gexgexgexgex Posted December 20, 2004 Share Posted December 20, 2004 i am putting some new toyota 4x4 s12-8 calipers on my 1973 240z and none of my local auto parts stores have any in for a 1980 4x4 truck so i can look and see if they are marked with s12-8(which are the ones i want) or s12w ones that i dont want. my question is what year did the s12-8 toyota 4x4 calipers come on. i really need the answer fast b/c i want them for xmas and its coming soon Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
240Z2NV Posted December 20, 2004 Share Posted December 20, 2004 I believe that most that have used the Toy 4x4 calipers use the S12W so that they can use vented rotors up front. You might have trouble getting the info that you request because it was an uncoventional choice. zcarnut Posted December 20, 2004 Share Posted December 20, 2004 Do not use the casting number to determine if the Toyota calipers will fit the solid rotor or the vented rotor. Go by the application or measure the actual rotor slot opening in the caliper. The 1986-88 4x4 calipers are also marked “S12-8" but they are designed to fit the wider, vented rotor. I know this because I have installed at least a dozen sets of these in Z cars. The concept that only the calipers with a “W” will fit a vented rotor is a myth.
