Miles
While at freeway speed today I noticed that my stock 240Z was vibrating. I could feel the vibration through my seat and through the shifter. The vibration seems to go away when coasting with the clutch in. I feel the vibration just sitting with the car running at different RPMs. The engine runs really good and I recently just installed a set of rebuilt SU carbs from Ztherapy. Any ideas or things I should check for? Thanks Miles
datsunlover
Could be something to do with the clutch disk.. My 280zx did that and I was told by a transmition guy it could be the disk is off balance for some reason.. (?) or maybe a drive shaft/u-joint issue. anyone else? fl327
motor mount trans mount loose bolts in either loose trans x member loose bellhousing to engine bolts with engine off, push in clutch, if the whole thing moves, bellhousing turn it on, rev engine, watch movement of engine, if it gets a little floppy, there you go. jack up the car, and take a look at trans mount and everything else, i think its trans mount myself, or loose bolts. Miles
Thanks for the checklist. I'll get under the car this weekend and go through the list. Miles
Guest 240hybrid
I would check the harmonic balancer too. I had the balancer come apart on me and one of the pullies where jumping around. The vibration could be felt in the shifter, but not as much with the clutch dissengaged and coasting. It's always good to check just in case. Miles
Chase The shifter does vibrate less whent the clutch is in. Any way to check the vibration damper or just replace it? Thanks Miles
Guest 240hybrid
You'll be able to see the pulley jumping around if its failed. I could move the pulley by hand also while the motor was off also. Chase
