Guest Ricter
I searched throught the various tire size threads, but didn't see anything concrete to answer my question... so I'm hoping that someone with the same setup as me will chime in... Anyway. I have a 1977 280Z, I just purchased a Tokico suspension set which includes new shocks, and 1" lowering springs. I also purchased a set of Modern-Motorsports wheel adapters, and a set of 16"x7" Rota Slipstreams (40mm offset). My question concerns front tire fitment with this setup. I want to run 225/50/16 Kumho MX's all the way around, but will this fit the front without rubbing? I've seen people running 225/45/17's and these should be roughly the same width. Has anyone run this size tire with this setup or something similar. PS: I've checked all the tire size comparision charts on various sites. I'm looking for a real world answer from experience if possible. Thanks, Ricter
BillZ260
I am running 215's all around and i am pretty sure there is another 1/5" on either side clearence w/ no problems. I have the same suspension set up but not sure about my wheel offset. I too am running spacers. The car is sans motor right now so i could be off, but I am sure you will be ok. They should be almost exactly the same WIDTH, will be about 11mm taller per side or 22 mm taller total, so almost an inch taller.
Phantom
I am currently running 225/50-16's on 16x7 rims with 0 offset on all four corners. The car, however is not lowered. With what I have seen with my suspension members and fender wells you should be able to run those tires and wheels with the lowered suspension with a 25-30mm spacer. Split the difference at a 27-28mm and they should fit right in.
iaconsultants
Well sorry to say if you lower a car and run 225/45/17's, then the tires will rub in both the front and the back. It will catch in the back on the inner lip at the top of the wheel wheel. It will rub in two places on the front fenders. the biggest rub will be in a turn while hitting a bump. It will rub near the front edge of your fender. Sorry but I know that will happen with 225/45/17's on a 78 280Z. Hope this helps. Guest Ricter
Hmmm, I wasn't expecting to hear that... If that's case what size tires should I safely be running with this setup? Thanks, Ricter
fl327
I think they will fit if you are going to lower 1". I lowered my car one inch and run 205/60/15 all around and still have a significant wheel gap there. A 280z lowered 1" is roughly as low or tall as a 240z stock ride height. Clifton
I run 17x7's, 38mm offset with 225 45's kumhos. Front has a 1.75", rear 1.5" spacer. The rear barely rubbed the fender lip, had to trim it. The fronts rub the front lower fender by the turn signals if turned just right. I also went as wide as I could possibly go with the spacer to give the wheels the flush look. Your 40mm wheels probably wouldn't rub with my spacers and I know MM's spacers are narrower than mine so you should be fine.
Guest Ricter
Just an update.... I got 225/50/16's they fit all the way around, no rubbing. there's about 1/8th of an inch between the sidewall and the strut in the front, but no rubbing lock to lock... so it's good.
