Breakfast

Even though you guys are not the big culinary experts, I think you will appreciate this omelette. I made for myself this morning.

It's a 3 egg omelette with a touch of milk and a dash of hot chilisauce added, blend. For the filling, I sauted some mushrooms (the kind that come presliced form the store), to this I added a grabful of shredded cheddar and a good chunk of Feta cheese that I broke up in little pieces. Make sure you allow the filling to heat up inside the omelette before digging in.

Topping it off I used some of my wifes homemade fresh (uncooked) salsa.

This was really a landmark omelette, homemade or restaurant. Best I ever made, or I would not be telling you about it.

I like a man who can cook a good breakfast. I usually start the day with 2 scrambled eggs smothered in sharp cheddar, a hash brown, corned beef hash, and a peice of toast.

Im thinking today is National Best Breakfast Day, because this morning's breakfast was the best ive ever had.

I like my omelette with the folowing,

five XXL eggs

minced garlic, yellow onion and green bells (maybe roasted bells if im feeling sassy)

fresh sliced mushrooms (the mushroom will loose flavor the longer its been sitting sliced)

lost of fresh grind pepper and little salt

and some HOT big n chunky salsa

yummy yumm yumm.

being a professional in the food industry, I rarely cook for myself. but when I do you best watch out!

you guys ever cook ports? I love those things, with a little basil EVOO with some coffee extract! damn im getting hungry.

Thure....I use a very similar recipe, but I don't care for the Feta cheese. Instead I use swiss (love the flavor and texture), and a little brochutto ham (hope I didn't butcher the spelling too bad), it's has a nice salty flavor, so I don't add any more seasonings. I also prefer fresh mushrooms, and some very thinly sliced tomatoes (on the top of the omelette after it's cooked so the tomatoes don't get hot). Also I don't add milk to the eggs...about 1/2 a teaspoon of condensed milk, and one extra egg white.

Hmmmm....I guess our recipes are completely different!!

Yummmm.....me hungry now!!

Oatmeal with a touch of brown sugar everyday. Made the same way my Grandma made it for me many years ago. Now I find out this may be the reason my cholestorol (sp?) is so low. The upside to eating oatmeal, is it keeps you full untill lunch, no need for a snack break.

You guys are making me hungry. I had no idea there were so many omelette officianado's on here. I wish I had time for a nice omelette on the weekday, although if I did I'd probably have one everyday and that wouldn't be ideal for controlling cholesterol. I do have them on the weekends though and they usually consist of the following:

3 eggs, dash of milk, salt & pepper

satueed mushrooms, cubed ham, onions and garlic

topped with bacon, avocado and swiss cheese with a little salsa and "tampico hot sauce" on the side.

Geez that sounds good, I just might have to make that for dinner tonight. :D

My weekday daily morning routine isn't nearly as elaborate and consists of a swiss style yogurt with granola on top and a banana, usually supplemented with a small glass of OJ. When I get to work, I have my one and only cup of coffee which I make myself with those gloriously oily beans from Peets.

Oddly enough, since adopting this weekday routine I have lost weight (10lbs in 3 months), even though I wasn't even eating any breakfast when I was heavier. It must have something to do with metabolism and the fact that by eating more often, but in lesser quantity allows your body to burn fuel more efficiently or something like that. I do know for sure that I feel much more healthy, have a lot more energy and can't eat nearly as much in one sitting as I used to. All good things I think.

You are eating mostly protein & fat with very little carbs/sugars---thats the way to lose weight IMO. Good for you sticking to that!

My wife made a great brunch for me on Father's Day, a "full-monte fryup" as per Jamie Oliver: smoked bacon, whole fried portobello mushroom, scambled eggs, fried bockwurst, roasted tomato, coffee. Mmmmmm good! The only thing I added was an English muffin, which did me no good in losing any fat, otherwise it was a perfect meal.

What the heck are you talking about, Sparky? Did you have happy fingers, or are you just yanking my chain? Or are you talking about something about which I know nothing? (a distinct possibility)

The last time I cooked a port, I had to have my valves lapped!

RPMS the mans talking about portabella mushrooms, and they are the bomb. I usually baste them with some vinegar and oil add some seasonings and grill them. They actually make a good fake burger, sorry I guess I eat some strange stuff. Oh and Dave Karey if thats your usual breakfast I thought I would just say your arteries hate you. But man that does sound good. Why have you guys gotta be talking about food like this, now Ive gotta go eat.

Yeah, it's my favorite too. :D

DavyZ,

Unfortunately, I don't eat the omelette everyday. This is what I have on the occasional lazy Sunday morning. My weight loss is really due to a caloric reduction in my everyday diet, combined with more frequent but smaller meals and exercise. My morning breakfast of yogurt and granola, a cup of soup for lunch, fruit for midday snack and finally a simple dinner.

I'm not a small guy, but I'm not huge either. At 5'11 and 205lbs, I was feeling a bit overweight and lethargic and decided to try and shed a few pounds. As of today, (8 weeks to my wedding and counting and another incentive for the weight loss) I'm down to 195 and should hit 190 by the wedding. Ideal for me would be ~180-185. On top of all this, even though it seems like I'm eating like a pigeon I feel great and have much more energy than before. On top of all that, eating like this is actually cheaper since soup is only $2 while a sandwhich is almost $5. Go figure.
