the short block. Just don't put the Oil pan, timing cover or any timing chain components on. Done all the time. Edited July 25, 2017 by Chickenman
turbogrill
I already have the short block assembled. Next step would be timing chain and oil pump stuff. I guess I have to wait...
ZHoob2004
If you set the timing mark and used a tool to keep the timing chain tensioner in place you could theoretically assemble everything without the head. Personally I don't really think it's worth the risk to go out of order on the assembly and not be able to properly check it.
