Guest thinkmonkey
I was just down at the Mitsubish dealership today and saw the new Evo VIII. I went because I had just seen an Evo VI clone (fake, just a FWD lancer with some expensive JDM shat) on the streets. Anyway, this thing is mean! It's in limited numbers, but they will definately be pounding the streets and prowling after rice (easy kill) and american iron who maybe can't launch as easily (for them, rev and drop the clutch, let the awd do the rest). To show how serious Mitsubishi is about this cars performance as a flagship car, and how little sales matter comparatively, this is a quote from their info packet. "Are you seriously thinking about buying this car? You might want to think twice. The Lancer Evolution VIII isn't for everybody. The high performance nature of this vehicle demands a greater level of maintenance and care. The high-friction, soft compound Yokohama Advan tires need to be rotated every 5000 (the sales guy said replaced every 10,000) miles . . . Because that, gentlemen, is what separates the men from the boys." Dang, they're marketing department has some balls. -David

fl327
yes the awd turbo sedan wars have begun, it is time we all beefed up our arsenal. this car is packing 270hp and 273 tq@3800. it can drop the hammer and hook out the hole at any rpm thanx to it having sensors that detect actual wheelspeed to modulate the activation of the awd differentials. GO TO WORK.
SleeperZ
Someone in the Denver area said there were two locally, and posted a scanned picture of the sticker... http://members.wcox.com/bedlam/evosticker.jpg Can you say OUCH!
Sumo
Well now we need someone to work on an AWD V8 Z
Guest TBroZ
Had a guy post a pic on our No. Cal Turbo Buicks Club email showing a sticker with a $20,000 mark up on the EVO-VIII! Personally, I'd take the awd Subaru WRX Sti...300 hp.

Z8
This thought has occurred to me in the dark hours of the night, or after a few beers. I wonder if you could lift the drive train from a Diamond star car and graft it in?? anyboby have any ideas?
fl327
maybe the subaru awd would be more adaptable, if you look closely at the rear suspension, they still have r160's in there, or maybe an r180 back there, HITACHI makes their diffs too....... Guest thinkmonkey
This always seems to be the missing link in tuner cars, and AWD V8 homebuilt. I think Mitsu/Scoobies all have their engines sitting on the transaxle and then a driveshaft running to the rear wheels if you check the AWD option. This type of setup is unreasonably complicated for something like a Z. A better approach would be like the skylines where AWD is optional and RWD is standard. This would entail more of a traditional 4WD style layout with a transfer case/center diff and front/rear diffs. Just imagine transmission linked to a split torque center diff that sends most of the power to the rear LSD unless slip is detected, ala Lamborghini AWD cars. Not as good a setup as the Skyline (it uses active electronic differentials with accelerometers and Super-HICAS, instead of slower mechanical diffs) but it would kick ass to rally a V8 car. I agree on the WRX STI. 2.5 liter boxer, more power/torque, active center differential (send the power 65% to the rear wheels), g-metered power adjustments, and the coolest is a factory fully integrated roll bar! -David
