what i need to build a 12-13 sec l28et

i know this has probably been answered a few times but the searching for hours and watery eyes are getting to me so i decided to post a new thread. i was wondering what i need to run a 12-13 sec l28et in a 71 240z. currently i have the stock engine but searching for a l28et. what would i need to do? as much as posssible stay with stock internals and keep cost affordable (i know 12-13 second are the most "afforadale" cars but as affordable as possible) any and all help is appreiated. how do make custom IC piping? and where and how do i mount it?

Stock motor: Upgraded exhaust, fuel system, turbo, intercooler and a reliable engine management system.

That's for solid twelves. You can run 13s on stock everything, just up the boost with an intercooler (or NOT, check out Jersey...)

check that Jersey guy out, he ran a low 13 with no ic and 10psi on stock everything in a 240z, man that extra 400 some odd lbs from the 280z-zx is really starting to show. that low 13 is one good piece of drivin..

i know guys that dyno 280-300hp to the wheels with hybrid turbos and a bunch more stuff that run the exact same times, and mph!!!!!

if it werent for the video-id holler BS in a minute.

 

I basically walked my car into a high 14, no IC and 7psi in 83 degree weather, and a hatch full of tools, a 3 ton jack, 10inch bazooka sub, and clothes. i know a mid 14 is possible once i empty that stuff out, and a low 14 is possible when i strap the DR's on one time and launch the sucker,

im looking for a mid-high 13 and close to 100mph once i turn up boost, now I have FMIC. ill officially close the summer session on this car when i do that, and go into almost strictly body work, and make a 70s car, well, look like a 70s car.

 

in a 240z, if youre not afraid to flog it and you do your install right and youre efi is rockin, it looks like 12s should be kinda easy with stock management running well, see how long you can keep the positive cable attached.

If you can get the factory ECM to work well on the car, pull clean to 6000rpm. I would use a hi-pressure fuel pump (MSD2225 $100.00) A boost sensitive fuel regulator that brings up pressure "on boost" and maybe a small TO4B upgrade A "S" trim. A intercooler would be a good idea but if you keep it on race gas boosting between 14-16psi I'll bet 13 sec ET's would be a easy task. You got to get the fuel pressure just right to keep it rich and safe timing is a must. If you budget doesnt allow for a turbo upgrade boost the stock T3 up C17 race fuel. The race fuel is gonna keep you from kiling the egine a intercooler will help you run more timing and safer boost, but race gas is a good idea and a secret to keeping it alive. If you need help on the parts let me know.

im gonna take a couple runs at a conservatively set higher boost setting with my current t3, NPR, and stock dp connected to a press bend 3" exhaust, with a weight closer to 2800lbs, drag radials, and a different clutch, and a harder takeoff i should be seeing low 14 and maybe break into the 13s, this is just turning up the boost and playing with my fuel pressure as my setup is right now, with some tuning.

 

i will still be taking a break (starting the body work) while i prep the car for the new turbo setup

with the external wastegate and a 45 degree dp that i will try to expand to 3" as early in the piping as i can, a huge bb turbo :evil::D race gas, and probably the same timing maybe a little more retard dialed in, and some kind of ignition helper box. im thinking low 13s with this setup. im thinking my stock efi is gonna really hate me and top out at this point, and im undecided on what to do afterwards, but haltec is starting to look juicy. then sky is the limit.

thanks for all the help guys and when i find an engine nd finish my swap ill be back looking for more pointers. and alex it looks like your in socal area so if i need help with parts ill let you know cause i probably will. thanks again any and all help is apprieciated.!

HAHA. Just fooling around tonight and decided to do a search and found this post. Ready to call me out, eh FL??? LOL! If i didn't have video i probably wouldn't believe it myself! :) John, thanks for the kind words. I just drive like you guys - foot to the firewall and shift like a mutha.... all at the ripe old age of 36 :wink::twisted:
