auxilary
Waste of a good motor. Kind of like putting an SBC into a 240z, right? For reference how stock motor sits

gramercyjam
Waste of a good motor. Kind of like putting an SBC into a 240z, right? Not at all. The Z is a distinctive car with classic styling. For me, the Mazda has no appeal.
auxilary
true, but you know what they say about opinions, right ? cuz to someone else, a Z is just a cheap ferrari/jag knock off without the traditional heritage
Guest Cusp
I think someday the Miata will be remembered for its autocross legacy (hate to say legacy, but they're popular and sucessful) ... BUT...It'll always be a chick car to me. Besides, Mazda didn't exactly forge new ground, the Miata has done nothing first, nor best. The Miata wouldn't exist if Nissan hadn't made the 240Z. auxilary
i fail to see how miata exists here because of the 240z that was released 20 years prior to miata first showing up in the states? if anything, miata could be related to the 1600/2000 roadster, or more along the lines of an MG or triumph. Guest Cusp
I'll rephrase my point: Nissan was the first Japanese carmaker to try thier hand at making an affordable performance vehicle designed specifically to appeal to the American market. If Nissan didn't do it, I'm sure another manufacturer would have eventually. But it's plain to see how they pushed the envelope for Japanese automakers, which up till that point made mostly just econobox commuters. And you can bet the other manufacturers were watching, then COPYING Nissans model for success, simply because it worked. Look at the Toyota Celica, or the Mazda RX series. they both owe thier success to the Z, each debuting just a few years after the 240Z, and each very similar. SpeedRacer
Actually, I think you will find that most trade rags credit Colin Chapman and his great little Lotus Elan http://www.96trees.com/lotus/lotuselan.html as the inspiration for the Mazda Miata. Dp351zcar
If I remember correctly Toyota made a car before the Z came out that was cool. It was along the same lines as a Z but I don't remember what it was called M1 comes to mind but I think that is a BMW. Don
