Guest 240hybrid
Great way to introduce yourself. Welcome to the board. I like that black and white with the rear of the Z way up in the air being worked on. Nice stuff. Chase
Zsane
Thanks for the warm welcome all! I have been reading post here for some time, and have been a fan of the YZ280 kit for awhile. I have an early 71' 240z (VIN# HLS3008539) fairly clean, no rust, a few small dings, I don't think I should chop it up any, and I need to unload some other projects before I can really justify picking up another for body mods. Just trying to get a plan going for the future! Any opinions about cutting up my car? Chris
JMortensen
I'm not going to hesitate to cut up my Z, #4396. I used to feel the same way as you, but there are so many early Z's out there that I just don't see them as that special for low VIN's anymore. Now, my friend just sold #476, and that one I wouldn't cut up, but it was built in '69 and was all #'s matching, 60K miles, etc. Jon

Guest Z-rific
I'm not the purist that many people are. Hell, I might even cut up a Jaguar E-type to get some flares and meats to make it look lke the road racing Jags of the day. As long as there are thousands of examples of original models running around, I'd be okay to Sawzall away. Besides, one day, a purist could take whatever butchering you've done and reverse it. It may take a ton of $$, but it can be done. Besides, with the Z, all your really messing up is the rear quarters, The whole front clip can be purchased new, leaving you some welding to get the rear quarters back to stock. Z8
Thanks for the pic's, I have seen the Morten car race at mid-ohio and was able to get to pic's up close in the paddock and talk with the current owner, it was pretty cool. I have #4669 and hesitated about cutting it up, but even in the early days of the Z that's one of the things that people did right away was start modifying. Mine is no where near stock-no going back! BillZ260
welcome Zsane, good pics, I love looking at all the different race car paint shcemes. Personally my fave so far is the BRE red white and blue. 240hybrid -- that black and white photo is of the 1975 24 hrs @ Lemans team in a 240z. Story goes they had lots of rear end troubles that day. The car and one of the drivers both dnf'd. It kind spooked me for a while, but the next year the #73 car, 260, with the mostly same team did alright

It kind spooked me for a while' date=' but the next year the #73 car, 260, with the mostly same team did alright[/quote'] Hi Bill, Actually, you have that the wrong way around. It was actually the SAME car in both '75 & '76 ( an ex-SCCN Nissan works team 240ZR, but wearing the registration plate of an ex-works Rally car - which seems to have been a little bit of a 'cheat' by the entrants ). They had diff trouble in '75 but they DID finish, and made it onto the final results listings. The same car was modified and entered again the following year with a listing as a "260Z" although it was STILL the same 240ZR. They were doing well until the early hours of Sunday morning. Andre Haller ( the owner of the car ) took the car out immediately after a pit stop and crashed at high speed on the Mulsanne Straight. The car vaulted the barriers and went into the trees - catching fire as it came to rest. Sadly, Haller was killed and the car was a total loss too. Reports from eye-witnesses said that a wheel came off before Haller crashed. Some of us over here in Europe have been researching the Works cars, and I personally have a deep interest in the SCCN "Works" cars and the Works 240 and 260Z rally cars. Hope you don't mind me putting the story straight. Alan T.
