Sparky
hey guys, finally got the car running (for about three seconds at a time) and i have a few questions if ya dont mind. while testing the cold start valve for voltage, i decided to test the injectors as well just to make sure they where getting power. well a few seconds later i was turning the key to the on position..to find that the injectors where getting power without cranking...this to me seems odd...s it would more than likely cause a rich/flooding condition as the motor is not being started...and fuel is being sprayed into the manifold anyway. i also noticed that both connectors for the injector where getting voltage...not just one. i thought that the injectors only got voltage when the ECU got a (-) coil trigger....and also thought that the injectors where supose to get power from only one side of the connector...not both ( as in one is ground...the other is +) can someone please point me in the right direction! thanks in advance! Lockjaw
I would think injectors have power in the on position because that is the position the key is in when the car would be running after cranked. Am I missing something? I have not ever checked mine.
SleeperZ
The injectors are connected to the + side of the battery (through fusible link and relay). The ECU will trigger them by applying a - to the other side of the injector bank (3 at a time, batch injection). To test the injector firing, put a test light to the side not connected to the +, and see if it pulses while cranking.
Cruez
I had a time getting mine running after rebuilding....sounded like the same problem.... I accidentally leaned on the cold start injector while the g/f hit the key and it fired right up...as soon as I took my hand off it...it would shut off...even after warming up.. So I just took all the injector wires off again and cleaned them all...worked fine after that..but it didn't want to run very good if the CSI was unplugged.. For some reason that FI system did not act like the other one I had...I think the '78 FI was the one what acted funny...the one on the '77 had quite a few differences..
