How to tell if they're spraying?

I know it's possible to make a nitrous system hard to find, but are there any ways of checking someone out before you race them to know for sure whether or not they're juicing? I've heard guys on here talk about white residue in the exhuast tip...but, couldn't it be scrubbed away fairly easily? If they pop the hood, what should I look for on a fuel injected vehicle...what about a carborated? Any help would be really appreciated...and um...how difficult is it to get a '98 Maxima and/or a Mustang LX hatchback into the 11's? I'm guessing it's alot easier to get the Mustang down into a good quarter time...

what should I look for, in essence, under the hoods of either, to know if they have some serious cash under there, and...if they are just spraying, how hard would it be for my sbc350 (with several mods to the motor) to waste them?

JB...

grr...I really want to wax these guys...they're junkies, and I really don't like 'em...I'd really like to take their cash, but if they're betting I'm guessing they're pretty confident about what's riding under the hood...

If someone wants to hide it bad enough....you wont find it :)

Run nitrous to beat nitrous...you only need to press the button if you need it :D

Guest Your Car is Slow

I skimmed some of your first post :)

What year mustang? also a 98? and a 4cy at that?

Id say it would take miracles of engineering (read a whole LOT of work) to get either of those cars in the 11s :)

now if its an older mustang those things can be made fast quite easy.

However one thing to keep in mind. ET means absolutely SQUAT on the street. all it shows is how well you can hook/launch. Id be more concerned with their MPH if I were you.

a car running 11.50@110mph is impressive...but will lose very very badly on the street to a car running 12.0@120mph :)

doesn't NOx Have to be plumbed in somewhere? Look for unnecessary plumbing. Of course, like the man said, if they're trying to hide it... They could probably plumb it downstream somewhere and just put stray wires all over the place to hide it. 11 second maxima? I'll believe it when I see it. They must be pretty confident to run a known V8 in a mid 2000 lbs car.

Yeah, I'd love to see the look on his face as I screamed ahead of him, never to see my front flares again...

lol

I could've sworn a '98 Maxima made about 245 hp? That right? Is that to the wheels or from the crank?

Thanks,

JB

I was thinking of mounting a fogger on the underside end tank of my IC, which would make it virtually invisible.

Leaded race gas does leave a white residue on the tailpipe, my car is living proof since I always have some in the tank.

I would be looking for a fuel T somewhere to sent the fuel to the solenoid. That would be the easiest tip off to find if you ask me. Braided stainless lines are also a tip off, but they can be covered with that flex loom stuff.

I have fooled people into thinking my ZX had NOS since the turbo hits so hard, and it gets silly sideways with regular tires.

on a carb v8 its very easy, you will see either a spacer plate under the carb with lines to it or you will see a bunch of fitting tapped to the manifold, if you see lines tapped into the manifold, BACK OFF, the guy is running a BIG BIG SHOT.

also, some guys hide the solenoids in a stock v8 air cleaner to further throw you off, just keep looking for the lines, usually goldish in color.

on fi motors, look for the lines near the throttle body, cheap kits usually plumbed right into the tb, and pretty easy to find, and the more expensive kits will be either plumbed into the intake with each runner, or in the fuel injectors (NOSsle) if he has the runner intake nitrous, dont do it

ive seen newer maximas go low 14s at the track, with a good shot i can see a low 13 real easy, maybe a high 12, get some juice and lay it on em, youll win.

I don't mean anything by it, just NOx is oxides of nitrogen produced by lack of an EGR. I've also seen folks identify it with NO2, which is nitrogen dioxide. The chemical formula for nitrous oxide is N2O.

Don't worry about the bottle. I ran a modded 5.0 on 125 shot with my 240Z sbc and still pulled him by 3 cars to 115. And if need be I will spray it too :D
