aviatorx
no offense - but none of those manufacturing sites export back into the USA. This isn't outsourcing.....it's global business. Now if those products were to come back to the domestic market at prices that undercut N.A. suppliers due to a foreign labor cost advantage, you'd have a leg to stand on. What Bush has done is given tax credit to companies that have exported manufacturing jobs offshore and then import the manufactured goods into the US - BIG difference. BillZ260
Either way, the Heinz affiliates are a non issue...
JMortensen
I agree Bill. Anyone else starting to get a little irritated when people point out a successful business as a LIABILITY for a candidate? Should Cheney be ashamed of his prestigious job at Halliburton? Should Heinz-Kerry be ashamed of being the ketchup heiress? Should Edwards be ashamed of being a successful attorney? It was a big deal for Perot too, back in 92. Can't vote for him, he's a self-made millionaire! Seems to me someone with a little business sense might be helpful...
aviatorx
OK.....my mistake for falling into the trap I should have put "what Bush has reputedly done ..." in that last paragraph, but the point was made that the Heinz holdings have no relavence to the outsourcing comment. Pop N Wood
And I should say congrads to Kerry for marrying well and congrads to her for her husband dying. Jon Good one. Well, isn't marrying well a form of "self made"?
Dan Juday
Should Edwards be ashamed of being a successful attorney? That's a joke, right? I mean, uh... right?
JMortensen
No not a joke. If you want to bitch about ambulance chasers, that's one thing, but do you know what kind of attorney he was? I don't. He could have been a patent law attorney. Damn patent law attorneys!!! Always... investigating the feasability of a new patent... and... stuff. He could have been a business attorney. Damn business law attorneys!!! Always... writing up contracts so that... uh... businesses can deal... with... other businesses... I can keep going here. Let's not demonize ALL attorneys. Pop N Wood
Unfortunately he was (is) a personal injury lawyer. Well-spoken, photogenic and quick on his feet, Edwards made his fortune as a successful trial lawyer before entering politics. As a personal-injury attorney, he convinced juries to award multimillion verdicts. One of his most celebrated cases resulted in a record $25 million award to a 9-year-old North Carolina girl seriously injured by a defective swimming pool drain. Doh. BillZ260
One of his most celebrated cases resulted in a record $25 million award to a 9-year-old North Carolina girl seriously injured by a defective swimming pool drain. Doh could be right, but. I heard or read somewhere that the girl wasn't the first to be injured by the drain and repeated requests to have the design changed were fruitless. SO, when a big, or little, company refuses to make somethign safer for kids or the general public F'em. I think there should be discussions and recomendations before you try and sue them but if lots of people can be injured and they don't care because they just want to make more money? By all rights that is a good law suit. BUT, I don't really know the facts in THIS case. Just saying that just because he made some people rich by sueing big companies doens't mean he is an ambulance chaser, they could all be legit and he was just really good at picking out ones that made him and his clients a lot of $$. Pop N Wood
Wasn't passing judgment on Edwards one way or the other. Simply making light of Jon's faux pax.
JMortensen
All right, so he's an ambulance chaser. Knock him down one notch... ah crap, I guess I've run outta notches...
