hey guys i finally got the z running and man i love it.I'm only boosting 6psi cuz of the engine break in but it hauls a$$ now.So here is the story........ i took the car to work this morning and after work of course i came home but i see this black ducati so i'm like hmmm i get closer and it's one of the guys i have ridden with before on my ninja so i get beside him to say hi cuz he has never seen the z.Well we get stopped at the light and of course it's him in one lane and me in the other. He still doesn't look so i'm like ok i'll get his attention  So the light turns and he takes off kinda fast so i get all excited and dump the clutch at low rpm and bog it big time, feeling like an a$$ i just push the little petal to the floor and pshhhhhhhhh boosts to 6psi and the rear tires break loose i hit about 4and a half 5 grand on the tach and shift to second tire spinning again and totally reeling him fast i get next to him and we both let off he looked over with this look on his face it was great. :D So i had to pull in to my house to let me dog out and i hear this pshhhh noise but not turbo sounded like maybe a paint can with the button stuck :?: So i stop the car in the dirve way and shut it off and look under the dash and see the old hoses for the heater core are leaking so i just disconnect them and rout past it until i can fix it.Well i went back out to get some gas and i see him sitting in a lot talking to my friends so i stop and he's like that thing is fast and i say yep and that's only 6psi wait for 20

hehe...id imagine a civic could outrun a ducati...they arent exactly fast :)

But its always impressive when a cage beats a bike...regardless of the circumstances!

a friend of mine's dad has a ducati...(grrr I cant remember the model number now...) anway supposedly it is straight from italy and very few were made and it is some racing edition that does 0-60 in 1.8 seconds...that must be scary.

Guest Your Car is Slow

right...I doubt even WSB ducatis do 60 in less than 2 seconds.

not enough wheelbase.

99% of the info that comes out of a ducati owners mouth isnt what he experienced...its what he read :)

Guest Thurem

Most literbikes will do 0-60 in about 2.4 seconds. This is about as fast as possible without altering wheelbase and rideheight, and wheeliebar. By the way thats in first gear all the way, if you have to shift the time goes up to about 4 seconds. In case you're wondering, it's a Honda CBR 929 RR in the little picture. It was customized first by the previous owner and a truck, I just finished it off with 2 chrome headlights and a nice paintjob.

Here in lies the problem with people and toys... I had a kid tell my stepson that his 93 GSXR600 would DUST any bike in town, including my ZX9R... Then I found out that not only was it bone stock, but that the kid had been riding this bike (His first) for only 6 months. I just laughed...

Ducati's are known to be slow and heavy. and only the 996/998/999 sereis are "Quick". I was waiting for Thurem to comment since he is a bike Mechanic by trade... I'm sure he has heard tons of stupid stories...

Of all the stupidness out on the web, if you guys want some entertainment sometime, go out to ANY of the sportbike web pages and read the stupidity posted on those boards...

Makes me feel REALY GOOD about what we have here!

Yeah,

Ducs arent real fast but they look so damn good!

I unloaded my FJ1200 last year, much to my regret, but it was starting to give me low back pain when I rode it, (staying all hunched over) I loved just rolling the throttle on when moving about 15-20, hits the power band, gently lifts the front, then hit 2nd, same thing, move quickly past 80, hit 3rd, still pulling hard, hit 4th, up past 115, hit 5th, move quickly up to about 145, then I just had to let off...just a little fast for a bike, but with a grin from ear to ear...definately one of the best bikes that Ive owned, and I started riding at about 9 years old, hmmm am 42 now...but still wish I had it back!

FJ1200 is one of my all time favorite rides... My ZX9R is probably as agressive a riding style I'd want. I can drag my knee on the tarmac and ride all day with the Mrs. on the back without pain. I can also knock down 50MPG and NOT baby it. However, That will change over the winter when we do a stage three and some other tweeks... :D

I've only had the balls to hold onto mine for a 165 MPH (Speedo indicated) blast once, but it still had PLENTY of pull when I started running out of space!

Sport Bikes... Got to love them! :D

That's just too cool. I wish my Z was fast. :? I'd be willing to run you on my bike, though Scottiemiz... I love my FJ! Best run, 11.57 @ 122. Usually runs 11.60's at 115, but a slight tail wind that day made a HUGE difference in mph. 0-60 in 2.8. I'm real easy with the clutch since I don't want to work on it. I'm surprised that your 1200 gave you back pain? Getting rid of the stock seat for a Corbin makes a big difference. I have a 1200cc Wiseco big bore kit but refuse to take it apart until it nees it, and hopefully with 25k on the clock that will be awhile! My next mod is a set of Performance Machine 320mm floating front rotors, CNC calipers, and polished master. Have them in a box just waiting. I already did the clutch master since my OEM one crapped out. Designed for a 1200, they don't have mirror mounts, but I adapted some GPz 900 mirrors to bolt on with the windshield bolts. Here's a couple of pics, one with the Corbin gunfighter saddle and one with the the gunfighter and lady saddle.

it wasn't the big dog ducati's it was just a two cyl one with out the fairing on front but still a nice bike.I have a 750 ninja it's an 88 but i love it.I'll have to see what she runs in the quarter after the mods i did this year and see if th illusive 11's are in my sight.According to my mph of my times i should have been into the mid 12's but i was runing street tires and pump gas but it's how i like to run.I was just impressed that with 6 psi i beat a bike  can't wait for 20psi
