Guest 240zxt
Does anyone have any info on the JDM "05L" head from the L20ET in the older skylines? I was wonding if it would have any advantages for my L28ET setup. Does anyone have some basic info on it? Thanks Michael
Tony D
Skip it! The valves are much smaller than L28ET, and the combustion chamber is sized for similar CR as the L28, but for a 2-litre engine. If you have one of these heads, or access to one, e-mail me off-list. I am actually building an L20ET for a project, and would welcome a proper head for comparison rather than trying to adapt an E31 which is the closest I can think of for L20 Turbo application. Better yet, I really whould try and find a complete late-model L20ET and go from there, rather than rebuilding an L20A for turbo application. kalium99
They were a pretty weak engine, making no more power than a standard L28. If you have access to L28ET gear, I would stick with it. the L20ET engine was same as any of the L6 engines AFAIK. Except it had a very small bore... Guest j_string
Is there something you can't find on ebay!
Tony D
Hey, thanks for the link, man! It's bettern' a poke in the eye with a stick. Check out those itty-bitty intake ports. For the price, I'll not complain. Hopefully this thing will have more combustion chamber volume than the E30 head currently on my L20A. I would like to build the L20 Turbo with a flat top, or semi-dished piston top if possible. Using the L24 head, I was looking at pop-tops for even 8:1 compression with those dinky bores----though the ports probably wouldn't have needed any port work! LOL I'll bid sometime tomorrow or Friday morning before I take off for Lake Havasu with the Z-Club for the weekend.
240Z Turbo
I have one of these heads. The combustion chambers are ideal shape for performance with the large squish area. Minimal reshaping is required. However, the intake ports aren't big enough to put my into. I paid $75 for mine while in New Zealand. They had all the heads we could not get, E30, N33, O5L, etc. TonyD, bet I can outbid you on the head!
slownrusty
Wow...can I can go to Lake Havasu as well??? No bids on the head yet, still sitting at a mighty buck. Yasin
george.bryant
So, anyone else know much about the 05L? I have a spare one for my L20et, i'm working it a bit at the moment. Any suggestions?
Yokohama
I think the 05L was used on the HR30 Skyline Turbo. ------------ Well, other than standard stuff, no. I have many L20A parts and heads (Y70, E31, 05L). I don't even know if you could realy do anything like enlarge that valves, as the bore is so small now (as you know it's so small that they notched the block to clear the valves). Maybe have the head extrude honed? You know, the Y70 and 05L look to be the same as far as chamber and ports, huh... (the Y70 is a non-turbo head and came with the L20A fitted to things like the Cedric and Gloria if I am correct)
Yokohama
That was partly an FYI for those not in the know.
